President’s Message April 2016:
SMITTY’S FARMS
Hi Everyone,
RICK & LYNDA SMITH
4890 N BROADWAY RD.
APPLE RIVER, IL 61001
815-594-2225
If you’re calving, I hope all is going good. I
started...only because I couldn’t pen up my young bull.
He didn’t want to go in with those two big bulls.
Smarter than he looks!
“We Specialize in Red”
Keep good calving records to make it easy to report to
Danny Meyer. He accepts both calving and weaning
reports.
Keep up on your PMT Testing. Hopefully we can stop
testing in a few more years, because we’ve made it
obsolete by testing and eliminating PMT CARRIERS.
Hope to see a big crowd the 24th and 25th of June at the
National Convention and Show. Thanks to the Blairs for
putting on the Convention. We should have enough
cattle to have a show. Round up some of those nice
looking BueLingo.
Keep Belting,
Rick Smith

MIDWEST NEWS
Spring is here!!! BueLingo babies are a beautiful sight. We have 78 calves on the ground and counting! Hope everyone has a great
calving crop...
Looking back, our Midwest BueLingo Cattle Association annual meeting was held in Dodgeville, WI on January 23, 2016. The
meeting was well attended, and very informative. Thanks to all who participated.
Save the weekend of June 25th, 2016 and join in on the National Convention hosted this year by Harvey & Sue Blair family.
The 2016 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days will be held on July 19-21, 2016 at Snudden Farms, Town of Zenda, (near
Lake Geneva, WI), Walworth County. We will have a booth, and all are welcome to attend and promote beef and BueLingo.
Renewal date for annual Midwest membership was March 1, 2016. If you haven't done so, please do so soon. Family membership is $30.00 per year. Junior membership is $5.00 per year, and Gift membership (given by a paid member to a non-member, first
year only), is $15.00 per year. Any questions, please call 608-922-3322. Dues may be sent to MBCA, 9364 Silver Spring Rd,
Gratiot, WI 53541. Thank you!
We would encourage you to check out and join our Facebook site, Belted Beauties Classifieds And News-BueLingo Cattle. Midwest Chairman, Stan Olson is in charge of the site, and would love to approve your friend request. This is a great place to keep in
touch, and you may also buy, sell, or trade. An ad for a member is $15, and non-member is $30. An annual fee for members is
$100, which includes an unlimited number of ads, but a total of 7 active ads on the site at one time. Stan will post for you once your
ad is paid, and this may be sent to MBCA, (same address as above). What a great way to buy and sell, and support the Midwest Association! Any questions on this, please call Stan @608-576-3666, or email at olsonhca@aol.com.
We are trying to become more email friendly also. Please let us know if you would like email messages so as to keep informed. We do updates when available on midwestbuelingo.com, and on the BueLingo Facebook site.
Thank you for your support! Let's all keep promoting the breed!
Happy Spring,
LuAnn Monson, Midwest Secretary/Treasurer

Secretary’s Message: April 2016
Susan Blair, Executive Secretary
Harvey and I, and Cory and his family are looking forward to welcoming everyone to the 2016 National Convention. We
would like to thank our BueLingo friends and neighbors Dean & LuAnn Monson, Rick & Lynda Smith, and Scott & Judy Brener for
helping with Friday’s activities of Farm Tours and our evening Meet and Greet at the Monson’s. We hosted the convention in 2006
and that was the year I became the Executive Secretary. So, hopefully everything will run as smoothly as it did 10 years ago.
I am also very pleased with the response of cattle being provided for the Show on Saturday. We are around the 35 mark.
All details are in this issue, so if anyone else would like to show cattle, by all means give me a call or better yet, get your paper work
in to me by the 1st of June. We will take late comers, but it is so nice to have all the information ready to roll before you get here.
(Takes time to get it set up and printed out). We will have some new faces at the show, too. We have started a tradition of putting a
picture of the Champion and Reserve Champion animals on a plaque. We have asked for sponsors of the plaques, and would like to
continue that tradition. (See chart on page 10). I’m guessing the costs between $30.00 and $35.00 per plaque. Maybe you would
like to share the sponsorship with someone. We are also accepting cash donations towards the youth Showmanship awards. Convention fees are the same as 2014.
Saturday, the National BueLingo Cattle Show will be held at our County Fairgrounds in the morning and all other activities
will be held at the Blair farm. We will have a luncheon, General Membership meeting, and Farm Tour. In the evening awards will
be awarded, Ribeye steaks will be eaten, and BueLingo Novelty items will be auctioned off. (Hope our “notorious” auctioneer can
be here to help us out) Just don’t look up the word notorious until after the Convention. We encourage anyone to put together a
“Basket” or any other items you would like to donate towards raising money to support the BueLingo Society. We have had quite an
assortment to add to our BueLingo décor in the past.
We do have a few promotional items for sale, but there won’t be any new items to offer this year. It seems anyone can digitalize just about anything now days. So, once our inventory is depleted that will be the end of selling BueLingo merchandise through
the office. (unless we find a really, really good buy on something) Right now to get the best deals, we need to buy in large quantities. A list of items available can be found on page 8.
We hope to see a record attendance at the Convention in June.
Sincerely Belted,
Susan Blair

Nash Heimann of Warren, IL
Nash owns 2 BueLingo (a steer and a yearling
heifer) and needed a project for the Learning Fair
at the local grade school.
The Learning Fair allows students to
choose a subject to learn about and then teach
other students what they learned.
Many students participated in the Learning
Fair covering and array of subjects. Nash helped
expose BueLingo to all who attended.
The project served a dual purpose because
he was also able to use it as a 4-H project, too.
Thank you Nash for Promoting the
BueLingo Breed of Cattle.

PMT Tail Hair Submittals - Deadline Dates:
The Board has set the 1st of June and the 1st of January for
deadline dates to have samples into the office. This helps
with getting the samples to the U of I after the Christmas
break and before the summer breaks.
If your collection card is not in the office by the Deadline
date, then it will be held until the next submittal date. The
collections will not deteriorate in that time frame unless they
are kept in the extreme cold or extreme hot. (like the
dashboard of the truck, etc) Protect them from being contaminated and store in a sealed plastic bag. Be sure and
collect at least 25 to 30 follicles to provide a sufficient sample for testing. If the animal is not registered, provide pedigree information and date of birth, so if the animal
should be registered we can cross reference to the test
results already provided. Thank you

Among Life’s Hiway
Life ain’t so far from right to wrong.
That trail ain’t hard to lose.
There is times you’d almost give your life
To know which one to choose.
There ain’t no signs or guide posts up,
To keep us on the track.
Wrong is sometimes white as snow
And right looks awful black.
I don’t want to be the one to see
Right or wrong in men,
I’ve lost the trail sometimes myself,
I may get lost again.
So when I see a man who looks
as tho he’s lost his way,
I like to put my hand in his,
To help him find the way.
