Winter 2015 - Elevated Retirement Group
ELEVATED CONNECTION WINTER 2016 ELEVATED RETIREMENT GROUP’S QUARTERLY NEWSLET TER A MESSAGE FROM SEAN P. LEE, MSFS Hello from the cold, frozen tundra that is Utah in January! For those of you wishing for piles of snow last winter, you got your wish. Though we are not skiers, we’ve heard the resorts are at their best right now, which is good news for Utah’s tourism industry. Growing up in Wyoming prepared me for winters like this and I’m normally not phased by the cold and snow. But this year we are keeping a watchful eye on the weather forecast as we are in the finishing stages of building our new home. This is a first-time experience for my wife, Erika, and I and boy has it been an eventful one! After getting married, Erika and I bought our first home in Draper, Utah where we’ve grown our little family. Ten years and two kids later we decided it was time for a more kid-friendly house. We will be staying in Draper but moving closer to our kid’s school (walking distance) and to the office (shorter commute). And since we are building a home, we’ve been able to add a few little features that should make life with two kids a little easier day to day. I’m most excited for a flat driveway; Erika is looking forward to actually having a mudroom for backpacks, shoes and all those snowy boots, coats, snowsuits, scarves, gloves, hats.... We are hoping to be moved in by the first of February - fingers crossed! Aside from the pending move, our Christmas was another one for the memory books. Our daughter, Coraline (age 6) and son, Michael (age 3), are at such a magical age for this holiday. Our December was filled with gingerbread houses, trips to see the lights, Elf on the Shelf, letters to Santa and much more! As much fun as the holidays can be, it is nice to get back into our routine of school and work. We have many exciting things planned in 2016, both personally and at Elevated Retirement Group. We will continue to keep you informed throughout the year, but expect more client education opportunities, an exciting client appreciation event in the INSIDE: summer, and much more! Client Corner....pg 2 As always, thank you for your continued business, support and friendship. Here’s to 2016 and another fantastic year! Sincerely, Sean P. Recent trips include Hawaii, Palm Beach, Palm Springs, and some ski trips. But one recent trip stands out. After 20 hours of flying, Paul and Theone spent a little more than a month in South Africa. They flew into Johannesburg and spent a few days there before heading to Sun City to see wild animals including elephants, zebras, hippos, giraffes and lions. After enjoying the wildlife, Paul and Theone spent a week in Joburg where they both served LDS missions in the 1960’s. They enjoyed catching up with family and friends. After that, they took a 2,000 mile road trip to Capetown and along the coast, often stuffing themselves with delicious local seafood. Instead of continuing their trip up the coast, they traveled through the interior of South Africa back to Johannesburg. This was due to safety concerns as there remains considerable racial tension in parts of the country. Paul and Theone felt relatively safe in populated areas, but still carried protection (guns) with them throughout their trip. Upon returning to Johannesburg, they spent their last week visiting with friends and family - Theone is originally from Johannesburg. Paul is originally from Provo, Utah and spent most of his career in Real Estate Development. Now retired, he spends his time as a ski instructor at Snowbird Mountain Resort near Sandy, Utah and does some consulting work on the side for a home health organization. Theone enjoys spending time with their daughters and grandkids. Employee Spotlight: Catching Up with Cory Garcia With another year behind us, it’s always fun to look back and reflect on the highlights of the last year. My wife, Caiti, and I were able to spend a wonderful week in Cancun, Mexico last April. We considered it “the honeymoon we never had” since we never got to go on a honeymoon after our wedding. It was so fun and relaxing that I think I’ve convinced her that it should become an annual event, but we’ll see. Our daughter, Ava (age 7), started second grade and has been excelling in all aspects. She was one of only two second graders at her school to move on to the state division of the Utah PTA Reflections project. She has also started her fourth year of competitive dance. Last year her team won numerous awards in lyrical, jazz and hip-hop, including a High Point trophy at a competition in St. George, Utah. Our son, Jaxon, just celebrated his third birthday. He definitely keeps us our toes and is very much a typical three-year-old boy: rambunctious and loving all at the same time! Caiti has always called him a “Sour Patch Kid” because he’ll do something to make us angry, but then seconds later turn around and do something so sweet that you forget why you were mad in the first place. We’re going to have to keep a close eye on him, especially when he gets older. All in all, 2015 was a great year for us and we look forward to seeing what 2016 has in store for us! Industry Update: Social Security Solutions The Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015 included some big changes that could affect you. If you or your spouse were born before May 1, 1950, there are claiming options that are still available, but only until May 1, 2016 as you much reach age 66 BEFORE May 1, 2016 in order to use these claiming rules. Those born before January 1, 1954 will be able to take advantage of an “old” rule called “Filing a restricted application.” This rule allows a spouse who reaches full retirement age to choose whether to claim his/her own retirement benefit, or begin a spousal benefit while letting the retirement benefit grow. This is only possible at or after your full retirement age and will be phased out over the next few years. Listen To This! Sean Lee can now be found in your car, in your home, at your office...or any place with a radio. That’s right! Sean’s soothing voice is now delivering valuable retirement news and information over the airwaves via The Retirement Elevated Radio Show. *KSL 1160AM/102.7FM on Saturday evenings from 7-8pm *KSOP 104.3FM on Saturday mornings from 8-9am Sean discusses various topics important in retirement planning such as tax planning, investment planning, income planning and healthcare. For more information on his show, visit www.RetirementElevatedRadio.com. Congratulations! Katelyn Peterson (aka, “KP”) and her fiance, Brian, got married in November in Salt Lake City. Both from Utah, they had to fly across the country to North Carolina for a job in order to meet each other. They’ve been together for two and a half years. Though married life comes with a lot of exciting new things, KP just might be most excited about the (much) shorter commute to the office, moving from Centerville to Salt Lake City after getting married. Congratulations, Katelyn & Brian! Investment Advisory Services offered through Elevated Capital Advisors, LLC a Registered Investment Adviser.
