in Danville, CA.
The Board Meeting will begin at 10:00 AM, and
the General Meeting will begin at 11:00 AM.
Directions: From Highway 680 (North or South),
take the Stone Valley Road exit East. Drive east
approximately 3 miles. Oak Hill Park will be on
the right side of the street, pass Oak Hill Park,
and park in the Monte Vista High School parking
lot.

On Sunday, July 8th, the Northern California Siberian Husky Club, Inc., held the very first AKC Open Show. An Open Show is a new event that clubs may offer, beginning on July 1, 2012. It is somewhat a cross between a Match and a Show, and it is intended to offer a good place for novices to try Conformation. It is a titling event, with dogs winning points toward a beginning conformation suffix title of CM (Certificate of Merit). This licensed local specialty club usually plans a summer sanctioned match, but decided instead to try this new AKC titling event. Their chosen date of July 8th, placed them first on the calendar for an Open Show. Before beginning the competition, the Club members conducted a true "hands‐on" conformation orientation, by inviting all participants into the ring for handling practice and one‐on‐one coaching. Leads and collars were checked for correct size and usability, and where needed, replacements were fitted and loaned. Participants were told and shown what would be expected of them in the ring, and all dogs and handlers were allowed to practice. The goal was to make new exhibitors feel more at ease in the conformation ring. Local Boxer breeder‐judge, Roberta (Bert) Rettick judged the conformation entry, which was large enough to have earned 4‐point majors in both sexes had this been a regular point show, including an Open Bitch class of 10! Judge Rettick continued the welcome and encouragement, as she made sure no exhibitor felt rushed and even offered occasional handling tips. Judge Rettick awarded Certificate of Merit points to the winners of the very first AKC Open Show. Her Best of Breed choice was the Open Bitch Trailside's Hollywood Glamour, co‐bred and handled by former Junior Jessica Tamagni; and Best of Opposite went to novice owner‐handler Jacqueline Haber and her 4‐6 Puppy Dog, Hidden Treasure's Spirit of Gold. In addition to the Open Show competition, the Club wanted to encourage interest in all AKC events for registered Siberians, as well as those in the rescue community ‐‐ dogs eligible for AKC's PAL or Canine Partners programs. The Club set up two practice areas; one with a short Rally course, and the other with some Agility equipment. Club members were available to assist handlers and dogs as they tried these two activities, as well as to provide information about AKC Companion Events and listing services. Event Secretary Kelly Collins performed another FIRST for both the Club and AKC, by being the first person to report Open Show Results online to AKC through the piloted Results Reporting feature of AKC's Online Event Management System. The NCSHC, Inc., is proud to report that participants and Club members, alike, had a wonderful day with their dogs at this new AKC Event. It was obvious from the interest and level of participation that the event was a success! Thanks to all, both human and canine, who joined NCSHC in making history at AKC's First Open Show!

Ch. Melrose And Noatak's Timrjan
I met Timber at the 2010 National Specialty and it was love at first sight. Timber's former owner, Judy Rogers, had
tragically passed away and her breeders, Jody and Leslie Carpenter, had agreed to let her come live in California. Here
was this top of standard, happy go lucky, full of life girl. How could I not fall in love. Timber's second show weekend in
California she picked up a 4 pt major at the Turkey Circuit in October. In January Timber delivered a litter of 7 puppies.
After working hard to get her coat back in we headed down to So. California for the very tough Mission Circuit. Although not
fully back in coat, Timber picked up a 5 pt major, followed by a major reserve, losing the major to her niece. The great
thing was that Jody and Leslie were there to see her win her major. Timber had 4 pts when she came to me so that left
her needing only 2 pts to finish. In July Timber took back to back wins to finish her championship. Timber has since gone
on to complete her grand championship. Timber is a pleasure to show, loves the ring, and a pleasure to live with. Except
that she is a very accomplished escape artist. I cannot thank Jody and Leslie enough for allowing Timber to become a part
of my life.
