Find out the answer campkesem.org/stonybrook Recent Events WINTER 2014 Kesem Week (October 13th - 17th) Kesem Week is an annual, week-long Camp Kesem Stony Brook tradition. Each year our dedicated counselors and volunteers raise awareness and spread our mission. This year included a variety of activities and programs on campus to generate interest in our organization and raise awareness of the often-overlooked population we serve, children affected by a parent's cancer. Events such as our Kesem Kissing Booth, Free Hug Friday and Kesem Kraft Table were highly successful and culminated in a well-attended Counselor Information Session! Countless new volunteers were recruited to join our organization and further impact children in need in our community. Flapjack Fundraiser (November 22nd) Thanks to Applebee's in Lake Grove, Camp Kesem had the unique opportunity to serve breakfast to our friends and families in the community on November 22nd. The event, fondly known as the Flapjack Fundraiser, was a success with all guests happily fed with steaming plates of scrambled eggs, sausage links, and pancakes. Our student leaders were up early to prep for the day: hosting and serving and bussing the tables. During the meal, CKSB also offered gift baskets and a 50/50 auction as part of a fantastic raffle at the event hosted by our own CKSB family: our two campers, Brook "Puppy" Laine and Mason "Dude" Laine, and their mother, Beth Laine. We would like to extend a special thanks to Dude, who worked tirelessly as our leading contributor and fundraiser for the event. Through this successful collaboration, we are glad to announce that we raised over $1000 and would like to thank all in attendance. Giving Tuesday (December 2nd) #GivingTuesday™, the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, is a national movement created to kick off the giving season. Part of an annual tradition, Camp Kesem Stony Brook volunteers ventured across campus asking students and faculty to raise awareness of our organization and encourage the spirit of giving during the holidays. They posted fun and silly pictures of themselves on social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with our Giving Tuesday signs. 3 WINTER 2014 Camp Kesem Summit This year Camp Kesem hosted their annual National Student Leadership Development Summit at Camp Copneconic in Fenton, Michigan. We would like to thank all of the Kesem National Staff, Board of Directors, and Copneconic Staff in addition to everyone else who helped create an incredible weekend of memories. Our coordinators learned so much and can’t wait to put new ideas into action! Camp Kesem Stony Brook Reunion Camp Kesem Stony Brook held their first camper reunion on Saturday, November 15th. It was a chilly Saturday in the Kenneth P. LaValle stadium, where campers, parents and counselors bundled up and armed themselves with Stony Brook red pom poms and hot chocolate to witness the Seawolves take on the University of Rhode Island’s Rams. Before the game started campers, parents, and counselors in attendance enjoyed lunch, camp songs, and a special presentation given to them by the Spirit of Stony Brook Marching Band. It was an exciting game, ending 35-14 in favor of the Seawolves. 4 WINTER 2014 SAVE THE DATE Thursday March 5, 2015 For MAKE THE MAGIC!
