Malem Enuresis Alarms
• Malem Enuresis Alarms are designed to maximise success in the treatment of bedwetting and provide a safe, efficient, economical and permanent cure for
bedwetting in contrast to the short term relief, if that, offered by very expensive and potentially dangerous drugs.
• Bedwetting is neither an illness nor a disease. We all start life as bedwetters and we learn to become dry. Becoming dry is a skill that we acquire in the same way we
learn to talk, walk, ride a bicycle or swim. Children acquire these skills at different times and we would expect a child to start becoming dry after the age of 18
months. By the age of 5 years about 90% of children are dry, by the age of 10 years about 95% are dry and by the age of 13 years about 98% of children are naturally
dry. It is clear that a bedwetting child has about a 15% chance per year of becoming dry naturally.
• The old phrase, “Do not worry, they will grow out of it” is nearly true, as about 2% remain wetting into adulthood. However not knowing when your child is going to
be dry is the major problem for the child and the family. Bedwetting must be taken seriously as neglecting its treatment will sooner or later lead to friction within
the family and deteriorating school achievements.
• Bedwetting alarms alert the brain to the fact that the body is doing an act which is unacceptable. Making the conscious brain aware of the sensation of passing urine in bed
will develop and establish the natural control of the brain over the bladder, so that the child will eventually acheive the normal dry state by sleeping throughout the night
without wetting or needing to empty the bladder.
• Enuresis Alarms achieve permanent dryness by speeding the natural process and compressing the unknown number of years of wetting into a maximum of three
months.
• Success is guaranteed by adhering to the Malem Golden Rules:
1. The child is 100% motivated and wants to be dry.
2. The child understands that waking up to the alarm as soon as it sounds is
the treatment.
3. Parents must initially help the child to wake up when they hear the alarm
as all children, including the dry ones, sleep soundly & deeply when at home.
4. The child should drink as much as he/she likes.
5. Parents should not ‘lift’ the child to empty the bladder whist the child is asleep.
6. No nappies or pull-ups.
7. Parents must praise and support the child.
Malem Bedwetting Alarms are ergonomically designed, smart, colourful, comfortable, compact (40 x 39 x 19 mm) and ultra light (24g including batteries). All have
loud sounds or strong vibrations specially selected for their effectiveness at waking children. Malem Alarms are well constructed, reliable, durable, glow when
sounding or vibrating, have a choice of safety pin and a dependable clip. All models fit a choice of sensors. The Standard Sensor (BT) is easy to clean, lockable,
externally detachable, replaceable, interchangable, long lasting and gold plated with clip to anchor in position. The Easy Clip© Sensor (EC) clips to the outside of any
close fitting underwear. The Bed-Mat (BM) fits between the cotton sheets over the mattress. Batteries are externally accessible and easily replaceable.
The alarm is comfortably, and discreetly worn on the nightwear top close to the collarbone. The rustproof, moisture-sensitive Standard Sensor is placed and anchored
inside an absorbent disposable pad worn inside the underwear. Also it can be placed between two pairs of close fittings pants or placed in the Y-front pant fold. When
urination commences the sensor is moistened, the alarm is triggered and a stimulus is activated. This can be in the form of a loud choice of sounds, vibration or light.
Repetitive awakening by the alarm as soon as urination commences will gradually train the brain to exert automatic control over the bladder. Eventually, the bedwetter
will either wake up before urination or sleep throughout the night without needing to empty the bladder. This form of treatment has proved to be the safest, most
reliable and economical way of permanently curing bedwetting with over 90% success within a few weeks and unlike drugs has no side effects.
SPECIAL FEATURES
1. The alarm has no on/off switch so that the user cannot turn it off or forget to
turn it on before going to sleep. Current drain on the batteries is negligible
except when the alarm is sounding.
2. To maintain reliability and avoid unintentional disconnection, the sensor is
positively locked into the alarm. However, it can be unlocked and detached
for cleaning or replacement.
3. The alarm is triggered as soon as urination starts. Actual wetting of the bed
can be avoided.
4. Can be used repeatedly during the same night without parental help.
5. Any absorbent pad can be used.
6. Because of the compact nature of the alarm, it can be used anywhere even
when on holiday or visiting friends and relatives.
7. It can also be discreetly worn during the day with normal clothing for people
with special needs for toilet and bladder training.
8. The alarm uses standard alkaline button batteries (L1154 or equivalent, do not
use hearing aid batteries). The batteries are externally accessible. Under
normal use the batteries should last the duration of the treatment.
(A continuous alarm will drain the batteries within 60 minutes).
9. Malem alarm have set the standard for safety. Type BF British Department of
Health H R/E 1004/03 Issue ll). Manufacturer Registration Number R0322/ME.

regime; by tabulating the child/patient urination times, a bladder activity pattern
can be observed and the need for a bed-pan or a toilet anticipated. This can result
in a significant reduction in management and disposable nappy cost as well as an
improvement in child/patient moral.

Malem Enuresis Alarm (MO3 S3); Sound No.3
Malem Eight (8) Tone Enuresis Alarm (8T) Yellow or Camoflage

Malem Personal Continence Trainer (PCT) Dark Green
The device is a VIBRATING version of the alarm. The silent vibration
provides complete privacy at any time, day or night. Useful for children
with hearing difficulties, children sleeping in a dormitory, or in
situations when it is impractical to use the audible alarm.
Malem Visual Continence Alarm (VCA) Green
This light emitting alarm can be used to indicate urination so that the
child/patient is changed by the carer or used to develop a toileting
10.Value for money: Each Malem Alarm treats and cures, on average three
children per year. Please compare with the high cost, low benefit of drugs.
