Carrie Underwood Childhood Carrie Underwood was born on March 10, 1983 to Stephen and Carole Underwood. Carrie had two older sisters, Shanna and Stephanie. She was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Carrie grew up on a farm in a small town, Checotah, with a population of only 3500. "I had a very happy childhood full of the wonderful simple things that children love to do," Underwood said on her website. "Growing up in the country, I enjoyed things like playing on dirt roads, climbing trees, catching little woodland creatures and, of course, singing.” Carrie Underwood always knew she wanted to be a singer. She starred in many musicals in her school from third to fifth grade. When Carrie was older, she asked her mom to take her to a local talent show where she competed, and usually placed but didn’t win. When Carrie was in high school, she focused on her education and graduated second in her class on May 2001.She still performed at schools, fairs, and church events. Carrie was a busy person. C arrie’s T eenage and A dult Y ears After graduating high school, Carrie went to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. When Carrie was there she studied broadcast journalism, putting aside her dream of becoming a singer. Carrie received a recording contract after winning American Idol. When Carrie won the fourth season of American Idol she rose to fame. She also got a lot of commercial endorsements. When Carrie grew up she married a hockey player, Mike Fisher. She was named Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year two years in a row. In 2005, Carrie released her first album, Some Hearts. She also released her next album in 2007 and was named Carnival Ride. Carrie’s second album was said to be stronger than her first.
