Many a time have we found ourselves complaining about the numerous jampacked junctions in the city. The noise and the chaos, the impatience to
reach our destination and the frustration at being slowed down have irked
us to no end.
Yet, if only we had the time to stand and stare, we would hear the music amidst
the noise of the honks and tap our feet to the rhythm of the impatient beating
hearts; we would find order in the chaos and feel uncannily calm amidst the
tumult.
Malhar 2016 invites you to discover this very latent beauty of a junction. It
beckons to you to take a moment off from your busy schedules in order to
witness the vibrancy of a junction that is nothing but an amalgamation of
cultures, a mélange of traditions, of lives, and cross-roads filled with dreams
and aspirations. .

MALHAR GUIDELINES
We request you to follow these regulations:
yy Please do not carry sharp objects, inflammable objects and/or any
other objects that are potentially dangerous.
yy Please do not carry any beverages with alcoholic content.
yy Please do not carry or attempt to sell any narcotics, drugs,
cigarettes or addictive of any sort.
yy Any misbehaviour on part of the participants or visitors will lead to
expulsion from the premises and will reflect on their college.
yy Anything that can be perceived as being offensive to any
national/religious sentiments or gender will lead to immediate
disqualification.
yy If contingents wish to bring their props in a truck, these trucks must
reach college before 8 am on all days.
yy Kindly note that participants are not permitted to leave the venue
between the various rounds of an event.
yy A member of the Malhar staff committee is allowed access to all
venues, at any point of time.
yy Please bear in mind that all the venues are subject to change.
yy Malhar passes are NOT for sale.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S
DESK
Hello Reader(s) of Malhar 2016’s RnR,
Malhar 2016 is about celebrating the meeting of cultures, the convergence of
divergent views through debates and deliberations as well as the stage where talent
is flaunted, spotted and appreciated.
In this prelude-like piece, I share with you the vision, mission and passion behind every
Malhar. All our Malhars have been influenced and tempered by the Jesuit pedagogy,
which focuses on the all-round development of both the teacher and the taught.
This inspiration has made Malhar, morph from being just a ‘cultural festival’ into a
confluence of activities which include:
yy Social Outreach: through which the workforce meaningfully engages with
harsh social realities of the common man.
yy Conclave: through which socio-econ-politico paradigms are critically
deliberated, evaluated and challenged.
yy Ecological Sensitization: through which plastic is shunned, the use of water
and electricity are minimized and decibel levels are reduced significantly.
We hope that both, you and we, become richer beings through the mutual sharing of
visions and insights at Malhar 2016.

SOCIAL CAUSE
YARDSALE
The Yardsale was an initiative started by Malhar organizing commitee
a couple of years ago, as a means of giving back to the community
and making a difference. This year we’ve decided to take it up a notch
by not only having two Yardsales but also including the contingents to
donate for this worthy cause.
THE FOOD JUNCTION
“Roti, kapda aur makaan” – are the three basic necessities of human life
as told by Manoj Kumar. It does not delude us that being the privileged
few of Society; it is our moral obligation to give back these necessities
to those who fall short of them in any way that we can. Thus, in keeping
with what Malhar and St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai stand for, we bring
to you – The Food Junction, Malhar’s Social Cause for 2016.
Pehchan is an NGO that we at Malhar have tied up with this year. To its
initiative of empowering citizens and giving them shelter and an identity,
we have decided to lend our helping hand. Our focus is to provide the
Pehchan and its wonderful people with a hearty meal and more.
Why?
We at Malhar, believe that everyone is equally entitled to a nutritious
meal and are doing everything in our power to tip the scales of
privilege back into equilibrium.
How do we do it?
Malhar 2016 has tied up with food sponsors that will arrange for a
group of disadvantaged children a wholesome lunch, which will be
served to them on August 4th, 2016 by the workforce of Malhar.

KEYNOTE ADDRESS
Every year Conclave brings to you a visionary, an inspiration and a stimulant of
retrospection, all in 60 minutes through its Keynote address. Having hosted eminent
dignitaries in the past such as HH the Dalai Lama, Dr. Raghuram Rajan, Dr. APJ Abdul
Kalam and NR Narayana Murthy among numerous others, Conclave promises you
an hour of contemplative cognizance through an iconic individual who leads by
example.
CARDS ON THE TABLE
INTERVIEW SESSION
How often does one have the opportunity to hear an exemplar’s anecdotes from the
very individual? The intricacies in the making of a life of meritorious feats, the stories
and the experiences, the ordeals and the glories, often go unheard and unseen.
Conclave brings to you a no holds barred session with a prolific personality in what
will indeed be a mélange of ideas, opinions and experiences.
PARADIGM SHIFT
INTERACTIVE SESSIONS
A game changer, an innovator and one who dares to defy convention, Conclave
this year gives you an opportunity to understand the nuances of such norm altering
outlooks. Through a zealous interaction with the audience these speakers will ignite
minds, inspiring every listener to take the road less travelled to achieve the unthinkable.
PANEL DISCUSSION
In a country as diverse and as vast as India, is every voice truly heard? How does one
ensure that each of these individuals get their due and fulfil their responsibility in what
is the world’s largest democracy. The panel discussion at Conclave will touch upon
the issues faced by this country and its impact on the very basis of a democracy, its
people and will bring to light a host of issues which are faced by the common man.

EVENTS
ADMINISTRATION
Admin as a department primarily manages the back office work. This is
what that means:
Contingent leaders starting a rebellion? Call admin.
Issue with the scoring sheets? Admin to the rescue.
Need your prize bag? Admin will get it for you.
Need an extra pass? Issue with registration? The real stars, working hard
behind the scenes, it’s Admin that keeps the wheels both turning and
smoothly greased. Whatever the issue, they’ll be there.
TERMINOLOGY
Contingent
Leader (CL)
The CL is the official college representative
and fulfils the registration and other duties.
He/She cannot participate in events. It is
mandatory for a contingent to have a CL.
Assistant
Contingent
Leader (ACL)
The ACL aids the CL to fulfil his duties whenever
he is preoccupied. The ACL can participate in
events. A college must assign a minimum of one
and a maximum of three ACLs.
Contingent
Accompanist
(CA)
The CA is required for specific events and
the number required differs with every event.
However, they cannot change from Eliminations
to Finals.
Prize Bag
Collector (PBC)
An individual who is solely responsible for
collecting the certificates (participant and
winner) AND prize bags of the winners of their
college. A CL or an ACL cannot be a PBC.
PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY
Only undergraduate students are allowed to take part in Malhar.
However, junior college students are eligible if they have an attached
undergraduate wing.

TYPES OF REGISTRATIONS
Contingent
Represents a particular college. Registrations
to be done online.
PRNC (PreRegistered NonContingent)
They do not represent any college i.e. their
points are not added to their college. Intercollege or intra-college teams can participate.
Registrations to be done online.
OTSE (On-TheSpot-Entry)
Participants do not represent any college and
registrations are to be done on the days of
Malhar at the registration desk of the event.
Inter-college or intra-college teams can
participate. Points awarded are not added to
any college(s).
ONLINE REGISTRATION FOR
CONTINGENTS
In the spirit of a paperless and eco-friendly Malhar, event registrations
will be done through online forms. Separate links to register for local
colleges, outstation colleges and PRNCs will be put up on the Malhar
website- www.malharfest.org.
The Contingent Leader (CL) should register his/her college by
accessing the Registration Form provided on the Malhar website.
The time period for registering online is from the 21st of July,
2016 to the 27th of July, 2016.

Step 1:
Type the UID of your respective college, allowing you to access
the form. The UID can be found on the first page of the RnR of your
respective college.
Step 2:
Fill in your college details, Contingent Leader details and Assistant
Contingent Leader details.
Step 3:
Check the boxes indicating the events you want to participate in.
After each department, indicate the number of events that you are
participating in under that particular department.
Step 4:
Under every event, there will be submission fields for props and other
event-specific requirements that you are required to fill in case you are
participating in that event.
Step 5:
For trump events, check the box indicating your preference.
Step 6:
After the form is submitted, a follow up email will be sent with the
confirmed details along with a link to edit the submission. Edits should
be made by 11:59 pm, 27th July, 2016.
However, please note that registration for the Malhar MUN
will take place through a separate link given on the website
(www.malharfest.org). This is applicable for contingents as
well as PRNCs.

FORM VERIFICATION DAY
Guidelines:
yy In addition to the online form, there is an Authorisation Letter
attached to the end of the Rules and Regulations booklet. This
letter is an authorisation from the Principal/Authority of the college
granting permission to the contingent to participate in Malhar. It
must be duly filled and submitted on the Form Verification Day. It
must contain the Principal’s signature, college stamp and the CL’s
signature.
yy A scanned copy of this has to be sent to admin@malharfest.
org on/before the 31st of July,2016.
yy A passport size scanned copy of photograph of the CL, ACL(s)
and the PBC must be sent along with the Authorization Letter.
yy The college will be registered only upon completion of the online
registration form, submission of the authorisation letter and the
pictures of the respective representatives.
yy The CL and the ACL(s) will be provided with badges on the first
day of Malhar.
yy The light and sound demonstration will be held on the Form
Verification day.

ONLINE REGISTRATION
FOR PRE-REGISTERED NONCONTINGENTS (PRNCS)
yy The PRNC system is used for participants that are not part of the
college contingent. Only certain specific events are kept open to
PRNCs and they need to register beforehand, akin to a college
contingent.
yy PRNCs do not earn any points for their college.
yy Winners will be awarded prizes and certificates.
yy PRNCs can register themselves online on the official Malhar website.
The online form will be active from 28th July, 2016 to 30th July,
2016.
yy Participants are required to produce a valid college photo ID from
the current academic year, before the event, during registration. In
the absence of an ID card, a fee receipt from the college of the
current academic year along with valid government-issued photo
ID proof must be presented, failing which the participant(s) will not
be registered.
yy PRNCs can register themselves; the presence of a CL/ACL is not
required.
yy It is imperative that the minimum number of participants/ CAs be
fulfilled.
yy PRNC slots will vary from event to event. PRNCs will be
registered on a first come, first serve basis only.

REGISTRATION FOR ON-THESPOT ENTRIES (OTSES)
Procedure for Registrations on
FINAL DAYS of MALHAR
yy Only certain specific events have slots open for OTSEs.
yy OTSEs carry no points for the contingent.
yy Winners will be awarded prizes and certificates.
yy Cross-college OTSEs are permitted.
yy OTSEs can register themselves at the event venue at the
registration desk (45 minutes prior to the commencement of the
event); the presence of a CL/ACL is not required.
yy Participants are required to produce a valid college photo ID from
the current academic year, before the event, during registration. In
the absence of an ID card, a fee receipt from the college of the
current academic year along with valid government-issued photo
ID proof must be presented, failing which the participant(s) will not
be registered.
yy The minimum number of participants/CAs required must be fulfilled.
yy OTSE slots will vary from event to event. OTSEs will be
registered on a first come, first serve basis only.
yy Only the CL/ACL(s) can register participants. Kindly note that in
the absence of the CL and/or ACL, the contingent will not be
registered for that particular event.
yy While registering their participants, the CL/ACL(s) must produce the
badges provided to them beforehand, along with a valid college
photo identity of himself/herself, participant(s) and the CA(s).
yy All ID proof must be from the current academic year.
yy In the absence of an ID card, a fee receipt from the college of the
current academic year along with valid government-issued photo
ID proof must be presented, failing which, the team will not be
registered.
yy The minimum number of participants/Contingent Accompanists
(CAs) required per event must be adhered to.
yy All participants and CAs must be present at the time of registration.
The contingent will not be registered until every participant and CA
is present.
yy No substitutes are allowed. Any request with respect to
substitutes for participants and/or CAs will not be entertained.
yy Non-college accompanists or cross-college accompanists are not
allowed for a registered college contingent.
Please Note: Participants are not allowed to leave the campus in
between two rounds.

REGISTRATION VENUES AND
TIMINGS
yy The registration desk will open 45 minutes before an event and will
shut 10 minutes after the event has started.
yy The registration venue will be mentioned in the Malhar schedule
mailed to the participating colleges. A physical copy of the same
will also be given.
yy Registration will take place at the event venue, unless specified
otherwise.
yy All participants must be present at the security gates at least an
hour and a half before their event is scheduled to begin.
RULES TO BE FOLLOWED AT THE
REGISTRATION VENUE
yy At the venue of the event, there will be two desks employed for
registration- the Admin desk and the Events desk, both of which will
be clearly labelled.
yy Participants are required to register with the Admin desk first.
After registering with Admin, they should proceed to the Events
desk. If participants register with the Events desk first, it will not
be considered valid, as registration with Admin is a prerequisite
for event registrations. Therefore, adherence to these norms is
mandatory.
yy The Admin desk is in charge of checking all identification
requirements and details of the participants, and the Events desk is
in charge of providing slots and checking event requirements.
yy During registration, participants are requested to maintain decorum
and be patient. Any inappropriate behaviour on their behalf may
result in the entire registration for the event being halted and
consequently, delayed.

CERTIFICATES
yy Participation certificates will be awarded to the teams who qualify
from the Eliminations to the Finals.
yy Certificates will be awarded to winners, in addition to their
participation certificates.
yy PBC’s are required to collect the participation and winner
certificates for their contingents from the Admin room on the 17th
of August. They will be entitled to collect them only on the display
of the PBC badge and a government approved photo ID proof.
After the 17th of August, the Malhar committee will not issue any
certificates.
yy The deadline for collecting the prizes is 17th August, 4 pm from the
Seminar Room. Post this date, prizes will be forfeited.
yy PRNCs and OTSEs are expected to follow the same system, that is,
they are expected to collect their certificates from the Admin room,
upon presenting valid ID proof.
GENERAL SCORING
yy + 1 for registering for an event (ticking the box next to the event
name).
yy - 2 for NOT TURNING UP for Eliminations after registering.
yy +2 for qualifying from the Eliminations to the Finals.
yy - 4 for NOT TURNING UP for finals after qualifying from the
Eliminations.
yy - 4 for NOT TURNING UP for a CONCLAVE event for the
Eliminations and/or Finals rounds.
PLEASE NOTE: Outstation contingents get a direct final entry for all the
events except for the Literary Arts Events. The Elimination round for the
Literary Arts Events will be help on 14th August, 2016.

Department Wise Scoring
Flagship Events
The following points are awarded to the teams placing 1st, 2nd and
3rd respectively:
Every department has one event that carries the maximum number of
points. These are called Flagship Events. The scoring system is as follows:
yy 1st place: 15 points

Trump Events
Every college may wager on the events that they think their contingent
will win.
In case you trump on an event and you place anywhere in the top
3 positions, you will be awarded an additional 5 points to the
respective event score.
There will be no negative marking for choosing to trump and not
placing. You can indicate your choices in the space provided for the
same at the end of the registration form.
PLEASE NOTE
If the judge does not mark a particular criterion it will be
considered as zero.
If a judge marks a particular team twice for the same criteria, the
higher score will be considered.
IN CASE OF A TIE
Please note the following situations given below (exclusive of Direct
Finals Event & Flagship Events)
1. There is a tie for 1st place:
We add the total Eliminations score for the two particular tied teams
for that event.

Therefore, Finals Score = Total Eliminations Score + Total Finals Score
Between the two teams who tied for 1st place, the higher one will place
1st and the lower one will place 2nd.
In the Final list of scores, the team that originally places 2nd will now
place 3rd.
The team that originally places 3rd will now not be a part of the winners
list.
2. There is a tie for 2nd place:
We add the total Eliminations score for the two particular tied teams
for that event.
Therefore, Finals Score = Total Eliminations Score + Total Finals Score
Between the two teams who tied for 2nd place, the higher one will
place 2nd and the lower one will place 3rd.
The team that originally places 3rd will now not be a part of the winners
list.
3. There is a tie for 3rd place:
We add the total Eliminations score for the two particular tied teams for
that event to their Score for the Final Round.
Therefore, Finals Score = Total Eliminations Score + Total Finals Score
Between the two teams who tied for 3rd place, the higher one will
place 3rd and the lower one will place 4th.
The team that comes 4th after the addition of the Eliminations score will
now not be a part of the winners list.
*PLEASE NOTE THE ADDITION OF THE ELIMINATIONS SCORES
TO THE SCORES OF AN EVENT FOR THE FINAL ROUND WILL
ONLY BE DONE IN CASE OF A TIE.
For the following three situations ONLY, please find below the order of
placing and scoring:

Each team will be awarded full points for an event and will be placed
as follows:
yy If there is a tie for 1st place, the following is the order for the winners

TRANSPARENCY
yy On both, the Eliminations and the Final Days, score sheets will be
put on display in The Economics Department, near the Admin Office
(first floor, St. Xavier’s College).
yy Taking photographs of the score sheets is not allowed.
yy They will be displayed an hour after the event has ended and
will remain on display only for an hour after that. An event will be
considered to be over only when the judge score-sheets reach LR
14.
yy ONLY the CL/ACL(s) can check the score sheets and will be
entertained with respect to any queries regarding transparency
and viewing of score sheets. You are requested to be courteous
and respectful of the same.
yy OTSEs and PRNCs will be allowed to check their scores only on
the display of their college ID card or by displaying the fee receipt
along with a valid government approved photo ID proof. However,
only one person from the team is allowed to check the scores.
yy At any given point of time, there will only be one person in the
Transparency room to check the scores.
yy Once a session is over, score sheets of events for that session will
not be put on display again.

yy The Outstation Trophy is awarded to the outstation college
collecting the maximum points.
yy In case of a tie, the colleges with equal points will share the trophy.
TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATION
yy With regards to accommodation, our Externals sub-department of
Hospitality is in-charge. (Refer to Pg. 81 for more details.)
yy Please note that each contingent must send a list of participants
and other members beforehand to avoid any issues with regards to
accommodation. Last minute changes will not be entertained.
yy After confirming your participation, contingents will receive their
options for accommodation through mail.
yy Travel reimbursements are available upon the time of online
registration. All the necessary documents regarding the same will be
informed. (Refer to Pg. 77 for more details.)
TROPHY SYSTEM
yy The Malhar Trophy is awarded to the contingent with the highest
cumulative score of all the events.
yy In addition to the overall winners, first runner up and second runner
up trophy, there are 4 sub trophies, namely, the Conclave trophy,
the Fine Arts Trophy, the Literary Arts Trophy and the Performing
Arts Trophy (inclusive of IPA and WPA Events.) These trophies are
awarded to the contingent securing the highest scores for events

ADMIN OFFICE
The admin office will be located in LR 14 on all days of Malhar
(Eliminations and Finals). Entry to the admin office is restricted. The
organising committee will not entertain any intervention by staff
members belonging to any participating contingent. Only a CL/ACL
will be entertained with regard to a discussion of any sort.
CONCLAVE
All rules are subject to change at the discretion of the
organising committee.
Any changes in the rules and regulations will be informed to the
CLs beforehand.
An online copy of the Rules and Regulations booklet and the
CL minutes will be made available on the Malhar website.

At this year’s Conclave, a voice shall be given to all dimensions of

MALHAR MUN
JUDGEMENT CRITERIA:
As Malhar Conclave’16, we are pleased to welcome
you to the Malhar MUN.
The event will be a two day event comprising of one
Committee- The United Nations General AssemblyType 3; SOCHUM- Social, Humanitarian and Cultural.
General Assembly (GA) is the main deliberative organ
of United Nations (UN) and it has six main committees.
Social, Humanitarian & Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) is
3rd Committee of the General Assembly. SOCHUM is an
United Nations body designated to focus on preserving
human rights and implementing fundamental freedoms all
around the world. SOCHUM works in cooperation with
the United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC)
and Economical and Social Committee (ECOSOC).
While focusing on human rights issues, SOCHUM’s
agenda includes advancement of women, right to
self-determination, protection of children, conditions
of refugees, elimination of racism, maintenance of
international peace and social development.
The objective of this two day event will be to deliberate
upon a social and humanitarian issue, which concerns
the masses. The agenda will be communicated to the
delegates, well in advance.

3D DESIGN EVENT
A true modern day fusion situation - an event with art
that transcends date and time, we bring you the Folk
art event. Participants will have to depict a modern day
scenario incorporating Indian folk art. It’s the perfect
way to honour Indian art styles with the just the right
contemporary twist.
Remember being a kid and playing pretend? Making
entire houses out of whatever was around? Oh, to be a
child and to be that creative. Fortunately for everyone
who’s missed that spontaneous creativity, we have an
event for you! Construct objects with materials provided
to you on the spot.

In this event, participants will have to depict a modern

and white characters into colourful backgrounds.

Participants are required to choose either the Hindustani
or the Carnatic style of Indian classical musicand perform

Participants must choose a social issue/problem as a
theme of their play from the list that will be given.
One participant of the contingent must be the social
issue/problem himself/herself. In addition, they must
include the name of the event- “Aakhir Kehna Kya
Chahte Ho?” as a dialogue in their play.
Through the play, participants MUST educate the
audience regarding the social issue by agitating
against it &/or suggesting effective ways to tackle the
issue/problem.
They must also include a Jaagran Jingle, lasting for at

DISQUALIFICATION
CRITERIA
These criterias are applicable to all the events.
DISQUALIFICATION:
MINUS 30 FROM THE OVERALL SCORE OF
THE CONCERNED EVENT:
yy Exceeding the specified time set down for the event by the
Organising committee at OCs discretion
yy Turning up late for an event and any activity that leads to delaying
of the overall registation process or schedule of any event
yy Any form of PLAGIARISM.
yy Engaging in any form of vulgarity, profanity and obscenity.
yy Any action, which is politically, culturally, sexually, and socially
offensive
yy Faliure to clean up the performance area after littering it during the
performance
yy Inappropriate or vulgar attire
PLEASE NOTE:
yy Taking help from external sources, including the usage of any kind
of electronic devices
yy Not following the given list of items,props,materials,artists and topics
set down by the Organising committee in CL minutes
With regard to slotting of events and overlapping participants,
people participating in multiple events is at the contingent’s
risk.The Organising Committee will not make special provision
or hold spots for any particular contingent if all participants for
that event are not present with their CL/ACL. (And in full costume
when required)
yy Not adhering to the script,lyrics,props,topics or event related
content submitted on form verification day,with vulgar, profane or
obsene content.
Any Negative Marking or Disqualification is at the discretion of
the Organising Committee.
yy Any form of distortion with strong reference to Performing Art events
yy Fighting,Squabbling,Arguing,Inappropriate/vulgar language
and any form of aggression towards refrees, quizmasters,
moderators,workforce members,other contingents,event conductors
staff/faculty members of the host college
yy Damage to college property with or without intention of doing so.

provided must be returned in the condition that they were originally
presented to the participants. Additional standard props will be
provided if the department organising the event deems it necessary.

MANAGEMENT
SECURITY
IDENTIFICATION:
College ID card of the present academic year or a fee receipt along
with valid government issued photo ID proof.
FORM VERIFICATION MEET AND THE
PROP LIST:
At this meet, the Props List submitted on the online contingent form will
be verified.
On the days of Malhar, Security does not allow certain items inside the
college premises to ensure the safety of all the people in the campus.
Certain items are strictly prohibited and are confiscated at the gates.
To avoid confiscation of your belongings, please refer the given
Banned Items List.
Security ensures your safety and well-being during your time at Malhar.
From checking at the gates to movement of people inside college,
all of it is handled by Security. Besides procuring certain licenses for
Malhar, Security’s smiling faces are the first you see as you enter and
the last you see you leave.

yy Drugs, pipes, rolling/smoking paper
yy Cigarettes, lighters, match boxes, candles
yy Any harmful, pointed or sharp objects – knives, blades, pen knives,
Swiss knives, scissors, unpacked mirror, nail cutters, metal forks
yy Geometry boxes with compasses and dividers, steel rulers

yy Deodorants and perfumes
yy Laptops and cameras (only batteries are confiscated)

Items that are not mentioned in the above list will be confiscated by
Security if they are deemed unsafe.

Avoid carrying valuable items as the college will not be held responsible
for their loss.
TECHNICALS
If a banned item is absolutely necessary for an event, the CLs
and the ACL(s) will have to ensure that the item is mentioned in
the Prop List with a justifiable explanation.
The Prop List shall be verified by Security, or participation shall not be
allowed.
ON MALHAR ELIMS AND FINALS:
yy All participants will have to carry their individual college ID cards.
The college ID cards or fee receipts of the present academic
year, along with government approved photo identification will
be required for entry on the days of Eliminations and Final days of
Malhar.
yy Entrance will not be granted to choreographers and makeup
artists, unless they have been registered as CAs at the Eliminations.
yy Participants must be present at least an hour and a half prior to
their events.
yy Participants are only allowed to carry items included in the Prop
List approved by Security.
yy Participants who have consumed any sort of intoxicating substance
will not be permitted entry into Malhar
yy Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated and will lead to
expulsion from campus.
yy Security will be present at all times on the day of the Eliminations
and Final days of Malhar.
In need of any help or information, please approach us without any
hesitation.
Technicals is the heart and soul of any production. Our sole purpose
is to make the whole experience lively and memorable covering every
minute emotion and creativity of the performer with the beauty of light
and sound. We handle high tech equipment for the three main venues;
Halls, Quad and Foyer. We also handle equipment for Classroom
events, conferences, debates, etc. We also have three non-venue
departments such as VSM, Inventory and Mobiles that deal with
administration, communication and log. A new initiated sub-department
known as Assist, deals with any emergencies that take place during the
fest. TEXXX is not noticed but yet enables others to be seen and heard.

GUIDELINES:
yy All CDs must be in Audio CD format only.
yy Music cannot be played on a pen drive, iPod, laptop, mobile phone etc.
yy All CDs must be submitted to the Texxx desk immediately after the
registration process for the respective event has been completed,
labeled with the event name and performance number.
yy Mp3 CDs, audio or video tapes will not be accepted.
yy All CDs must be collected from the Texxx desk immediately after the
performance has been completed. We will not be held accountable if
you are unreasonably late in collecting the CD.
yy All performance CDs must be cued in in order from before, containing
only the track that has to be played during that specific event. You will
not be allowed to cue the CD before the event using our equipment.
The Technicals team cannot be held responsible for any miscue. The
Technicals team will not mix any music. They will simply play the track given
to them.
yy We will not be responsible for any CD related glitches such as skipping,
format/CD not being recognized.
yy No professionals and/or CAs/CLs/ACLs will be permitted to operate
the technical equipment. The equipment will only be operated by the
MalharTechnicals crew.
yy For each event, one CA will be allowed at the Texxx desk. For events in
the hall, it is compulsory to have one CA at the Texxx desk if you have
any sound and light requirements.
yy Blackouts are permitted for Hall events.
yy Additional light and sound props such as bulbs, tube lights, microphones
etc. will not be permitted.
yy There will be a reasonable time limit provided for the setup of equipment
for each event. Exceeding this limit would reduce your performance time,
which may lead to the termination of your performance.
yy On-stage equipment will not be rearranged for any performance.
yy Sound and light demos will not be given on the day of the event. A
sound and light demo will take place on a different date and it is
compulsory for at least one CA/ CL/ACL to be present at this demo.
yy Any other technical queries must be cleared in advance during the CL

yy Relevant queries can be clarified by members of the Technicals
department.
yy The use of electric guitars for certain events is permitted, however, the
use of any distortion effects is prohibited. Violation of this may result in the
termination of the performance.
yy Keyboard players are not allowed to use any pre-recorded patches.
yy The script (with light and sound cues and requirements) submitted on the
online registration form will be verified at the Form Verification Meet. This is
compulsory for all drama events. Failure in submitting a hardcopy of the
script with cues will result in the assumption that there are no technical
requirements. No verbal cues as a replacement for a hardcopy of the
script will be accepted.
yy A drum kit with all hardware and cymbals will be provided. However,
participants are allowed to use their own cymbals and kick pedal.
yy Last minute technical requirements or changes will not be entertained.
yy No liquids or powder is allowed on stage, unless specified in the
approved prop list
yy The technicals department of Malhar reserves the right to disallow any
prop if it has the potential to affect the equipment being operated.
yy The participants or their college will be responsible for any damages
or loss caused to the equipment. The cost of the same will be borne by
the Contingent/Participants themselves. The Technicals department will
not be responsible for any glitches caused before, during or after the
performance.

LOGISTICS
FINANCE
Logistics is divided into 4 sub departments which are constructions,
displays, classrooms and events. Logistics in general deals with the
overall setup for Malhar right from construction of the stage, putting up
dropdowns, to the setups for the different events in all the classrooms,
halls, first quad and school ground. It has 5 organisers and 3
coordinators and the total strength of volunteers is around 100.

The sole responsibility of our department is to maintain the budget for
Malhar and to ensure smooth functioning of the various departments
of the workforce through adequate resource allocations. One of
the major parts of our job is tallying and clearance of accounts to
ensure all bills are reimbursed, all advances are met and payments
are settled. In addition, Finance manages the distributions of goodies,
prize bags and certificates.

POLICY REGARDING REIMBURSEMENTS
FOR OUTSTATION COLLEGES:
MARKETING
Finance reimburses 25% of the cost of train tickets (sleeper class only)
if a college registers in the stipulated time and sends an email to
finance@malharfest.org by the 27th of July, 2016 notifying us that they
want to avail of this policy.
Money, prizes and everything Malhar needs, just like before, but
always better. When we aren’t shouting, screaming or sweating it out
with sponsors, you can catch us at the M-office. If you have money, we
won’t bite.
Be it a fat year, be it a lean year, we make it rain.

ASSISTANCE
HOSPITALITY
Assistance is an internal crowd and venue management department
which is split into four sub-departments - Foyer, Halls, Judges and Floors.
We also regulate the flow of crowd on all the floors of the college.
Assistance looks after all the Judges, Speakers, Workshop Conductors
and any other visitors accompanying them. Assistance is responsible
for First-Aid on the days of Malhar provided to any audience,
participant or workforce in need.
The department of Hospitality is a mix of love, food and service,
accompanied with a heart-warming smile. We are the department that
serves food and beverages to the workforce who toil day and night
to make the fest a grand success. We also manage card-o-lates,
the most awaited ‘feel -good’ part of Malhar, wherein the workforce
exchanges personalized messages among itself through cards and
chocolates to reach out to its fellow volunteers. Additionally, we
extend our hospitality to numerous outstation students and cater to
their needs by ensuring a comfortable accommodation, an enjoyable
stay and a good Malhar experience.t

PLEASE NOTE:
yy Food will not be provided to the CL or participants. They are more
than welcome to make use of the food stalls on campus.
yy The deadline for confirming the number of students from outstation
contingents is 31st July 2016.
yy The outstation participants are requested to carry their photo ID
proof (original and two photocopies) like pan card, driver’s licence,
passport, voter’s ID, etc and a letter by the principal stating the
names of all the participants and the CL to be submitted at the
hotel.

Starting out as MS Paint prodigies, we moved on to bigger and

the side of the streets, we are working tirelessly to create some of the
stunning graphic art you see all around you, both at Malhar and in
the months leading up to it.

GRAFFIX
SOUVENIRS
Graffix is responsible for creating the galaxy of artwork that transforms
our college into a masterpiece every Malhar. We let the colours of
our imagination run wild and enhance the Malhar theme every year.
Graffix makes backdrops, puts up art installations and conducts the
lounge sale as well. Here, intricate pop culture posters that are handpainted by our volunteers are sold at reasonable prices.
Apart from that, we have a sub-department (calligraphy), which is
responsible for writing out all the certificates distributed during the fest.
Graffix brings Malhar to life by splashing it with swirls of colour every
year.
Here, at Souvenirs, we are not only reminiscing the days gone by but we
also work to create memories that will bring a smile on your face after many
days. We add on to your Yaadon ka Pitara- a trunk full of memories that you
take along wherever you go in life.
The judge and the press gifts that we make, ensure that the respected
dignitaries and journalists who take some time off, for us, from their schedule
have handmade gifts that add to their Malhar experience. In addition to
this, we are the official Malhar store. We make sure that even after Malhar
ends, our souvenirs stay with you to reinforce the good times you had at
Malhar. We sell a lot of hand crafted products, made with a lot of love as
well as creativity. Apart from that we also strongly support the Yard Sale
initiative where we have our stall of handmade products for sales.

COMPUTERS
We at PR believe in spreading the good word of Malhar through as many
avenues as we can. The team is an eclectic mix of curiously talented people, each
determined to make you feel the pulse of Malhar.
The exuberant folks at Externals and MOW (Malhar-On-Wheels) ensure that no one
misses out on the fun that we have to offer! The Malhar Paper team works hard to
bring to you a creative mix of wildly interesting topics. Via filming, we ensure that
none of your magical Malhar moments are missed and thus bring to you the soul
of this festival, captured on wheel. The Internals team makes sure that every single
detail about Malhar reaches our fellow students. Our social media folks will keep
you updated with the latest info on everything that Malhar offers. Be it Snapchat,
Facebook or Instagram, you’ll find Puddles (our mascot) inviting you to join the
celebrations! Our English & Regional Press teams work hard so that all possible
information can reach as many newspapers as possible, which vary linguistically from
English to Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and Malayalam also.
This enthusiastic melange never lets any detail go unheard. For them, it’s always
about taking Malhar to the people.
Hidden in a wee little dungeon, out of sight, is the engine that runs Malhar:
The Computers Department. These hardworking, hunched over beings
with a strange affinity for computers are surprisingly friendly when offered
food. Here, prevail three ruling classes, namely: Hardware, Production &
Documentation and Websites. They are also kept company by a fellow race
called Creatives. These humble servants of Larry, the King of the Comps
room, are the safe-keepers of the precious Wi-Fi password. Their Domain has
a few rules though; no footwear (no smelly feet either), no asking how to work
the magic paper writer (printer), and emptying the bucket that lies in lands
unknown (the dark, dark galleries). Only the brave shall survive - or the mildly
anxious.
P.S – Beating them at CS or Far Cry may/may not be injurious to A/C (read:
luxury) time.
