INTRODUCTION
The 69th Cannes Festival presents a selection of
UK films and film talent in its 2016 edition. This
Catalogue includes details of all UK productions
and official co-productions screening across
the various Cannes sections. It also highlights
some of the other titles screening which are
not official co-productions but which have
significant British elements.
It is divided into the following sections:
1. UK Films – Cannes Features and Shorts
screening in the Official Selection including
Competition, Short Films Competition,
Cinéfondation Shorts Selection, and the parallel
section Cannes Classics.
2. UK Films – Current Titles – an overview of
UK feature-length films that have premiered at
international film festivals or been on UK release
over the past year but which are still available
for international festival selection.
3. UK Films – Coming Soon – a selection of
films designed to give a flavour of some of the
titles that will be available for festival selection
over the coming 12 months.
This catalogue has been compiled by the
British Council, one of a number of key UK Film
organisations represented in Cannes under the
single umbrella of WE ARE UK FILM. A grouping
of UK film commissions, national and regional
agencies and sales companies, together we
provide clear information about our outstanding
locations, services, films and talent, and
we represent the UK Film industry enabling
connections with both national and international
partners.
The British Council, whose film team acts as a
link between UK films and filmmakers and new
international audiences, works with a range of
programme selector teams from the world’s
premier international film festivals, including
the teams from Cannes, to arrange preview
screenings of the best new British films.

Howards End
Synopsis
Synopsis
‘Loving’ celebrates the real-life courage and
commitment of an interracial couple, Richard
and Mildred Loving, who married and then spent
the next nine years fighting for the right to live
as a family in their hometown. Their civil rights
case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the
Supreme Court, which in 1967 reaffirmed the very
foundation of the right to marry – making their love
story an inspiration to couples everywhere.

Ali and Nino
1st
Synopsis
Anna is stuck. Her greatest happiness was her
relationship with her twin brother, but since his
death, 18 months ago, she’s on a downward spiral
that includes returning to her rural home-town,
abandoning any hope of a sex life, and making
the shed at the bottom of her Mum and Nan’s
garden into her home. When her Mum serves
her with an ultimatum, Anna’s life of emotional
isolation becomes impossible to maintain. Soon
she is entangled with a troubled boy obsessed
with Westerns, and the local estate agent
whose awkward interpersonal skills continually
undermine his attempts to seduce her. A story
about confronting the things we are most scared
of – exploring the universal themes of being lost
and finding yourself, making peace with who you
are, and regaining self-confidence and dignity.
It’s basically the same themes as ‘Rocky’ but with
thumbs. And a cowboy. And no boxing.

Alone in Berlin
The American Epic Sessions
Synopsis
Synopsis
Berlin 1940. The city is paralyzed by fear. Otto
and Anna Quangel are a working class couple
living in a shabby apartment block trying, like
everyone else, to stay out of trouble under Nazi
rule. But when their only child is killed fighting at
the front, their loss drives them to an extraordinary
act of resistance. They start to drop anonymous
postcards all over the city attacking Hitler and
his regime. If caught, it means certain execution.
Soon their campaign comes to the attention of
the Gestapo inspector Escherich and a murderous
game of cat-and-mouse begins. But the game
serves only to strengthen Otto and Anna’s sense of
purpose and a renewed love for each other. Slowly
their drab lives and marriage are transformed as
they unite in their quiet but profound rebellion..
This film is a haunting collision of past and present,
presided over by the high priests of the great
tradition of American music, Jack White and
T Bone Burnett, who also executive produced
with Robert Redford. Long before digital file
sharing, MP3, compact discs, tape and vinyl, a
machine was forged from ingenuity. The Western
Electric lathe, a marvel of analogue engineering
operated by a weight and pulleys, pioneered the
recording of American music. In an old Hollywood
studio, one has been lovingly reassembled. In it,
White gathers an extraordinary convocation of
musical superstars, all keen to cut a record in the
unforgiving three minutes the Western Electric
provides. Featuring live performances from Elton
John, Nas, Willie Nelson, Alabama Shakes, Steve
Martin, Ana Gabriel, Merle Haggard, Taj Mahal and
many more. (LFF brochure)

The Banksy Job
Being AP
Synopsis
March 2004. The artist known as Banksy illegally
erects a ten-foot statue in a small square off
Shaftsbury Avenue in central London. Titled ‘The
Drinker’, this sculpture is a replica of Rodin’s ‘The
Thinker’ - with a traffic cone placed on its head.
The only clue as to who put it there is a stencil
on the plinth that merely says ‘Banksy’. Then, one
day, in broad daylight, masked thieves pull up with
a flatbed truck and cart ‘The Drinker’ away - a
reporter from a national newspaper receives a
ransom note from a man calling himself AK47,
claiming to represent a group of ‘art terrorists’
calling themselves ‘ART KEIDA’.
Synopsis
Nineteen-time champion jump jockey AP McCoy
(aka Tony McCoy) has notched up more than 4,300
wins, 700 falls, 40 broken bones and a BBC Sports
Personality of the Year Award in 2010 across a near
25-year racing career. This documentary follows AP
in the final year of his extraordinary career as he
fights to become champion for an unbelievable 20th
time and faces a future out of the saddle. Made with
exclusive access to the Northern Irish jockey, his
family and racing teams for the 2014-15 season.
Toronto International Film Festival 2015
- World premiere
After several years back and forth between the
media, Banksy and Art Keida, it is alleged that the
artist called Banksy ‘arranged’ for the statue to be
destroyed by any means necessary... Now, after all
this time, it seems that AK47 is about to breathe
new life into the saga.

Synopsis
Synopsis
The Bolshoi Ballet. Symbol of Russia, a worldfamous national treasure - mystical and intriguing.
Recently, however, the ballet company has been
in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. The
2013 acid attack on the company’s director Sergei
Filin, intrigue and management changes have
created lurid headlines. Director Nick Read gains
remarkable access to the inner workings of the
company for the first time as they move into a new
chapter in the wake of the notorious attack. The film
gives a voice to artistes and company members
who are not usually in the limelight in irreverent
and candid terms. Combining epic themes with
intimate portraits, and historical dramas with the
untold personal stories of agony and ecstasy that
lie behind every acclaimed performance.
Following the death of their friend, two women
in their late twenties embark on a road trip to
spread his ashes. Seph and Alex take turns driving.
Dan is in the glove compartment, in tupperware,
decreasing in volume as the trip progresses.

Chemsex
Couple in a Hole
Synopsis
Synopsis
A shorthand term made popular by gay men in
recent years for the use of drugs (specifically
crystal meth, GHB and mephedrone) in a sexual
context, ‘chemsex’ has been seen by some as
a significant contributing factor in the rise of
HIV diagnoses in London... In this unflinching
documentary, we meet a host of men whose lives
have been affected, from self-confessed ‘slammers’
to sexual health workers, each of whom talk
candidly about the pleasures and perils associated
with the scene. (LFF brochure)
A middle aged, middle class British couple are
living like feral creatures in a camouflaged hole in
the middle of a vast forest somewhere in France.
Less than a year ago, they lost everything in a
freak wildfire. Traumatised to the bone, the couple
vanished and ended up where they are. She does
not want to return to civilisation because only here
she feels she can make amends. Her husband, on
the other hand, finds the constant reminder of their
misfortune increasingly unbearable. The couple’s
relationship reaches breaking point and repressed
emotions come bursting out to the surface.

Don’t Look Down
Synopsis
Synopsis
Law student, and all round good guy Harper
suspects his stepfather Vincent of causing the
car crash that landed his mother in a coma. After
drowning his sorrows at a seedy bar one night,
he wakes up to the realisation that he may have
hired a hitman and his girlfriend to take out the
suspected perpetrator of his mother’s lifethreatening accident.
In the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, daredevil
entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson made an
audacious attempt to cross the Atlantic and Pacific
in the world’s largest hot air balloon. This film is a
personal revelation; a dramatic tale of survival and
drive. Branson recounts his experience with
uncanny vividity, and reveals how baiting death
forever changed him.

Eye in the Sky
Synopsis
In 1976, during the hottest summer on record, ‘Star
Wars’ was shot in suburban North London. Nobody
involved had any idea how big the film would
become, many couldn’t even remember the title.
Yet, for the extras and actors in smaller roles, their
faces hidden in masks and helmets, this seemingly
insignificant job would go on to colour their lives
even four decades later.
Synopsis
A timely thriller set in the world of remotely piloted
aircraft warfare. A terrorist-targeting drone mission
becomes a flashpoint when a civilian girl enters the

The Fear of 13
Florence Foster Jenkins
Synopsis
Synopsis
A Death Row inmate petitions the court asking
to be executed. As he goes on to tell his story, it
gradually becomes clear that nothing is quite what
it seems. ‘The Fear of 13’ is a stylistically daring
experiment in storytelling, a psychological thriller
constructed from a single four-day long interview.
In a monologue that is part confessional and part
performance, Nick, the sole protagonist, tells a
tale with all the twists and turns of classic crime
drama. But as the story unfolds, it reveals itself as
something much deeper, an emotionally powerful
meditation on the redemptive power of love and
literature. A final shocking twist casts everything in
a new light.
Based on the true story of the eponymous New
York heiress who obsessively pursued her dream
of becoming a great singer. The film celebrates the
human spirit, the power of music and the passion
of amateurs everywhere.

The voice Florence Foster Jenkins heard in her
head was divine, but to the rest of the world it was
hilariously awful. At private recitals, her devoted
‘husband’ and manager, St Clair Bayfield, managed
to protect Florence from the truth. But when
Florence decided to give her first public concert at
New York’s Carnegie Hall, St Clair realised he had
perhaps bitten off more than he could chew.

Gary Numan: Android
In La La Land
Genius
1st
Synopsis
At the end of the 1970s, Gary Numan found himself
to be one of the world’s biggest-selling recording
artists; ‘Are ‘Friends’ Electric?’ and ‘Cars’ were huge
hits, and no one had heard, or seen, anyone like
Gary Numan.
The Asperger’s syndrome that helped forge
Numan’s tunnel-like ambition, informing his music
and image, also brought problems. At a time when
the public knew little about the condition, the
press labeled him a freak, one paper suggested
his parents should have been doctored for giving
birth to him. Depression, anxiety, near bankruptcy
and a long period in the wilderness followed. Then
Numan fell in love with his biggest fan, Gemma,
who helped him rediscover his passion for music.

The Hard Stop
Heated Gloves
Synopsis
Synopsis
In August 2011, 29-year-old Mark Duggan was shot
and killed whilst being arrested by armed police in
Tottenham, London. This incident ignited a riot that
escalated into a week of the worst civil unrest in
recent British history.
Captain Maurice Seddon, an inventor and eccentric
in the great English tradition, made electrically
heated clothing for ‘paraplegics, sclerotics,
arthritics, rheumatics, the poor and landscape
painters’. The details of his extremely modest,
uncompromising way of life are here unpicked
through a rich weave of incredible archival TV
appearances from around the world (he featured
on amongst others, the David Letterman show) plus
very touching 16mm and mobile phone footage
shot by friend and director William English. ‘Heated
Gloves’ evokes Ben Rivers’ ‘Two Years at Sea’
and the Maysles brothers’ ‘Grey Gardens’, whilst
highlighting the codes of television reportage and
remaining in and of itself very special and unique –
just like its subject. (LFF brochure)
This film explores the life and death of Mark
Duggan, and features his childhood friends, Marcus
and Kurtis, as they struggle to come to terms with
the death of their friend - whilst also waiting to see
if the inquest into his shooting will provide them
with a satisfactory version of the truth.

High-Rise
The Host
Synopsis
Based on the novel by J. G. Ballard: London, 1975.
A slick apartment tower rises above the Thames,
the beginnings of what will soon become the
world’s biggest financial hub. Dominating the
landscape, it is simply called the HIGH-RISE... its
address a mark of exclusivity. Its newest resident
is Robert Laing, an ambitious young doctor
utterly seduced by the lifestyle and cuttingedge technology the high-rise has to offer. He is
introduced to the seedy underbelly of the high-rise
by Wilder, a charismatic provocateur. The cracks
in this apparently flawless society grow rapidly,
and Laing is shocked at the depravity he sees. Life
in the high-rise quickly descends into madness
and violence, and Laing finds himself amongst the
marauding hordes of bloodthirsty tenants who take
over the building, floor by floor.
Synopsis
While investigating her late parents’ involvement
with the Anglo Iranian Oil Company (BP), the
filmmaker comes across the letters of a petroleum
geologist in Iran in the 1930s who was later to
embark on a search for the origins of civilisation.
‘The Host’ sets out on its own exploration, to
decipher signs from the fragmented images buried
in the BP (British Petroleum) Archive. This journey
through the past interweaves a number of stories
drawn from both personal memory and the records
of an imperial history, which builds a picture of a
20th-century colonial encounter. ‘The Host’ is a
personal essay film about the stories we tell about
ourselves and others, the facts and fictions we live
by, and their consequences. (LFF brochure)

I Am Not a Serial Killer
The Idol (Ya Tayr El Tayer)
Synopsis
Synopsis
A young boy in Gaza, Mohammad Assaf, dreams
of singing in the Cairo Opera House with his sister
and best friend, Nour. One day, Nour collapses and
is rushed to the hospital where it is discovered
that she needs a kidney transplant. Nour leaves
Mohammad with a dying wish that someday, he will
sing in Cairo. Escaping from Gaza to Egypt against
unbelievable odds, Assaf makes the journey of a
lifetime. Directed by Academy Award® nominee
Hany Abu-Assad and based on the incredible true
story of Mohammad Assaf, the Gazan wedding
singer who became a worldwide sensation after
winning ‘Arab Idol’ in 2013.
Fifteen–year-old John Cleaver is dangerous, and he
knows it. He’s obsessed with serial killers, but really
doesn’t want to become one. Terrible impulses
constantly tempt him, so for his own sake, and the
safety of those around, he lives by rigid rules to
keep himself “good” and “normal”.
However when a real monster shows up in his
Midwestern hometown he has to let his dark side
out in order to stop it – but without his rules to
keep him in check, he might be more dangerous
than the monster he’s trying to kill.

Invention
Keep Quiet
Synopsis
Synopsis
Passionate in his anti-Semitic beliefs, Csanád
Szegedi was the rising star of Hungary’s far-right
party until he discovered his family’s secret – his
maternal grandparents were Jewish. The revelation
prompts an improbable but seemingly heartfelt
conversion from anti-Semite to Orthodox Jew.
Shot in Paris, São Paulo and Toronto, acclaimed
Canadian contemporary artist Mark Lewis’ essay
film captures the ever-changing textures of these
cities through moving images of glass, light,
shadows and reflections. Offering an homage
to the city symphony films of the 1920s, whilst
juxtaposing modernist architecture with the
compositional structures of old master paintings.
Toronto International Film Festival 2015
- World premiere
This confrontational film explores the complex and
contradictory character of Szegedi, prompting deep
questions about Szegedi’s supposed epiphany.

London Road
The Lovers and the Despot
Synopsis
A reimagining of the events that shook a rural
Suffolk town in 2006. The residents of London
Road, Ipswich had struggled for years with frequent
soliciting and kerb-crawling on their street. They
were further shattered when the bodies of five
murdered women were discovered nearby. When
a local resident was charged and then convicted
of the murders, the community grappled with what
it meant to be at the epicentre of this tragedy.
Using the residents’ own words set to an innovative
musical score, ‘London Road’ tells a moving story
of ordinary people coming together during the
darkest of experiences.

My Scientology Movie
Synopsis
Set in Egypt, Greece, Italy and the US, Anja
Kirschner’s piece reflects on the way psychological,
historical and material realities are connected
through the prism of the film-making progress
itself. Its main protagonists – a director and a
screenwriter – are in the early stages of developing
a commercial feature film, but soon their own
conflicting desires and the events simultaneously
occurring around them, take them far beyond their
initial intentions. Forced to radically reconfigure
her project, the director becomes more and more
drawn into conversations with the actors she has
cast, which centre on the way cinema intersects
with their own lives and gives expression to the
realities they are confronted with.

“I find that the most inexplicable behavior is
motivated by very relatable human impulses,”
comments Louis Theroux as he heads to
Los Angeles for this feature documentary, in
collaboration with director John Dower and
producer Simon Chinn, exploring the Church of
Scientology. Following a long fascination with the
religion and with much experience in dealing with
eccentric, unpalatable and unexpected human
behavior, the beguilingly unassuming Theroux
won’t take no for an answer when his request to
enter the Church’s headquarters is turned down.
Inspired by the Church’s use of filming techniques,
and aided by ex-members of the organisation,
Theroux uses actors to replay some incidents
people claim they experienced as members in an
attempt to better understand the way it operates.
In a bizarre twist, it becomes clear that the Church
is also making a film about Louis Theroux. Suffused
with a good dose of humour and moments worthy
of a Hollywood script, this true life film is stranger
than fiction.

The Program
Public House
Synopsis
Synopsis
The true story of the meteoric rise and fall of one of
the most celebrated and controversial sportsmen,
Lance Armstrong. Following a gruelling battle with
cancer, Armstrong returned to his cycling career in
1999 with his sights set firmly on winning the Tour
de France. With the help of the infamous Italian
physician Michele Ferrari and team director Johan
Bruyneel, he developed the most sophisticated
doping program in the history of the sport, allowing
Lance and his American teammates to dominate the
world of cycling, winning the Tour an unprecedented
seven times. However, not everyone believed the
fairytale... Sunday Times journalist David Walsh soon
began to question whether the ‘world’s greatest
athlete’ was in fact ‘clean’.
In 2012, the Ivy House pub in Peckham was sold
to property developers as part of the ongoing
gentrification of south London. The locals opposed
it. Unfolding from this scenario, the film weaves
verbatim testament into folk operatic form with
the Ivy House itself, embodied and imagined as a
central character and inhabited by the memories
of the generations who have passed through its
doors. Sarah Turner films the community’s creative
reanimation of the mourned pub through dance,
poetry and song... which both records and creates
a vision of social possibility... The activism that
saved the pub is a metaphor for social and creative
agency. This is not just a film about resistance;
it is a film that itself refuses categorisation... a
triumphant genre-blending documentary which
turns community action into an exhilarating
participatory opera. (LFF brochure)

A Quiet Passion
The Reflektor Tapes
1st
Synopsis
The story of American poet Emily Dickinson from
her early days as a young schoolgirl to her later
years as a reclusive, unrecognized artist. Dickinson
wrote a poem a day, but only a fraction of her
output was published throughout her lifetime. She
was extremely shy, but with a wry, lively sense of
humour and loved to laugh or to be made to laugh.
Her friendships were intense but it was within the
family that she found her greatest happiness. Her
life is one of quiet dignity. The poetry magnificent.
All the terror and beauty of the world distilled down
to the quintessence of meaning and expression.
Quite simply one of the world’s greatest poets.

The Seasons in Quincy: Four
Portraits of John Berger
1st
Synopsis
Synopsis
Based on the bestselling cult novel by Tom
McCarthy, the plot follows a young man who tries to
reconstruct his past out of fragmented memories.
His obsessive efforts are funded by a large financial
settlement for an accident he cannot remember,
but neither his friends nor he can anticipate the
extremes he will go to in realising his quest.
“The four essay films which comprise ‘The Seasons in
Quincy’ each take different aspects of British writer
and thinker John Berger’s life in the Haute-Savoie,
and combine ideas and motifs from Berger’s own
work with the atmosphere of his mountain home.
Each film was created as an individual work of art
but they combine to make a feature film... showing
how film can move beyond text, and beyond fine art,
to offer a multifaceted and multi-layered portrait.
These are more than documentary films – they are
exercises in thinking in film.” Derek Jarman Lab

Sherpa
The Sky Trembles and
The Earth Is Afraid...
Synopsis
Director Jennifer Peedom set out to uncover
tension in the 2014 Everest climbing season from
the point of view of the Sherpas, and instead
captured a tragedy when an avalanche struck,
killing 16 Sherpas. ‘Sherpa’ tells the story of how
the Sherpas united after the tragedy in the face of
fierce opposition to reclaim the mountain they call
Chomolungma.
Synopsis
‘The Sky Trembles and the Earth is Afraid and the
Two Eyes Are Not Brothers’ [the complete title of
this piece] is partially inspired by Paul Bowles’ story
“A Distant Episode”, and charts a mysterious
transformation from observational making-of to
inventive adaptation, shot against a staggering
Moroccan landscape. “Ben Rivers explores the
illusion of filmmaking in Morocco... The Moroccan
Sahara is littered with the legacy of films shot in
its dramatic vistas: abandoned sets that reveal the
artifice of filmmaking and trigger our recollection
of the half-imagined spaces of familiar films from
decades past.” (Artangel)

Stoneymollan Trail

Synopsis
Using the metaphor of the Stoneymollan Trail,
a hiking trail out of Glasgow, the film explores
Charlotte Prodger’s personal archive, with material
from multiple formats that includes an archive of
miniDV tapes that Prodger shot between 1999
and 2004, recent footage shot on her iPhone and
HD camera, and screenprinted graphic forms. The
resulting single-screen video piece is a meditation
on memory, subjectivity and desire.
Synopsis
The story of the footsoldiers of the early feminist

Sunset Song
Tiger Raid
1st
Synopsis
Synopsis
Set in the early 20th century, ‘Sunset Song’ begins
with the suicide attempt of a poverty stricken
woman in Scotland, broken by repeated childbirths,
who kills herself and poisons her twin babies.
The story follows one of the woman’s surviving
daughters, Chris Guthrie, who must manage the
farm after her mother’s death, and, after her
father, who has had a stroke, becomes bedridden.
But when love comes to Chris, she must send her
man off to the Great War and manage the farm in
a land about to be changed forever by the onset
of technology and war. How can we bear time, or
subdue nature? We cannot. We can only endure...
Two mercenaries ride a wave of pitch black
camaraderie as they travel through the desert night
on their way to carry out a kidnapping in Iraq.

Tommy’s Honour
Uncle Howard
Synopsis
In every generation, a torch passes from father
to son. And that timeless dynamic is the beating
heart of ‘Tommy’s Honour’. The intimate, powerfully
moving tale of Tom Morris and his son Tommy, the
real-life nineteenth century founders of the modern
game of golf. Set in St. Andrews, Scotland, during the
hidebound Victorian era, the story opens in 1866 as
15-year-old Tommy Morris heads to the links with his
father Tom Morris... Already a legend, Tom Morris has
secured his place in the history of the ancient game.
Tommy, blessed with talent and fuelled by ambition,
chafes at his father’s commands as he hurtles toward
adulthood. He will soon outshine him. Tensions rise,
and father and son clash over the sport and the
unwritten rules of social class.
Synopsis
When Howard Brookner lost his life to AIDS in
1989, the 35-year-old director had completed two
feature documentaries and was in post-production
on his narrative debut, ‘Bloodhounds of Broadway’.
Twenty-five years later, his nephew, Aaron, sets out
on a quest to find the lost negative of ‘Burroughs:
The Movie’, his uncle’s critically-acclaimed portrait
of legendary author William S. Burroughs. When
Aaron uncovers Howard’s extensive archive in
Burroughs’ bunker, it not only revives the film for a
new generation, but also opens a vibrant window
on New York City’s creative culture from the 1970s
and ‘80s, and inspires a wide-ranging exploration of
his beloved uncle’s legacy.

Who’s Gonna Love Me Now?
Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight
For Freedom
Synopsis
Synopsis
Saar is a gay man from a religious family in Israel.
After being kicked out of his conservative kibbutz
because of his sexual orientation, Saar flees to
London where he enjoys a gay lifestyle denied
to him in Israel. He lives the dream, but wakes up
to a nightmare when he discovers that he has
contracted HIV. When he breaks the news to his
family, they struggle with fears and prejudices.
With the support and warmth of Saar’s surrogate
brothers - the London Gay Men’s Chorus - he begins
a reconciliation process with his biological family
in Israel. Saar finds himself torn between the two
worlds and must make a decision: should he return
to Israel and embrace his family once more, or stay
in London and live in exile forever. Saar and the rest
of the London Gay Men’s Chorus provide a glorious
soundtrack for this tender, honest and intimate film
by acclaimed directors Barak Heymann and Tomer
Heymann (‘Mr. Gaga’, ‘Paper Dolls’ and ‘I Shot My
Love’). Shot over several years, this documentary is
about the power of forgiveness and the power that
home has, no matter how far we go.
A visceral, in-depth look at the bloody Ukrainian
uprising in Kiev’s Maidan Square in the winter of
2013-14 that resulted in the removal of the Russianbacked President Viktor Yanukovych.

gorgeous, fun loving and ready for the holiday of a
lifetime in Mexico. When the opportunity to go cage
diving to view Great White sharks presents itself,
thrill-seeking Kate jumps at the chance while Lisa
takes some convincing. After some not so gentle

all trips soon becomes a living nightmare when the

The Autopsy of Jane Doe
In Post-production
Synopsis
An epic journey, at the heart of which is the majestic
element, water. Filming from an iceberg as it
ruptures from a polar ice sheet and traverses the
open sea, we experience the beauty of this essential
life-giving element as well as its shattering power.
An odyssey around the globe and a thrilling visual
symphony, combining light and water, exploring the
range of human emotions.
“…through the natural lens of water you can see,
experience and feel the ebb and flow of all known
human emotions – anger, aggression, peacefulness,
nobility, loneliness, jealousy…everything! …I want to
film every possible emotion that can be experienced
whilst interacting with water: beautiful emotions
along with horrible ones. Ecstasy and inspiration,
destruction and human devastation.”
Victor Kossakovsky

B&B
Bobby
1st
In Post-production
Synopsis
Synopsis
Gay Londoners Mike and Fred, plan a weekend of
mischief returning to bait the prosecuted Christian
owner of a remote B&B (bed and breakfast hotel).
The year before they had successfully sued the
owner for not allowing them to share a double
bed. Events take a deadly turn when another guest
arrives who they think might have something more
sinister in mind.
Marking the 50th anniversary of England’s
victory in the 1966 World Cup, ‘Bobby’ explores
the remarkable true story of English footballing
legend and World Cup-winning Captain, Bobby
Moore. Footballer, father, cultural icon and
footballing legend. Moore was a hero to successive
generations of footballers and football fans alike,
described by Pele as the best defender he ever
played against. Moore fought many battles besides
those witnessed by millions on the football field.
Behind the glory lies the story of a man who faced
highs and lows with the same strength and bravery.
But he died young, cruelly shunned by the game
and by the very people who owed him so much.
The story is told by his two wives, his friends
and fans, including Pele, Sir Geoff Hurst and Ray
Winstone, whose words are mixed with previously
unseen archive footage. A powerful, dramatic and
deeply personal portrait of a genuine footballing
icon.

Deep Water
Denial
In Post-production
Synopsis
Based on the incredible true story of amateur sailor
Donald Crowhurst, and his attempt to win the first
single-handed round-the-world yacht race in 1968.
Crowhurst entered the Sunday Times Golden Globe
race, partly as an opportunity to publicise a new
navigation device he had been working on. He
fitted another of his inventions, a stability system,
to his untested trimaran and set off to on his solo
mission to circumnavigate the globe. Leaving his
family behind, his inexperience and loneliness found
him confronted with dramatic struggles and acute
isolation alone on the high seas. A haunting tale of a
man going to sea and the family he leaves behind.

David Irving detailed in Deborah E. Lipstadt’s
acclaimed book ‘History on Trial: My Day in Court
with a Holocaust Denier’.
Lipstadt mounted a legal battle for historical truth
against David Irving, who accused her of libel when
she declared him a Holocaust Denier. In the English
legal system, the burden of proof is on the accused;
therefore, it was up to Lipstadt and her legal team
to prove the essential truth that the Holocaust
happened.

Synopsis
A new take on the coming-of-age story set against
the backdrop of bohemian London. Drifting through
his gap year with its internships and travel plans,
Jack (Will Poulter) has always suspected there was
more to life than this. A chance encounter with the
beautiful and ethereal Evelyn (Alma Jodorowsky)
swerves his life radically off course. She is like no
one he’s ever met before. He quickly becomes
caught up in a whirlwind of all-day parties and wild
nights in London’s hidden dives with Evelyn and her
charismatic friends.
Giving up everything to follow Evelyn and her
hedonistic lifestyle, it takes Jack a while to realise
what he’s leaving behind, that love isn’t a game you
want to lose, and that these people might not be the
kindred spirits he first thought they were.

Synopsis
Synopsis
A sci-fi action thriller set in a near future,
technology-reliant society that pits man against
killing machines.
Trapped in a loveless marriage of convenience, a
headstrong young woman decides to create her
own destiny...
Against this backdrop an elite army unit is
helicoptered to a remote, off-the-grid island training
facility. What starts out as a simple training exercise
for Captain Bukes and his tight-knit unit, descends
into a terrifying battle to the death, as the marines
discover the island is overrun by an enemy that
transcends the human concept of evil.
Rural England, 1865. Katherine (Florence Pugh)
is stifled by her loveless marriage to a bitter
man twice her age, whose family are cold and
unforgiving. When she embarks on a passionate
affair with a young worker on her husband’s estate,
a force is unleashed inside her, so powerful that
she will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

lecherous Sir Edward, to the dashing, feckless

Synopsis
“What you end up remembering isn’t always the
same as what you have witnessed.”
Tony Webster is retired. Looking back over his quiet
life — a career, a marriage, a daughter, an amicable
divorce — he’s certain that at the very least he
never tried to hurt anyone. Memories, though, can
be misleading as an unexpected and explosive
letter from the days of his careless youth is about
to prove…

Synopsis
Young Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin and poet Percy
Shelley are outsiders, constrained by polite society
but bound together by a natural chemistry and
progressive ideas that are beyond the boundaries
of their age and time. Mary and Percy declare their
love for each other and much to her family’s horror
elope together, joined by Mary’s half sister Claire. At
Lord Byron’s house at Lake Geneva Mary conceives
the idea of ‘Frankenstein’ when a challenge is
put to all house guests to write a ghost story. An
incredible character is created, but society at the
time puts little value in a woman writing such a
literary masterpiece, and Mary at the tender age of
18 is forced to challenge this society to protect her
monster and forge her own identity.

Synopsis
An original gangster movie set across three
generations of the rowdy Cutler family.
An artist falls for a young married woman while
he’s commissioned to paint her portrait during the
tulip mania of 17th century Amsterdam. The lovers

for tulip bulbs to fund their escape.
The Cutlers live as outlaws in some of Britain’s

Cutler ends up caught between his father’s archaic
principles and trying to do right by his kids, whilst

Versus: The Life and Films
of Ken Loach
Viceroy’s House
Synopsis
Synopsis
Documentary focusing on the work, both on screen
and off, of director Ken Loach. Revolving around the
‘battles’ linked to his long filmographyranging from
the campaign to combat homelessness prompted
by the 1966 film ‘Cathy Come Home’, to a right-wing
press backlash over the Palme d’Or win for ‘The
Wind That Shakes The Barley’ in 2006, to a fight with
the censors over the language in ‘Sweet Sixteen’.
Viceroy’s House in Delhi was the glorious home of
the British rulers of India. For six months in 1947,
Lord Mountbatten assumed the post of the last
Viceroy, charged with returning India to its people.
Mountbatten lived upstairs together with his wife
and daughter. Downstairs lived their 5,000 Hindu,
Muslim and Sikh servants. As the political elite
took their seats upstairs to wrangle over the birth
of independent India and what was to become
Partition, conflict erupted throughout the House.
In a moment of history that demands to be wider
understood, a catastrophic decision was taken that
continues to shake our world.
A provocative and revealing account of the life
and career of one of Britain’s foremost filmmakers,
produced as he turns eighty, looking back at over
fifty years of filmmaking.

White Island
The White King
1st
Synopsis
A comic thriller with dark undertones and a big
heart, set on the island of Ibiza. When Connor’s
best friend becomes innocently embroiled in the
plans of a gang in Ibiza, Connor is the only one
who can help him, but it means returning to the
island where he worked a few years earlier, and has
avoided since the tragic death of another friend.
Once back, Connor is reunited with Leo, his former
boss and mentor. A 60 year old American draft
dodger turned hippy. Only thing is, Leo is trying to
kill himself. Amongst the mayhem of exploding villas,
underwater drops and the attractions of a gorgeous
diving instructor, Connor and Leo’s journeys teach
them some valuable life lessons. For Leo it is that
every day is precious. For Connor, that his life in
London is not as perfect as it seems, and that if he
deals with his past, there is only one place he’ll ever
be truly happy... Ibiza. All he has to do is stay alive
long enough to enjoy it.
