Windows 7 was released to manufacturing on July 22, 2009. It was made available to the public on October 22, 2009. Windows 7 is preceded by Windows Vista, and succeeded by Windows 8. M. Udin Harun Al Rasyid 3 Windows 7 Editions Six editions of Windows 7 are available, the first three of which below are the only ones available for sale directly to the consumer: Windows 7 Ultimate Windows 7 Professional Windows 7 Home Premium Windows 7 Enterprise Windows 7 Starter Windows 7 Home Basic Windows 7 Enterprise is designed for large organizations. Windows 7 Starter is only available for preinstallation by computer makers, usually on small form factor or lower end computers. Windows 7 Home Basic is only available in some developing countries. M. Udin Harun Al Rasyid 4 Windows 7 Home Premium is also available in a "family pack" that allows installation onto up to three separate computers. Most Windows 7 licenses allow installation onto only one device. Except for Windows 7 Starter, all versions of Windows 7 are available in either 32-bit or 64-bit versions. M. Udin Harun Al Rasyid 5 An operating system allows your computer to manage software and perform essential tasks. It is also a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that allows you to visually interact with your computer’s functions in a logical, fun and easy way. For example, in Windows 7 you can view two windows side by side by using the Aero Snap feature. This feature automatically sizes or snaps two windows to fit together on the screen thus allowing you the convenience of viewing them next to each other. M. Udin Harun Al Rasyid 6 32-bit and 64-bit In the personal computing world, 32-bit and 64-bit refer to the type of central processing unit, operating system, driver, software program, etc. that utilizes that particular architecture. 32-bit hardware and software is often referred to as x86 or x86-32. 64-bit hardware and software is often referred to as x64 or x86-64. 32-bit systems utilize data in 32-bit pieces while 64-bit systems utilize data in 64-bit pieces. In general, the more data that can be processed at once, the faster the system can operate. There are several other advantages to a 64-bit system as well, most practically the ability to use significantly greater amounts of physical memory. M. Udin Harun Al Rasyid 7 Most new processors today are based on the 64-bit architecture and support 64-bit operating systems. These processors are also fully compatible with 32-bit operating systems. Most editions of Windows 7 and Windows Vista are available in 64bit format. Only Windows XP Professional is available in 64-bit. All editions of Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP are also available in 32-bit. M. Udin Harun Al Rasyid 8 Windows 7 Minimum Requirements Windows 7 requires the following hardware, at a minimum: CPU: 1 GHz RAM: 1 GB (2 GB for 64-bit versions) Hard Drive: 16 GB free space (20 GB free for 64-bit versions) Your graphics card needs to support DirectX 9 if you plan to utilize Aero. if you intend on installing Window 7 using DVD media, your optical drive will need to support DVD discs.
