The 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters of The
Golfer revealed one thing: there is a
lot to do to be able to come up with
a 32-page club magazine. Obviously,
it is time to gear up for the 4th Quarter
issue of our magazine. The earlier we
start preparing, the better it is for us
to scale beyond the usual area of
coverage for advertisements and
other matters related to the production of the magazine. Those
outside looking in may not have realised what it entails to
produce a magazine the standard of which The Golfer aspires
to achieve and, thank goodness, has achieved.

There is room for improvement in every department, more
particularly so in the advertisement department. Those
entrusted to take up the responsibility to solicit advertisements
from prospective clients must push themselves to the limits to
realise the potential of what can be gained with a little bit of
extra mileage. As editor, I wish to appeal to every member to
chip in to boost our collection of advertisement fund for the
magazine.
Club members having an interest at heart for the growth and
prosperity of The Golfer should use all their influence and
initiative to solicit contributions from among our members in
the form of articles, sketches, cartoons, jokes, etc. The objective
of our club is to make our magazine a piece of club journal equal
to, if not better than, those produced by leading clubs in the
Asean region.
As I have always mentioned, The Golfer should expand beyond
32 pages. Prestigious clubs such as the Singapore Island Club,
to mention just one, has its magazine spreading up to 50 pages.
We may not be able to place ourselves at par with the Singapore
Island Club but it is not impossible for KGS to produce a quarterly
magazine with 35 to 40 pages. To do that, we have to get club
members to be passionate about helping KGS in the enrichment
of its club magazine. They could make literary contributions
covering subjects of family, social, humorous, general and
sporting interests.
The measure of a club with premier status is that its magazine,
monthly or quarterly, reveal the club’s intellectual strength, social
influence and membership prosperity. Reading through the
pages of The Golfer, we are still a long way before we could arrive
at that lofty and developed stage.
It is a pity that The Golfer is still unable to stand on its own feet
from advertisement revenue. For the sake of transparency,
advertisement income per quarter averages RM5,000.00. The
quarterly expenditure for the production of KGS magazine is
RM14,100.00. Hence, the need to subsidise quite substantially
for every quarter. Leading clubs in the region that have taken
full advantage of advertisement revenues pay for the production
of their magazines entirely from the proceeds collected from
advertisements. The management should sit down to work out
strategies to overcome this shortcoming. We should take
advantage of those committee members and club members who
are influential and have business connections to assist us in
procuring advertisement spaces.
If we have succeeded to impress KGS members with our current
effort, we should not be complacent and rest in smug
contentment. Our success should breed more success. With
everyone being conscious of our responsibility, we should make
it our pledge to produce The Golfer solely from income derived
from advertisements.

KGS can be proud of the quality of its magazine, its wide
readership covering 3,350 members. All our affiliated clubs
receive our magazine on a regular basis. As I see it, the
opportunities out there are abundant, if not limitless. Personal
contacts among committee members, club members and
individuals with interests in our club welfare and those potential
advertisement donors should do the trick rather than the
traditional method of writing letters to would-be contributors.
We all know that such letters of requests for advertisements in
our magazine have never been answered and will never be. It is
not difficult to understand why. In business dealings there is no
better way to conclude a deal than personal contacts and
personal touch.

I just dropped by at a friend’s office and suggested to him that
his company put up an advertisement in our magazine. His
response was immediate and thank God, it was positive. So we
had for the 2nd Quarter a new client participating in making a

I think it is time to congratulate members of the management committee, the staff and others, including members,
on the improvement to the club, particularly the golf courses. Some members and visitors have commented that
they now have no reasons not to have low scores playing at KGS. Many must have worked hard to make the
improvements possible.
I like to believe that there has been a ‘cultural change’ among staff and members of KGS; a change for the better
and I do hope that this change will continue until this new culture becomes established. I note that many members
and staff have been seen replacing divots, raking bunkers and picking up rubbish, such as cigarette butts, pieces of
paper and plastic wrappers which were left behind by others, and throwing them in their proper place, the bins. It
is heartening to see the caterers for the halfway houses stopping to do cleaning up around them. Obviously, there
are still some culprits. Let us hope that these few will become fewer as they become aware that their uncooperative
and inconsiderate habits are not welcome and adding costs and damaging the club.
It is important that the improvements must continue. KGS is more than just a club servicing its members. It is where
visiting dignitaries, right up to Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, play golf when they visit Sarawak. Our
members include “Who’s Who’ in Sarawak. Our President is the Chief Minister. KGS occupies a central place in
Kuching and what happens at KGS and the state it is in, can be a reflection of what Kuching is all about. We are
obliged to keep the pride of Kuching high. Let us bear this in mind and help make the club a better place - a place
where we can all keep our head high and enjoy our golfing experience and relaxation to the utmost.

of our senior golfers, went to Singapore and played at 4 of the clubs
affiliated to KGS namely, the Singapore Island Country Club, Warren
Golf & Country Club, Seletar Country Club and Orchid Country Club.
Dear fellow golfers,
Traditionally, at KGS, the second and
third quarters of the year are the
busiest times at our club, with all the
major and club tournaments in full
swing. This year is no exception. Our
September calendar is already full,
with the change of venue for the
Merdeka Cup (originally to be held
in Sibu) to KGS. We’ll take a break in
October during the Puasa Month
before we “push on” again in
November with a few more major tournaments to come.
Heading the group was our Deputy President, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri
Dr. Wong Soon Kai. We played friendly matches against the team put
up by Seletar Country Club and Orchid Country Club respectively.
Not only did our team enjoy the friendly matches and generous
hospitality of the host clubs, we also managed to enhance our
relationship with their committee members whom I’m sure will help
to nurture bi-lateral relationship between KGS and their clubs. We’ve
extended our open invitation for their members to visit us and I’m
sure we’ll be ready to reciprocate their hospitality when they visit us
next.
Almost all our tournaments are over-subscribed, an indication of the
strong support from our golfers. For this, I thank you all. A tournament
can only be as good as participation ... without keen participation of
members, even a well-sponsored tournament will lose its “shine”. With
keen participation and interaction in golf tournaments, we naturally
develop fellowship and goodwill amongst members and fellow
competitors.
Many of you would have noticed the spoon drain that we built over
the past few weeks alongside the buggy track in the Matang and
Santubong course. With the occasional onset of heavy showers during
the past week, we had the opportunity to test the effectiveness of
these spoon drains, and the feedback seems very positive indeed. We’ll
be installing more such spoon drains alongside a few more stretches
of the buggy track which are more prone to be water-logged, to
prepare ourselves for the coming landas season.
This is the spirit that gives a club, our club, the oomph! We can see the
spirit of goodwill and friendship clearly exhibited around the club
house especially at the golfers’ terrace. We tend to take this for granted,
but often the scene was “picked-up” and noticed by our visitors who
often commended us on this, the “KGS Clubbing Spirit”, the spirit that
we need to continue to nurture and build on, to make our club ... a
place like no other!
Lastly, it gives me great pleasure to report the recent successes of 3 of
our own junior golfers. Leonard Chin won the Mercedes Trophy Masters
Tournament in Bangkok and the victory earned him a place in the
Teens on the Green World Championship to be held in Atlanta, Georgia,
USA in October 2006. Well done Leonard! We wish you every success
at the Championship!
KGS played host to a VVIP twice during the past 3 months! We are
deeply honoured by the visit of Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan
Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Syed Putra
Jamalullail, first on 18 th June, 2006 for the Ngiling Tikai Golf in
conjunction with Hari Gawai Celebration and again on 31st August
2006, when His Majesty was in Kuching to grace the National Merdeka
Celebration in Kuching. Unfortunately, the game was cut short due to
inclement weather.
12-year-old Abdul Rahim Abang Abdul Rahman emerged the A Medal
Champion in the recent Astro Masters played at Damai Golf & Country
Club. This win earned him a place in the Astro Masters Grand Final to
be held at Pantai Indah Kapuk Golf Club, Jakarta on 15-18 November
2006. 14-year-old Amanda Chin won the Sarawak Classic Ladies
Section held at KGS recently.
Yang Di-Pertuan Agong was generous in his comments regarding our
course (ref. to page 15 and 22 for a reproduction of his comments in
our Visitors’ Book). We are very grateful for His Majesty’s
encouragement and will strive to continuously improve on the
maintenance and upkeep of our course. We eagerly await His Majesty’s
next visit to KGS.
Congratulations to all the Juniors for their recent successes and I am
sure we’ll hear more of them in the future.
I made mention of the inter-club visit to Singapore in the last issue of
The Golfer. I’m glad to report that in August, a group of us (22 golfers

Club Car Stickers
Collect your new car stickers at the Golf Registration Counter. The first two (2) stickers will be
charged at RM 1.00 per piece. Additional stickers are charged at RM 50.00 per piece.
Indiscriminate Parking
The Management would like to seek members’ full cooperation to observe parking
regulations to ensure the smooth flow of traffic within the Club premises. A fine of
RM 30.00 shall be imposed on members who park indiscriminately around the club vicinity
(i.e. yellow line and restricted areas).
Lightning & Siren
A Friendly Reminder
For safety reason, all golfers are advised to stop play
immediately once the siren for Discontinue Play is
turned on.
Disciplinary actions will be taken against those who fail
to observe the instruction.
Golfers are advised not to leave any
valuables / personal belongings
unattended inside the buggy to avoid
occurrence of any untoward incidents.
No Smoking Area
Notice
With immediate effect, members who are found to
smoke at non-smoking areas will be fined
RM 100.00 for each offence committed.
Cross over from Siol and

KGS One Ringgit Charity Fund
On the 20th June, about 5 charitable organisations
in Sarawak received donation from the Club
amounting RM 2000.00 each. Representing the Club
were Shahary Alias, Club Secretary and Bernard Lee
Meng Hock, KGS General Manager to hand over the
cheques to the representatives of the charitable
organisations. The five charitable organisations were
Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Kuching Chapter, Persatuan Hospis Sarawak,
Rumah Seri Kenangan, Sarawak Cheshire Home and Sarawak Society For
The Deaf.
KGS Charity Fund was started in the year 1999. The main objective of the
fund is to provide financial assistance to charitable organisations in Sarawak
particularly in Kuching.
News from Caddy Committee, Captain’s Committee 2006
The Caddy Committee has taken steps to look into the performance of the caddies as well as their welfare.
Caddy Evaluation Form
Caddy of the 2nd Quarter of 2006 Wan Hamdan
Caddy evaluation forms are provided for golfers to assess the performance of their caddies during the round of golf. Assessment
shall be based on their knowledge, skill and attitude as caddies.
Every caddy before caddying shall be given a caddy evaluation form and he shall hand it over to the golfer at the end of the round
for assessment. The evaluation form must be deposited into the Caddy Assessment Box provided.
Awards will be given out quarterly to the best caddy assessed. This evaluation will also provide some basis for upgrading of
caddies. This year the award for the best caddy of 2nd Quarter went to Encik Wan Hamdan.
Caddy Charity Fund
The Caddy Charity Fund was started in June 2006. The objective of the fund is to provide
financial assistance to caddies who are in need of help due to any unfortunate
happenings. In the months of June and July, with the generous contributions from
the members, guests and staff of KGS, we were able to collect about RM 2000.00 for
our long time serving caddy, Minggu Wee who had served KGS since 1990 until the
unfortunate incident last year which caused him to be paralysed.
The fund will be given to him in three stages, the first of which consisting cash
RM 500.00 and daily goods worth RM 300.00 was delivered to Minggu at his house on Friday, 11th August 2006 by a delegation
headed by the Deputy Club Captain, Caddy Committee Chairman and the Club Management.
The Caddy Committee would like to thank all the members, guests and staff for the contributions towards the fund.

To serve you better the club management aims to continually improve the services and facilities that the club
has to offer. These are some of the changes made for improvement.
Golf Course Rectification Work.

Registration of Buggy
With immediate effect, all buggy registrations must
be done at the Golf Registration Counter at the main
clubhouse. Cash transaction is not allowed at the
Buggy Centre.
1.
The golfer using the buggy must undertake
to return the said buggy at the end of play in
as good condition as received.
2. The buggy user shall not hold KGS/ Buggy
Centre responsible for any damages or claims
whatsoever arising from the golfer’s use of
the said buggy, and shall be solely
responsible to pay for
all the damages
incurred while the
said buggy is in the
golfer’s possession.
3. Buggy users must be
over 18 years of age.
2-Ball or 1-Ball Matches on Weekends/Public
Holidays
With immediate effect, 2-Ball or 1-Ball matches are allowed on Siol/
Demak nines before 8:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m. on weekends and
public holidays. Walk-in registration is 30 minutes before tee-off time.
Booking in advance is not permitted.
Forfeiture of Tournament Prizes
Winners of all golf tournaments organised by the club are required to
be present at the prize giving function to collect their prizes, failing
which the prizes will be forfeited. Those who are unable to be present
must submit a written explanation to the Tournament Committee for
exemption.
Dress Code During Prize Giving Lunch
As a gesture of courtesy and respect for our sponsors,
fellow members and guests, all golfers must be smartly
dressed when attending the prize giving ceremony
for all club competitions. Singlets and sleeveless shirts
are not allowed.

Purefit Sportexcel National Circuit
About 40 junior golfers from all over Malaysia competed to be the
best in the Purefit Sportexcel National Circuit golf competition
which was held on the 7th & 8th June 2006. The two-day event
witnessed Alex Tiong from Sibu emerged as champion in Boys
Group A. Meanwhile KGS junior golfer, Oh Sea Joon proved himself
by winning the first place in Boys Group B. Amanda Chin also
grabbed number one spot in Girls Group C. For the combined Boys
Group D and Girls Group D, Leonard Chin beat the entire rivalry by
winning the first place in the group.

Ngiling Tikai 2006 / Agong Visit
On the 18th of June, once again
the club was greatly honoured
by the visit of Seri Paduka
Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan
Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin
Ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail to
grace the Ngiling Tikai Golf 2006. Another Guest Of Honour was our Tuan
Yang Terutama Yang di Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang
Haji Muhammad Salahuddin. The event, which started at 8.00 a.m.
sharp witnessed more than 100 participants.
In the main event, Jack Karin received the championship trophy
from His Majesty when he became the overall champion with a
score of 67 nett. Roslan Salleh grabbed first place in the gross
section with the score of 77. Meanwhile in the Invited Guests
category, Mr. Vincent Tan and YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Ahmad Johan won
the first place in the nett and gross section respectively.

KGS 12th Annual Gym Night
On the 12th of June, KGS held its 12th Annual Gym Night in
appreciation of its gym members. Lots of activities were
prepared for the night event such as introduction of new gym
members, dance performances, games and much more. With
Mr. Clarence Soh, Mr. Alenge as hosts for the night, all gym
members, not forgetting our Gym Chairman, Dr. Lee Hua Seng,
attended the function and enjoyed themselves throughout
the night.
Staff Dinner 2006
On 24th June 2006, the Club organised its annual
staff dinner. The objective of the annual dinner was
to strengthen the relationship among the staff and
the management. The dinner which started at 8.00 p.m.
was attended by our Deputy President, DPTS Dr. Wong
Soon Kai who also kindly contributed RM 1000.00 for the
lucky draw. Many exciting entertainments such as live
band performance, games and lucky draws were offered. The
night also witnessed the presentation of awards for long service and
outstanding performances of KGS staff.

Sarawak Classic 2006
(YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. George Chan’s Challenge Trophy)
On 29th & 30th July, the Club organised the Sarawak Classic 2006
golf competition. More than 100 golfers from all over Sarawak
took part in this event. The two-day event tested the golfers’
skill and endurance and the best was declared the proud
winner for the YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. George Chan’s
Challenge Trophy 2006.

On 31st July 2006, about 40 students from Institut
Perguruan Tun Abdul Razak visited our Club. The visit was
part of the curriculum for their subject. The Club
management welcomed them and later briefed them
about KGS. After that, they were brought around the
vicinity of the clubhouse to see our facilities and to the
golf course to enlighten them on the operations and
maintenance of the golf course. The students were
treated to lunch towards the end of their visit.

Hyundai Classic 2006
The ever popular Hyundai Classic was held on Saturday, 12th August 2006. The
event, which has been two years in existence, attracted so many golfers that it
was well over subscribed. Hyundai Classic 2006 offered 1 unit of Hyundai Sonata
and 1 unit of Inokom Matrix as the hole-in-one prizes.
This year, Salim Pai carded a nett score of 67 to be the winner on count back in
the nett category followed by Awang Ibrahim and Gilbert Tan in second
and third placing respectively. For the gross category, Muas Sebli with
the score of 76 secured the first placing followed by Mohamad Ashari
second with 78 and Kho Hua Sin third place with 79.

Transview Classic 2006
The 5th Transview Classic 2006 was successfully held on the
19th August 2006. More than 200 participants took part in
various categories and played at Matang/Santubong and Siol
/Demak courses.
For the Group A gross category, our junior golfer Leonard
Chin took the first place with an impressive score of 76
followed by Muas Sebli and Herman Bulang in second and
third respectively. Meanwhile, Robert Elone Sireng scored 66
nett to emerge as winner in the Group A Nett. In Group B,
Alex Chan Soo Kiat won the nett category with a 67 while
Abang Marani shot 89 to win in the gross category.
SCOREBOARD
In the Invited Guests category, Lucas Lai took home the first
prize after beating Kong Chee Kwong and Madzlan Mohd
Salleh to second and third place in the nett event. Meanwhile
Sylvester Ajah won the gross category with a score of 82.

Agong’s 2nd Visit to KGS
On the National Day 31 st
August 2006, the club was
once again honoured by

Agong Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Ibni Al-Marhum
Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail. The Royal visit to KGS by His Majesty
was done after officiating the 49th Merdeka Celebration which was
held at Padang Merdeka. Tuan Yang Terutama Yang di-Pertua Negeri
Sarawak together with our Deputy President Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri
Dr. Wong Soon Kai and other Management Committee members
were at the club to welcome His Majesty.
After some light lunch, His Majesty began his round of golf game at
our Matang / Santubong course. Unfortunately the game was cut
short to nine holes due to bad weather. During tea time, the Club

KGS Transview Junior Monthly Medals
The Junior Monthly Medals was introduced in the month of July 2006. The main objective
of the programme is to encourage junior members to play golf as part of their sports
activities and to sharpen their skills. This programme also aims to nurture future golf talents
from KGS.
The first monthly medal was held on the 15th July 2006. The monthly medal was divided
into 3 categories consisting of Group A (Handicap 18 & below), Group B (Handicap 19-40)
and 9 holes game. For the month of July, Joanna Sim, Goh Chee Chen and Laura Goh were
the winners for their respective categories.
The August monthly medal was divided in two categories comprising combined group A,
B & C and 9 holes game. This time, Brenner Goh won the combined group category while
Celine Goh won the 9 holes game. Congratulations to all the winners and keep it up.

On Sunday, 25th June, the Club organised a
KGS Colouring & Drawing competition. The
event was divided into 4 categories open
to all children of KGS members. The main
objective of the event was to provide some
activities for the children and to uncover
their talents. More than 30 children took
part in this joyous event which also saw the
chairman and members of the Library
Committee giving a helping hand and not
forgetting the parents, who came to give
full support to their children. All the best to
the participants! Nervous expressions on
the faces of the young participants while
smiles and satisfaction on the faces of the
parents were what you could see that day.

With seven teams, we had our game also
at Siol and Demak on the 22nd of July 2006.
Based on three best scores of each team
members, Camelia was all out playing well

BUZY BEES BALLSWEEP RESULTS
June 2006
Lim Soh Hua was given the task to organise
the game. Dame’s Cup was simultaneously
played on the same day as the Flower Power
Team event. It was played only on Siol/Demak
courses and handicap played would be of July’s
official handicap. The cut off qualifiers was
sixteen players and Lim Soh Hua had her chart
displayed at the Ladies Changing Room.

would also like to say thank you and our utmost gratitude to Celine Foo for
her time to look for a sponsor of RM200.00 to the Dame’s Cup event. We
sincerely hope all ladies could give us full support in any event that we

SWINGING COUPLES
The Ladies’ Committee has once again organised ‘The
Swinging Couples’. As usual many factors have brought
husbands to join forces with the wives to outdo other couples
It was played on June 16th and the battle was at Siol and
Demak. About 20 couples took part and that morning there
was a lot of ‘huh hah’ among husbands that they were
threatened by their wives if they decided to change their mind
not to play because they were invited to join the Agong at
Matang-Santubong (The Ngiling Tikai event). The husbands
were quite tempted to abandon the wives but a little
persuasion did go a long way. Thank you ladies for your stand
to support us. We would like to say thank you to all husbands
for making time to spend their weekend with their wives. A
big BRAVO to all of you.

Gym Instructor
Dexter Bong, an 18-year-old undergraduate at Swinburne Kuching, joined
KGS Gym in August 2005. A keen basketball player at the time, his main
intention for joining our KGS Gym was to improve his speed, physical
endurance, jumping ability and overall power. It was easy to see that just
after a few weeks of regular gym sessions, Dexter was increasing his muscle
mass exponentially. Seeing as though Dexter was growing so well, I felt it
was my duty to suggest that he should take up bodybuilding. I knew he had
great potential to be one of the greats, as I could see from his body structure,
growing ability and obvious ‘Body Builder Genetics’. Taking into account his
age, he would make a great body builder.
I discussed this with him, but he seemed uncertain and claimed to only be
interested in basketball. After a long conversation, I managed to convince
him to give bodybuilding a chance. But there was a catch, in order to record
and view his own progress, he would have to stop playing basketball, as it
would affect his muscle growth. Many intense, restless months of consistent
training and dieting passed, whilst his physique changed and evolved, until
he decided to join his first professional bodybuilding competition, the Mr.
Kuching Juniors Under 21 Body Building Competition, which was held at the
Kuching Civic Centre, on the 24th of June 2006. He entered an ordinary guy,
but left a champion. Taking only a few days to rest and celebrate his victory, he quickly moved on to prepare for his next
competition, the Mr. Sarawak Juniors Under 21 Body Building Competition at Rajah Court Hotel on the 15th of July 2006,
where again he ripped through all of the contenders in his category. His victory can only be described as ‘perfect’ as everybody
in the audience could clearly tell who the victor would be from the moment Dexter walked to centre stage. The result of his
victory in the Mr. Sarawak Junior Under 21 Bodybuilding competition did not only end with Dexter receiving the Mr. Sarawak
title, but also an invitation to represent Sarawak in the Mr. Malaysia Juniors Under 21 Body Building Championship on the
29th July 2006 in Penang.
This will be his hardest competition yet as we are all certain that he will again, be victorious. We wish him all the best and
hope that he returns to us as the Champion of Malaysia, bringing glory to the State. Win or lose, Dexter will still be our
rightful champion.
Good luck Dexter, we’re with you, buddy.

Johnny’s Tee Time
Johnny was an avid golfer. He played golf every chance
he got; in the rain, in the cold, he even used black balls
to play when there was snow on the ground. His wife
joked, half in jest, that she was a golf widow and she
really wouldn’t miss her husband all that much if he
died before her, for he was never around anyhow. He
spent all his spare money on golf items and gadgets;
trick exploding balls, tees with no indentation on the
top so the golf ball would roll off it, towels with witty
golf sayings on them and all kinds of golf hats.
“Good gracious, Johnny, no one has ever asked me that
question before. I’ll have to go back and check on it. Go
back to sleep and I’ll be back in about 20 minutes.” With
that, the angel disappeared. Johnny rubbed his eyes
and opened them again. The angel was gone and Johnny
wondered if he had just had a weird dream. He rolled
over on his side and was soon snoring softly again.
True to his word, the angel reappeared within 20 minutes.
“Johnny,” the angel called.
One night he was in bed asleep after having played 36holes of golf that day. He was tired but he dreamed of
replaying the whole round. Suddenly his dream was
interrupted by the appearance of an angel. It was an
angel like he had seen in Bible drawings and other art
work depicting angels. He was instantly awake.
Johnny woke up to see the angel again standing at the
foot of his bed. “Oh, you’re back.”
“Yes, Johnny, I’m back and I have the answer to your
question. But before I tell you, I have to advise that the
answer is in two parts, good news and bad news. Which
do you want first, the good news or the bad news?”
The angel, with a full set of wings and wearing a long
flowing white robe, stood at the foot of his bed.
“Johnny,” the angel said. “Yes, what is it? You are an
angel, aren’t you?” Johnny asked. “Of course I’m an
angel. In fact, I’m your guardian angel” the angel replied.
“Does that mean I get three wishes?” Johnny asked.
“Oh dear, I suppose give me the good news first,”
responded Johnny. “Okay, the good news is, there are
golf courses in heaven. All the courses have been
designed by Bobby Jones, Jene Sarazan and Sam Snead.
There are no green fees and electric carts are provided
at no charge. You have the choice of any brand of clubs
you desire. Each course has 36-holes. The greens are
always freshly mowed, the sand traps freshly raked, the
roughs aren’t too high and you never lose a ball in the
water for the balls float. When you hit a ball into the
woods they always ricochet back into the middle of the
fairway. And on every par three hole you will score a
hole-in-one. Yes, you will have a wonderful time playing
golf in heaven.”
“No, I’m not that kind of guardian angel,” the heavenly
being answered. “As you know, Johnny, you’re getting
on in years and you don’t have as much time left on
earth as you once did. Although I can’t grant wishes
for you, I can answer question you might have about
the hereafter. You do believe in the hereafter, don’t
you, Johnny?”
“Oh yes and I’ve been good, with maybe the possible
exception of having played too much golf in my lifetime,”
Johnny replied. “Playing golf is like going fishing,”
replied the angel. “There is no such thing as playing
too much golf or going fishing too often. Do you have
any questions about heaven?” “As a matter of fact, I
do,” answered Johnny. “I’ve often wondered if there
are any golf courses in heaven. Can you answer that
question for me?”
“Oh, that sounds wonderful. With all that good news
what could the bad news possibly be?” Johnny
wondered aloud.
“The bad news is you have a nine o’clock tee time
tomorrow morning.”

A keen golfer died upon reaching his 52nd year. He had been known as a notorious golfer during his
lifetime. He would not have any qualms breaking golf rules and altering his scorecard to improve his
scores especially during competitions. In other words, he would cheat at all costs. So notorious was he
that the golfing fraternity gave him a nickname: “Mr. One Cheat One Putt”.
Members of the golfing fraternity paid their last respect at his house. Among them were a woman and
his 3-year-old son.
As they were standing by his casket, the woman’s 3-year-old son asked, “Mommy, what happened to
him?”
She replied, “He died and went to heaven.”
The child thought for a moment and said, “And God threw him back down?”
A Hokkien Joke ..... Look After Your Head When Playing Golf
While playing golf, Louis Lim, one of the senior golfers, was hit on the head by a golf ball that ricocheted
from the branch of a nearby tree. He had a concussion and was hospitalised for treatment. Dr. Quek
was assigned to be his doctor. Soon after Louis was discharged from the hospital, Dr. Quek made a
routine house call. He asked, “And how are you doing today, Mr. Lim?”
Louis replied, “I feel just fine, doc. But you know, it’s the strangest thing. Every night when I get up to
pang jio, the bathroom light goes on for me automatically when I open the door!”
Dr. Quek was worried that the old Louis was getting senile, so he phoned Louis’s son, and the son’s wife
answered.
Dr. Quek told her, “Mrs. Lim, I’m a little concerned about your father-in-law. It seems that when he gets
up to urinate at night and opens the bathroom door, the light somehow goes on...”
At which point, Mrs. Lim yells, “Aiyoh, Ah Seng! Ah Pa pang jio in the fridge again!”
