President’s Message DAEDEOK INNOPOLIS is Korea’s Power Cluster Daedeok Innopolis, a place where bright minds come to develop the next-generation technology, is comfortably surrounded by lush greenery setting the scene for good working environment. It’s a place where business operations and research activities are conducted efficiently and conveniently. Furthermore, it’s a world-class innovation cluster where creativity openly blossoms and breathes. B-Boy Performance It is my great hope that Daedeok Innopolis to have the privilege of holding the 2010 IASP World Conference. Today, 70 R&D institutes (including 30 government sponsored institutes), 6 universities, and over 800 companies in advanced fields of IT, BT, NT, ST and RT have formed a next generation innovation cluster in Daedeok. With over 14,000 researchers and more than 10% of all Korean patents, Daedeok has a proven track record in the commercialization of DRAM, SRAM, LCD modules, CDMA and wireless broadband technologies. We’re also well known for the development of the blockbuster drug ‘Factive’ and for developing an AIDS diagnostic test, WiBro (Wireless Broadband), DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), and launching 10 cutting-edge satellites. Dear IASP Members, Daedeok Innopolis has been a major power house for science and technology breakthroughs in Korea over the past thirty years. It has made numerous technological innovations that surprised the world and heightened Korea’s standing in the international community. Based on the achievement, Daedeok Innopolis has transformed itself from an R&D complex into an innovation cluster where businesses flourish with technological entrepreneurship. Daejeon Metropolitan City, where Daedeok is located, is known for its rich culture and its pursuit of scientific excellence in the world. Now, we are making every effort to share our resources and experiences with other countries. We’re keen to build a global network, where we can benefit together. On behalf of some 800 businesses, 70 research institutes, 6 universities, and all the talented and hard-working people of Daedeok Innopolis, I can assure you that we are all united in hosting a memorable and successful event of 2010 IASP World Conference. As a case in point, through the cooperation of Samsung Electronics, Sprint has adopted its mobile Internet access platform for the United States. View of Daedeok Innopolis (2007) Daejeon Metropolitan City, where Daedeok Innopolis is located, has successfully hosted numerous international events. Strong and active support from citizens of Daejeon will allow us to make entertaining and exciting conference. Daejeon hosted the Daejeon World Expo ‘93, which attracted 14 million participants, and the 2002 Korea/Japan World Cup in great success. In 2009, Daejeon will host another major conference, the 2009 International Astronautical Congress, with the participation of some 3,000 dignitaries from across the world. The Daejeon Convention Center is a state-of-the-art conference venue with over 1,000 hotel rooms within the 3 minutes walk radius. Korea’s 300km-per-hour bullet train will take you to any major city in Korea within an hour, including Seoul filled with countless recreational, shopping, and tourist attractions. We will offer FREE SHUTTLE BUS for the IASP Conference participants to and from Incheon International Airport.
