ODYSSIUM - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Space Place in the TransCanada PipeLines Gallery: This is a small theatre with a front projection screen and a small sound system where visitors can select shows by pressing a demand button. Or join one of four teams of scientists to investigate various aspects of space exploration. Topics range from whether there is life on other planets and how to keep the earth safe from Asteroids. They can also operate a robotic device or try on a space suite. The Greens' House in the EPCOR Environment Gallery: This Gallery features a special interactive exhibit called “Weather Forecaster ” where visitors can role play a TV weather person or be the director. The director sits at a console and views the camera shot, studio feed and the composite program on three monitors, one of four possible weather scenarios is selected and the taping begins. The talent stands in front of a green screen and reads from a teleprompter located beside monitors, which enable them to view the composite output and point at items that are keyed over the green screen. After the recording is completed participants can replay and view the program off of a two-channel hard disk recorder, which is always recording the current session. A programmable controller controls the selection of background material, teleprompter scripts, the “on air” signs, studio lights, switches video signals and replay kiosk. The Body Fantastic in the Allard Family Gallery: Featuring the “House of Illusion”, a small interactive theatre consisting of an audience seating area, rear screen projection system and a small sound system. This display either runs in hosted or non-hosted mode. A countdown clock counts down the time to the next presentation, which is triggered when the clock reaches zero. A host can do a live introduction and then start the show using a RF wireless remote. Visitors can also immerse themselves with large three-dimensional models that let them experience how our bodies function, our brains work or the weird things about our bodies in the Gallery of the Gross. Mystery Avenue in the Hole Family Gallery: In the Forensics Gallery there are a number of computer interactives consisting of a computer and monitor, powered multimedia speakers and a track ball. Each computer station runs a game from the local hard drive or is networked to play with multiple players. There are also a number of video stations, some continuously loop video from industrial DVD players while others play an opening sequence and are started on demand by a visitor. Audio stations play provided soundscapes and consist of digital message repeaters or digital audio reproducers, speakers and triggering devices, which vary from demand buttons to motion detectors, some are set to loop continuously. Visitors collect clues then analyze them in the crime lab where they can check their conclusions against others at the Police Station.
