SIMULATION PRODUCT CATALOGUE 2015 FINMECCANICA SIMULATION PRODUCT CATALOGUE 2015 One of the emerging trends of the 21st century military is the way in which it has looked to enhance front line capability through the exploitation of latest technology. Such technology-enabled transformation strategies can only be realised however, by empowering those within the armed forces to develop the appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes to facilitate this change. The role of training as a force multiplier, enabling staff to expand their individual and collective potential and to maximise the impact of their equipment, becomes even more important when global defence budgets face increasing fiscal scrutiny. As a consequence, training programmes themselves must transform and, adopting the latest technology, be developed in such a way as to further reduce costs while continuing to contribute to efficiency and effectiveness of front line forces. How Finmeccanica can help Finmeccanica is a major player in Simulation & Training market. The training and simulation capability available from across the group combines an in-depth domain knowledge and training expertise with a long established commitment for developing and integrating innovative training technology, to ensure our armed forces receive cost effective and engaging through-life solutions that transform training and enhance operational capability. Major investments have been made in the training sector spanning on the three aspects: l Live l Virtual l Constructive 1 Live - In this sector the Finmeccanica Group is able to provide programmes devoted to training pilots for combat manoeuvrings. The related solutions are based on airborne pod for weapon simulations and communications for fighter aircraft and a on ground PC-based display and debriefing system that provides live monitoring and a complete debrief of air combat training missions. Virtual - The Finmeccanica Group offers a wide range of capability in the “Virtual” training sector. The Group provides generic and type-specific simulators that spearhead training for pilot and support crews of both fixed-wing rotary aircraft. Our solutions address a comprehensive set of operational and maintenance issues and range from desk-top Procedural Trainers to Full Flight Mission Simulators. The Group also offers virtual training solutions for unmanned systems as well as a virtual shooting range for small arms training to law enforcement personnel. Mission simulators are another field where Finmeccanica Companies are playing a leading role. In addition to the individual operator training supported by the above mentioned simulators, our mission simulators provide Command & Control Training for command teams, both for the Army and Navy, maritime vessel and air traffic simulators, as well as railway traffic management training in the civil field. Our virtual training systems encompass a variety number of training technologies developed by the Finmeccanica Companies in the areas of scenario generation, exercise management, sensor simulators, and 3D image generator. The Group is also applying emerging technologies, such as Virtual and Augmented Reality and a “serious games” approach to ensure we can deliver, enhanced, effective training for any specific situations. Constructive - Offering solutions for Concept, Development & Experimentation (CD&E), our capability addresses operational planning and defence support in accordance with the defence doctrine. We support national and international combined exercises (CAX) such as those run by NATO Centre Of Excellence by means of distributed simulation which federates the Simulation Labs of each Finmeccanica Company. 2 Our work in this sector also offers possible simulation solutions for satellite and shuttle operational activities. Finmeccanica simulation applications are also enhancing training in the increasingly important sectors of cyber security and medical and health sector to maximise organisation’s ability to respond to emergency situations. A Total Capability Offering The Finmeccanica Group is continually investing in innovation to develop and manage advanced modelling and simulation technologies to support training across the whole of a programme lifecycle. Our appreciation of the live, virtual and constructive training requirements ensures that Finmeccanica and its Operating Companies can deliver sustainable value to the front line, enabling armed forces to fully prepare for the increasingly complex and uncertain future of military operations. FINMECCANICA - DELIVERING EFFECTIVE TRAINING In order to identify which kind of platform can fit the described product, there is one or more picture showing the possible alternative of installation: Space Aircraft Helicopter Infantry and ground vehicle Ship and submarine 3 1. PILOT & OPERATOR TRAINING Product Name: ARTEMIS End User: Operator training Company: AgustaWestland AgustaWestland’s Adaptive Radar Trainer & Exportable Module for Integrated Systems (ARTEMIS) provides a cost-effective, flexible and effective simulated training environment for on board tactical radar operators, with a particular emphasis on Search & Rescue (SAR) operations. In order to provide an effective training, a realistic synthetic environment allows to represent a variety of computer generated forces, including threats and civil traffic. 25 Product Name: UAS TRAINING SOLUTIONS End User: Operator Training Company: Selex ES The domain knowledge and expertise gained from the Company’s delivery of the British Army’s WATCHKEEPER TUAV training solution enables Selex ES to offer a scalable and flexible training solution that can be adapted to match the training requirements of any specific system type, its unique operating procedures and concept of operations. The approach presents end-users with: • Highly realistic and immersive environments • Modular plug-in capability to accommodate the payloads demanded by a UAS’ specific configuration • Scalable virtual terrains and computer generated entities to accurately represent the operational landscape through the payload data links • The integration of physical equipment to mirror the system’s operations within a simulated environment • An Instructor interface which enables the testing, guidance and monitoring of student performance. Product Name: COUGAR AIRCREW TRAINING SYSTEM (CATS) End User: Pilot and Operator Training Company: Telespazio Telespazio has developed the COUGAR Aircrew Training System (CATS) to support pilot training. CATS is an integrated training system consisting of 24 hours of courseware and a simulator within a single application. It therefore combines learning with practising to maximise the training result. CATS perfectly supports initial, conversion as well as refresher training. During initial and conversion training the student works on all or pre-selected courseware lessons sequentially. Along the way, he will often be confronted with pre-configured situations in the simulator in order to practise what he has just learned. For refresher training the student will work with the simulator most of the time. If knowledge gaps are recognised, the respective courseware page can be accessed directly via the context sensitive help function. The simulator allows the students to practise operational procedures in “free-play” mode. This allows them to learn about each helicopter system and how they interact with each other. All essential systems have been modelled, including the flight management system, electronic flight instrument system, digital map system, autopilot and self-protection system. A number of faults can be injected into each system. This provides for procedural training in normal and abnormal conditions. The simulated helicopter “flies” within a realistic terrain model based on original elevation data that contains all airfields and radio navigation aids. The user can place different types of threats into a scenario to support realistic training of the self-protection system’s functionality. These features allow the student to fly a complete mission in the simulator from “pre-flight” to “engine shutdown”. 26 2.
