General Business
 The 3 month review about the cost of production and posting of newsletter has resulted in the recommendation of a $10.00
charge p.a. for those members who wish to receive hard copies. The charge will commence from July 1st 2016, and members
will find a space to ‘tick the box’ on the renewal form if they wish to take up the offer.
 Affiliated Societies Orchid of the year competition – about to close for 2015. Entries will be prepared and sent out for
Judging. Result will be announced at our AGM/August General Meeting.
There is now a powerpoint presentation about the Affiliated Societies competition on our website to assist those who need to
refresh the rules.
 21st AOC Conference and Show – NSW ‘Orchids in the Foothills’ – 18th to 22nd July 2018.
Last meeting we were pleased to announce that the venue for the 2018 AOC Conference and Show, hosted by OSNSW will
be held at the Windsor YMCA Stadium. Contract negotiations are now complete and our agreement signed off (currently with
YMCA General Manager for his signature). The inaugural meeting of the Primary committee is scheduled for 17th July.
Expression of Interest Form is circulating around societies. Please add your details to this list so that you will be updated on
all the conference news as it happens, or email Veronica who will add your details to the list.
Affiliated societies should start thinking about their participation at this event. We have added a page to our website
dedicated to the 2018 conference, and will eventually open a conference website. Watch out for new information as it
happens.

Guest Speaker
Ken Siew spoke about the Asia Pacific Orchid Conference (APOC) 2016 and showed members many great pictures of exhibits and
entries into the competition. In particular Ken mentioned the numerous cut flower entries, often displayed in hanging
arrangement rather than upright display.
Ken also spoke about the other areas of Thailand which he visited, and about the local flower market where hundreds of orchids
are available for sale for incredible prices ($2.00 for a flowering size Paph)
Thank you Ken, another great talk.

I don't trip over things, I do random gravity checks.
Old age is coming at a really bad time.
When I was a child I thought Nap Time was a punishment ... now, as a grown up, it just feels like a small vacation.
The biggest lie I tell myself is ... "I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it."
Lord grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change things I can and the friends to post
my bail when I finally snap.
I don't have grey hair. I have "wisdom highlights".
My people skills are just fine. It's my tolerance to idiots that needs work.
Teach your daughter how to shoot, because a restraining order is just a piece of paper.
If God wanted me to touch my toes, he would've put them on my knees.
The kids text me "plz" which is shorter than please. I text back "no" which is shorter than "yes".
I'm going to retire and live off of my savings. Not sure what I'll do that second week.
Even duct tape can't fix stupid ... but it can muffle the sound.
Why do I have to press one for English when you're just gonna transfer me to someone I can't
understand anyway?
Of course I talk to myself; sometimes I need expert advice.
At my age "Getting lucky" means walking into a room and remembering what I actually came in
there for.
Wouldn't it be great if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes; come out wrinkle-free
and three sizes smaller.
Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven't met yet.

Sale of Murray Coirrigan's Orchid Collection
The auction and sale of Murray Corrigan’s orchid collection will take place on Sunday 7th August 2016, at his home at 19
Allington Crescent, Elanora Heights, NSW. Unfortunately Murray has been unable to maintain his plant collection after suffering a
stroke, and is now in a nursing home at Narrabeen.
The auction (of 80 select plants – many specimen size) will start at 11.00 am, with viewing of the collection from 10.00 am. Most
of these have been grown in a cold glasshouse, with a number in the shadehouse or outside under cover. There are a lot of
Australian Dendrobium specimen plants that would make ideal garden subjects, as the tags are faded. All plants are to go on the
day. For further information, contact David Banks on 0412123036 or email david@hillsdistrictorchids.com
