PreschoOl/Kindergarten VisuAls Instruction BoOklet Vacation Bible School 2014 Theme Poster The main purpose of this poster is for publicity. A few weeks before VBS, post it in a place in or around the classroom that will be seen by parents and children alike. This will help spark interest in this soon approaching summertime outreach. Preschool/ Kindergarten Signs A sign is provided for each group. Each sign is doubled so that once mounted on a dowel rod, it can be seen from the front and back. Use the signs for marching in to assembly or when the group is on the move. The signs can also be used for identifying the groups seating area or the classroom door. 1 Bulletin Board The Cross Canyon Trail – Ridin’ Strong with Jesus bulletin board is designed to provide an overview of the week’s adventures in an eye-catching way. It can be used in the classroom, hallway or even as a door decoration. Remember—always place at the child’s eye level, not yours. Get on your knees to assure it can be seen by those who will be in your classroom. To assemble, locate and cut out the pieces. Cover the background of your board with materials of your choosing. Refer to the diagram for piece placement. To give the board an extra 3-D effect, glue cut pieces of cardboard tubing behind the individual set pieces. Use a colorful or unique border around the edges of the board as a finishing touch. Door Decoration Show off your little cowpokes by adding their names and/or photos to your door by using the cowboy and cowgirl patterns provided. Just copy onto colored cardstock and arrange on the door as desired. Refer to the Preschool/Kindergarten Teacher for illustration and assembly instructions. Lots More. . . Next, open the bag and stuff it with wadded up paper to help it stand sturdy. When cutting out the hands (2-2–2-6), make sure to cut the slit as directed where the thumb joins the hand. Place hands in sequential order and insert the hands (thumbs only) into the slit in the side of the bag. Refer to the Preschool/Kindergarten Teacher for further instructions for this activity. Lesson 1 Ridin’ Ready Gideon Is Ready To Serve Judges 6:1-16, 36-40 Bible Account Visual: Fluffy Fleece Flip Chart—Locate the front, back and five scene pieces of the flip chart and cut out. Option: Laminate front and back covers before adding fleece. Glue cotton balls, white fleece material or quilt batting to the entire top surfaces of both the front and back cover pieces. Once dry, place the five scene pieces in sequential order between the two cover pieces. Punch two holes in the top and place metal rings or pipe cleaners through the holes to hold the flip chart together. Refer to the Preschool/Kindergarten Teacher for further instructions on the activity. Memory Verse Activity Visual: Branding Buckaroos (black and white pattern)—Locate and cut out the cowboy hat and brand patterns. To make cowboy hats for the group, trace the hat pattern onto the center portion of the plate along the inside rim. Cut and remove the remnant center scrap while leaving the circular rim of the plate intact. Fold the two sides of the plate (brim) inward to make remaining center of the plate (crown) pop forward. To make hat strings, punch a hole into the inner most section of each side of the brim and attach two 16" lengths of yarn. With a marker, design the hats by writing the Memory Verse (words only) on the crown of the hat as shown on the pattern making sure to leave enough space for the brand in the middle. Next, make a branding iron by tracing the cross brand pattern onto a clean, new sponge and cutting it out. Poke a small hole partway through the center of the brand with the scissors. Thread the end of a sturdy straw into the hole and glue it into place. Refer to the Preschool/Kindergarten Teacher for further instructions on the activity. Lesson Purpose—Lookin’ for Signs Pair of Binoculars Visual: Bible and praying hands silhouettes— Locate, copy and cut out the two silhouettes. Refer to Preschool/Kindergarten Teacher for assembly directions. Memory Verse Activity Visual: Pin the Heart on Josie Poster— Locate the poster and the Memory Verse heart pattern. Display the poster on a wall in the room at the children’s eye level. Use the heart pattern to make copies onto red cardstock or construction paper and cut out one for each child. Attach pieces of rolled tape or Sticky Tack to the backs of each heart. Refer to the Preschool/Kindergarten Teacher for how to apply this activity. Lesson 3 Ridin’ Faithful Nehemiah Builds the Wall Nehemiah 4:1-23; 6:1-9 Lesson 2 Ridin’ Obedient Ruth Follows God Ruth 1:14-17; 2:5-16; 3:10, 11; 4:13-17 Bible Account Visual: Stones Accordion Book Teaching Pictures (3-1–3-6)—Locate and cut out the two strips of teaching pictures. Bible Account Visual: Harvest Hands Teaching Pictures (2-1–2-6)—Locate and cut out the barley picture along with the five hand scenes. Glue the barley picture (2-1) to the front of a standard paper lunch sack. With the bag flattened, cut a fringe across the remaining top portion of the bag to Memory Verse Activity Visual: Writing on the Wall Puzzle—Locate and cut out the Memory Verse puzzle picture. To form a base for the picture, align the seven jumbo craft sticks side by side horizontally. With the edges even, place a piece of masking tape down both edges vertically to hold them in place. Turn the base over. Next, smear a thin layer of glue on the back of the picture and after centering it 3 correctly, place on top of the craft sticks base. Allow the puzzle to dry completely before attempting to separate the craft sticks with a craft knife or sharp scissors. Be careful not to cut the sticks. Finally, glue a small magnet on the back of each craft stick. Once dry, place the puzzle pieces in a snack-sized ziplock bag in preparation for class time. To make individual puzzles for the children to take home, use the Writing on the Wall Puzzle pattern located in this booklet. Copy one for each child onto cardstock and prepare the puzzle, minus the magnets, as instructed above. Place in individual ziplock bags and distribute at the conclusion of class. Lesson Purpose—The Witness Wheel Visual: The Witness Wheel and Spinner—Cut out the wheel and its spinner. Puncture a small hole in both pieces with a sharp object and insert a brad through and secure loosely. Securing the brad tightly will prevent the spinner from spinning freely. Glue a penny or another small weight to the end of the spinner to help it spin properly.
