The growing

is a boon
for individual authors, commercial-space
who now have the possibility of publishing without the constraints of
finding an agent and publisher to get their work
out into the market. One estimate shows that the
independent, self-published segment accounts
for about 15 percent of the total e-book market.
In December, the Whitinsville Social Library
held an Authors Fair to give readers an opportunity to meet and greet some of our local e-book
(and hard copy) writers. Here are their stories.

Amy Rachiele, an Uxbridge
author who writes compelling mobster romance novels.
Amy Rachiele, a popular
author living in Uxbridge,
has found her own niche
in the romance market, the
mobster romance. She says
her interest in mobsters
probably came from growing
up in the Providence area of
Rhode Island, where the lore
of mobsters was very prevalent. Amy says most of her
readers are female and like
to read about an alpha male
who is still sensitive and kind
to the heroine. The Mobster
series follows Antonio, a mob
boss from New Jersey, and
Megan, a transplanted Irish
immigrant, as they journey
through the dangerous territory of “The Mob.” Fans are
anxiously awaiting the fifth
book in the series, “Mobster’s Bones.”

and paranormal genres,
which she enjoys writing,
but have been a little slower

Leslie Reichert is a nationally recognized “Cleaning
Coach,”

green-homekeeping expert dedicated to
educating people on keeping their homes, schools and
work areas “green.” Leslie
has a fun website with lots of
free tips and 30- second videos. A TV personality who
has appeared on Better TV,
Martha Stuart Living Radio,
and ABC News, Leslie decided to put her message down
in book form too. Her book,
“The Joy of Cleaning,” is

Douglas author Sandra
Madden’s personal experi-
ences also motivated the writing of her book. After a traumatic brain injury, and years
of learning how to cope with
the aftermath, Sandra discovered her own solution to silencing the brain chatter and
quieting the mind. Although
many find relief in meditation, Sandra discovered her
form of meditation in the
joy of finding love-hearts everywhere she goes. Camera
in hand she has taken thousands of pictures confirming
that love-hearts are everywhere.
“Hearts All Around Us”
is a collection of these photographs and inspirational
quotations, in conjunction
with the story of the author’s
experience living with brain
injury and chronic pain.
Sandra was able to publish
the book using a Kickstarter
program and in 45 days
she raised enough to create her book. Nine months
later her beautiful book was
a reality. Sandra also contributed “Unexpected Blessings” as part of the recently
published “Chicken Soup for
the Soul: Recovering from
Traumatic Brain Injuries.”

Recent additions to their

To maintain customer trust
and satisfaction, the brothers have implemented a
loyalty card program. Chris
explained that they would
rather have a program that
pays the customers to come
back than to pay for all kinds
of advertising. Different services have different “punch
values.” Once a customer
obtains twelve punches,
they save fifty dollars towards any service.
“Management and business
fads come and go, and businesses can follow the sales
tactic of the decade. But I
think none of that can outweigh simply caring about
people, and that has led to
our consistent success over
the years. And it applies to
all areas of life,” said Chris.

“people who do business with us love us,” Mr. Cahill says.
Service? One stop for everything from oil changes, tire rotations and tune-ups to inspections in a shop that features nine
bays and five lifts plus “the Hawkeye alignment system that
is the best on the market. Russ put a lot of dollars into capital
improvements” when he acquired the business from Nick Dee.
“We service everything we sell.”
Personnel? In Bob Brown, Mr. Rosborough boasts a veteran
service manager who is a holdover from the Nick Dee days
along with wrench men like Wayne Clarke, Mike Sabatinelli and
Jim Gosselin who, he says, “I am so thankful for. I have a good
team back there.” It doesn’t hurt either that “I’m friends with
every mechanic in the Valley,” Mr. Rosborough said. Among
them those who are close by who can be turned to in a pinch,
like Steve Bloem in Uxbridge and Dennis Menard in Linwood.
Out front at Uxbridge Auto the lineup is no less impressive.
GM Steve Berube and Josh Cahill are two of the best in the
game.
“Josh, he’s the biggest move I ever made,” Mr. Rosborough
said. “You can hire a Bic lighter or you can hire a flame thrower. I went out on a limb and hired a flame thrower” (Mr. Cahill
worked for Mr. Rosborough for several years before spending
a while with “new-car families” and then returning).
“Steve (Berube) has been with me forever (well, about sixteen years). He is the most honest salesperson in the state, in
the world. When he sells a car he wants it to be nicer than the
customer does. He came in once with $600 from a rental customer that was in a pocket that he could have left there.”
Location? With six full years at 187 N. Main St., Mr. Rosborough lays claim to a perfectly positioned dealership that is a
huge leap forward from the small operation he ran a mile or so
up the road (he actually began his career “at Dirienzo’s place,

was very difficult,” he said. “We were in a tough environment.
It progressed slowly. We had time though. We knocked down
walls, renovated, spruced up with new paint. Bob (Brown)
came with the place, Nick Dee did too for six months. Nick had
to go to the fuse back to turn the electric on. The problem was
a little on/off switch that I hired an electrician to fix for $75.
Nick was amazed. Just a little thing like that. I owe everything
to Nick.
He came up to see me and offered me the business. He wanted to lease it to me but I said ‘if I’m going to do it I’d like to buy
it.’ He helped me finance it.”
(Russ’ son Neil Rosborough manages a mostly gasoline and
service satellite site in Millville).
Mr. Rosborough has wanted nothing more than to be able “to
hold my head high” in the supermarket, in the restaurant, with
customers he sees here and there.
He can do so. Like Duke Snider, whose autographed Dodgers
jersey hangs in Mr. Rosborough’s office (“I got it at a golf tournament”), he has hit it out of the park time after time.

Barn is bustling once again.
The unique, attractive building, located on Route 16, is
now the home of a new The
Blessing Barn. It joins a sister store, The Blessing Barn
in Milford.
The Blessing Barn stores
operate under the auspices
of Compassion New England,
a Mendon-based non-profit
organization which exists
“to spread hope and love
throughout the community.
We believe that every person was created by God for
a purpose and is worthy of
a full, happy life.” Compassion New England programs
include GED preparation
classes, English as a Second
Language classes, the Celebrate Recovery program,
fuel assistance, a community
transportation program, and
weekly community lunches.
It is the charitable giving
arm of Mendon’s Bethany
Community Church.
The first Blessing Barn
was opened in Milford, at
146 South Main St. in the
Big Lots Plaza, in 2002. The
Mendon store had its grand
opening last month.

Whitinsville Christian High School is pleased to announce Sarah Jarosz, vocalist, has been selected to participate in the 2015
Massachusetts Music Educators Association’s 60th All-State Music Festival, which will be held March 19-21 in Boston. Sarah, a
junior, is the daughter of Ms. Lynn Jarosz of Douglas.
The Massachusetts Music Educators Association sponsors the
music festival, and participation gives students an opportunity
to demonstrate their artistry and create new friendships. Sarah
was required to audition in late-January to qualify for her spot.
She was judged based on technical abilities and musicality in
singing a prepared piece of music and selected scales, as well
as in sight-reading.

Whitinsville Wellness Center: new year, new location

The Spa at Whitinsville Wellness
Center last week celebrated the first
anniversary at its new location on
the second floor of the Milford Federal Savings Bank, 1271 Providence
Road, by hosting a huge Open
House event. If you’ve never been,
the spa’s surprisingly serene environment will relax you immediately. Spa owner Robin Allen said the
Open House was a way to honor her
customers and let them know
their loyalty is appreciated.
The Whitinsville Christian
School String Quartet performed for the event and set
a tone of soothing music even
before entering the spa. The
staff of massage therapists,
health coach, yoga instructors
and skin care consultants was
on hand to greet visitors and
offer them complementary

was a great way for current
clients to step outside the
box and try new things too,
or perhaps get into the box
in the beautiful sauna room.
The infra-red sauna was on,
and visitors stood near it to
warm up from the freezing
temperatures outside.
Robin is trained in all areas
of the spa services she offers
and has maintained her own
long term customers during
her 15 years in the massage
and wellness industry. She
now also spends much of her
time managing the spa, utilizing all the skills she acquired
before being bitten by the holistic bug.
The staff includes four experienced massage therapists,
and one, Patricia, is also an
RN, offering some additional
services such as craniosacral therapy and targeted
therapy for such things as
fibromyalgia and restless leg
syndrome.
Short sessions of chair
massages and foot reflexology were offered at the Open
House, and clients were given
the opportunity to purchase
future sessions at special prices choosing from a menu of
therapeutic massages including Swedish massage, Deep
Tissue, Pregnancy Massage,
Hot Stone Massage, Couples,
Lomi Lomi and more. There
are even some more subtle
energy therapies available
like Reiki and Polarity sessions. The website has a full
description of all the available offerings.
Participants could also get
a free skin analysis with skin
screening from the licensed
esthetician, who offers a full
course of ’face saving’ treatments using Bioelements custom-blended products, which
are paraben-free, scent-free
and gluten-free.

that included bananas, chia
seeds, spinach, vanilla and

almond milk. Samples of the
shake were enjoyed by the
attendees.
Meditation is offered several times a week and due
to popular request, yoga will
be back on the list soon. At
Robin’s previous location on
Church St., yoga was a popular class and she feels it will
complete the spa’s wellness
mission.
Whenever possible, Robin
says, she prefers to source
spa products locally and carries locally made soaps from
the Farmer’s Wife Handcrafted Soaps.
She also carries Ken Worchal’s raw honey products
during the winter months
when Foppema’s, which carries them, is closed.
Ice Bowl raises $900 for food pantry
The People First Food Pantry would like to thank Gary

again sponsoring his 2015
Ice Bowl Tournament held
in January! 45 participants
braved the cold and snownothing stopped these die
hard athletes! Through their
efforts, they raised $900 and
collected 160 lbs. of food!!
The Ice Bowl is a collection
of disc golf events that is
held each year nationwide in
January and February with
an overall mission of raising
funds to fight hunger. Related
goals include having fun and
connecting the disc golf community in a positive way to

Internal Revenue Service.
This is the highest credential
the IRS awards.
One can attain this by
passing three written examinations called Special
Enrollment Exams and then
applying to the IRS for the
designation where, at that
point, they complete an
extremely extensive background check and make
sure the candidate’s taxes
are current. The preparer
must have a special tax ID
number known as a PTIN on
file and active with the IRS
also.

been preparing tax returns
for 34 years and this will go
on to expand the scope of
my practice. I’m frequently
asked by friends and clients
what the three examinations
were like. They take into
account extremely detailed

regulations, practices and
procedures, mathematical
calculations, all types of
phasis on the ethics of
the business, representation of clients before
the IRS and much more.
Each exam covers a particular area: SEEI is individual tax returns, SEE2
is business returns and
SEE3 is ethics, standards
of practice, representation
of clients at reviews, conferences and audits, etc.”
The exams are 100 questions long of which the
passing score minimum is
105 points out of 130 points.
Some questions have more
point weight than others. Mr.
Ryan goes on to say, “What’s
nice about the way the exams are administered is that
you are told pass or fail immediately. I was extremely
fortunate to have passed
all three on the first try.

K2 Automotive marks its first
anniversary with new owners

DOUGLAS - If you’re in need of automobile repair service
and live in the Douglas area you don’t have to drive out of
town to get your work done. Conveniently located on Route
16 west of downtown Douglas, K2 Automotive is a full-service
auto repair shop. “We’ll get you back on the road!” says coowner Donna Morgan. She and her husband Dale just completed their first year as the proud owners of K2 Automotive.
Dale Morgan has been in the auto repair business for more
than 35 years and loves to get in there and fix whatever is
wrong. He began working at K2 four years ago and when
Kevin, the previous owner, decided to move south last year,
Dale Morgan (owner) and Brian Mosio (right) hard at work
getting the job done right in downtown Douglas.

Dale and his wife Donna decided it was time to take over
their own business. When Dale needed help in the garage
he reached out to Brian Mosio, an experienced mechanic
he had worked with at his previous job. Donna has a background in bookkeeping and accounting so it was a natural
for her to take over the books and let Dale and Brian concentrate on the things at which they are good.
K2 Automotive in Douglas (not Worcester) is a complete,
full-service repair shop. “It’s a one-stop shop, from routine
maintenance to alignments and brake jobs, we can do it,”
says Dale. And if they can’t fix it themselves, they have the
right contacts and associates to get the job done. Not only
can they fix whatever needs to be done, they also do it at a
reasonable price. “We know what it’s like to raise a family
and manage unexpected costs so we price our jobs fairly,”
says Donna.
Dale is enjoying his role as the owner of the shop instead
of just being a mechanic. “Owning the shop yourself gives
you more control so we are able to give top quality service
at better prices,” he said.
Dale and Donna live in Webster and make the short drive
to the shop daily. “We’re making new friends and keeping
long term K2 clients. It’s been a great year. We’re reaching
out more now to let people know that we’re here. “
Dale Morgan is an ASE Master Level Certified L1 Technician, something few technicians achieve and requires constant training to maintain. Brian is a Certified ASE Technician as well as a Master Subaru Technician.

N. GRAFTON - Community Harvest Project (CHP) announced that Jodi Koeman has been hired to lead the
organization through its next phase. Jodi is a resident of
Whitinsville and comes to CHP with decades of non-profit
management experience through the Oak Hill Community Development Corporation, Girls Incorporated, New
England Chapel, and World Renew. “We are thrilled to
welcome Jodi to Community Harvest Project during this
exciting time of organizational growth,” said Scott Rossiter, Volunteer Board President.
Community Harvest Project (CHP), a 501(c)3 organization, is dedicated to improving access to healthy foods
through community engagement. Through their volunteer farming, education, and leadership programs, they
bring thousands of community members together each
year to build an engaged and healthier Worcester County.
In 2014, thanks to over 9,800 volunteer visits, CHP grew
nearly 270,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables, which
were all donated to hunger relief though their valued
partners.

A freelance writer by trade, her byline appears regularly in
the “Telegram & Gazette,” the “Community Advocate,” and
“The Catholic Free Press.” She writes on a variety of human
interest subjects. She names them: “Lots of people profiles,
non-profit organizations and events, some arts-related articles, emerging authors, and sometimes animals – dogs and
cats.” She also writes a monthly article for the inspirational/
religious website beliefnet.com.
Christina grew up in North Grafton, lived away, and then
moved back to Grafton several years ago.

Urinary health and cats

Everybody pees, right? Well, in cats (and some breeds of
dogs), problems can occur that can lead to life-threatening inability to urinate. Yikes! Cats are notoriously excellent hiders of
disease; else they would become prey instead of predator. Signs
that your kitty is having a urinary problem can
be very subtle, and you may be able to prevent
issues. The first thing to know is that if your pet
is unable to urinate, SEEK EMERGENCY CARE!
When urine cannot escape the body, it causes
kidney damage and sometimes-fatal electrolyte
imbalances in the body. Plus, it’s painful.
Why does this happen? Urinary obstruction,
or blockage, typically occurs in male cats ages 5
and up. Believe it or not, what your cat eats influences the health of his urinary tract due to subtle changes
in
pH. It is normal for some minerals to wash through the urinary
system, but when the pH of the urine is more acidic or more alkaline, these minerals (including calcium and phosphates, typically) can sediment out of the urine and clog up the pipes, so
to speak. Cats’ narrow urethras (tube from the bladder to the
outside world) are easily plugged with accumulations of these
mineral crystals or mucus. Urinary tract infection, from bacteria, can increase the risk of crystals forming. In addition, as if
that wasn’t enough, inflammation from straining to urinate can
further narrow the already (less than 1 mm in diameter) narrow
urethra.
Sounds grim, right? Well, cats can give us subtle clues that
they are having problems. One very common symptom, one I
have heard described by cat owners numerous times, is the cat
is suddenly urinating in the bathtub or sink. My theory is that
this is how kitty is getting our attention, since discolored urine
is very difficult to detect in the normal litter box. Same goes
for dogs in the winter- you can detect abnormally colored urine
better in the snow. Increased frequency of urination, straining
or pain on urination, discolored urine, or NO urine production
can all be signs of a problem. Many cat owners with fully obstructed cats have mentioned to me that their cat seemed painful
when they picked it up. Abdominal pain definitely goes along
with a swollen, enlarged, painful bladder your pet is unable to
empty. Plenty of pets are also noticed licking their genitals more

Oh my gosh! What do I do now? Get your pet to a vet ASAP
if painful and unable to urinate. Discolored urine deserves a
prompt (within 24 hours) visit as well. Your vet will attempt to
get a urine sample in a variety of possible ways; a sterile sample
is preferred in the event a bacterial culture and antibiotic sensitivity test needs to be run. Urine samples
will be centrifuged and your vet or veterinary technician will check for bacteria, mineral crystals, signs of
kidney disease, inflammation, cancer, and diabetes.
Sometimes it is not possible to detect a color change
in urine with the naked eye, but on standard testing
strips, even trace amounts of blood can be measured.
If your cat is fully obstructed in his urethra, he will
need to have his blood levels of electrolytes and kidney function analyzed. Typically, sedation or anesthesia is required for your vet to pass a small urinary catheter to remove
urethral plugs and flush out the urinary path. This may need to
be left in for a few days while healing begins and inflammation
subsides. Antibiotics and pain medication are common, but if
the bladder or urethra are damaged or stretched, other medications may be required.
If it is a bacterial infection, antibiotics are commonly given. If a
suspected behavior problem or sterile inflammation, sometimes
behavioral drugs like Elavil are used. It is also often recommended to begin feeding the cat a prescription medical urinary
diet to help prevent future crystals from reforming.
To help prevent a problem, feed the recommended food, supply plenty of fresh water, and change litter frequently. If your
kitty has trouble cleaning feces from his back end, you may use
wet paper towels or baby wipes to help in removing debris. Cat
fountains are a clever way to encourage cats to drink. Rumors
of “low ash” food or certain flavors (like seafood) of cat food affecting urinary health are unsubstantiated. Listen to your pets,
they are telling you more than you realize!

Memorial Town Hall.
Following a short business meeting, Doreen A. Cedrone,
Town Clerk, will present “Treasure Trove of Information,” explaining the functions of her office. She serves as the town’s
chief election official, recording officer, registrar of vital records, licensing and public information officer. What public
documents does the town clerk oversee? How can historians
and genealogists access these documents? What changes in
format, kinds of information gathered, and technology have
there been over the years? A ledger of hand-copied records
from the state archives to mark the nation’s Centennial concerning Northbridge’s Revolutionary War soldiers will be
displayed as well as other items of interest.
The public is welcome to attend. An elevator is available to

NORTHBRIDGE - The Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce announces its 17th annual Home & Business Expo on
Saturday, March 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Northbridge High

The event is the largest and most attended of the year, hosting close to 100 exhibitors and over 3,000 attendees. The venue is a great means exposure and promotion for businesses

has made donations to our local food pantries, sponsored
CPR classes at the local fire department, contributed to summer lunch programs for children, dinners served at Peace of
Bread in Whitinsville and meals at our local senior center.

Drive-by Fish Fry
SUTTON - Starting on February 20 and continuing until
March 27, every Friday, the Knights of Columbus of Sutton/
Millbury Bishop Bernard J. Flanagan Council #12710 will
have their annual Drive-by Fish Fry. It will be in the parking
lot at St. Mark’s Church, 356 Boston Road. The fish fry will include a fresh 8 oz. filet of fish with French fries, cole slaw and
tartar sauce from the trailer. All are welcome, serving starts
at 4 p.m. and continues until all 200 pounds of fish are gone.
This usually is by 7:30 p.m. or so. Just drive in and place an

The workshop delves into exploring difficult conversations

and a registered nurse. The workshop is free of charge and

WHITINSVILLE - DivorceCare for Kids is a support group
for kids who are angry, hurt, and confused by their parents’
divorce. DivorceCare for Kids provides a safe, fun place
where children will learn to understand their feelings, express their emotions appropriately, and heal from their pain
and confusion.
Each group session is filled with motivating and exciting activities, games, crafts, role playing, discussion times, journaling and activity books, to help children process the divorce
and move forward in their lives. DivorceCare for Kids is for
children 5-12 years old. It is free and non-denominational.

The annual Touch-a-Truck event is a free event for the entire family where children can see and climb on “real life”

DOUGLAS - The Sunshine Club of the Douglas Senior Center will be taking two overnight trips in the spring and a few
day trips.
Wednesday, Mar 18—John Brown House, Providence with

There are two day trips in April. On Thursday, April 9, a
trip to the show “Lend Me a Tenor” at the Ocean State Theatre in Warwick, RI. Lunch is at “Top of the Bay” right on the

Wednesday, April 29, a day in the north end of Boston for

WHITINSVILLE - A new divorce recovery support group
has started at the Pleasant Street Church in Whitinsville.
Called “Fresh Start – There is Life after Divorce,” this program is for men and women who are separated or divorced
and living single again. The group offers support, encouragement, friendship, and hope.
Each meeting includes a topical video followed by small
group discussion, refreshments, and social time. The program continues for 12 weeks and is free and open to all.

There is a tombstone that
sits ominously in the living
room. It is the stone marker
of Nancy Barden who died
in 1778 at the edge of the
property while pursuing her
disloyal betrothed. The inn
boasts thirteen lavishly spacious guest rooms, each with
its own fireplace and private
bath. The amenities and
scenic vistas are enough to
make a person want to stay
forever. It seems Nancy has.
Nancy Barden was a servant girl working for a Colonel Whipple in Lancaster.
There was another man
working for the colonel as
well. Nancy and the man fell
in love and were to marry.
Here is where the story takes
on two versions. One version is that Nancy went into
town to buy some wedding
clothes. During her absence,
the man took the wedding
dowry and ran off. The other
version states that for some
reason, the colonel strongly
objected to their marriage
and sent the man to another
farm.
Either way, Nancy came
home to find her lover gone.
She set out on foot through
the notch in search of her
betrothed. She came across
a campfire and assumed it
was the man who spurned
her who had been camping
there so she continued on.
She came upon the property
of the present Notchland,
where she fell into the icy
stream and froze to death.
She was buried near the
brook and pond that now
bears her name. It is but a
few minutes’ stroll down a
path to the cairn of rocks
that marks her final resting
place. There is a stone that
also tells the story at the
inn. On the stone
reads the inscription,
“NANCY,
WHO DIED IN
PURSUIT OF HER
FAITHLESS LOVER.” This is the
marker that guests
can glimpse upon
entering the inn.
Hart’s Location
may be the smallest settlement in
the state but it
does have at least
one ghost, which
is more than most
other places can boast.

This new house
After the framing, a siding surprise

their new house in Douglas.

Boy did I speak too soon!
Last month I said Mother
Nature was cooperating with
us and wrote about how
the mild start to winter was
working in our favor. The
Blizzard sure did put an end
to that - the mild winter that
is. Our progress, surprisingly, was hardly impacted
by the Blizzard. Pete’s poor
arms and back…well, those
are a different story.
As pleasurable as it was to
clear three feet of snow from
one driveway, it was even
more exciting clearing it
from two driveways, as well
as unbury supplies and clear
all the snow from around the
house...in the early morning
hours…before heading to
work…numerous times during our record setting snow
accumulation week…ok, I’m
making it sound way worse
than it was. Or, maybe not.
I wouldn’t actually know,
because I was at home with
our son and didn’t do any of
it. (One of the few ‘perks’ of
being 38- weeks pregnant!)
During the past month,
snow storms and all, a lot
has happened with our
house. Our humble abode
has grown from only foundation walls to a fully-framed
house and garage, with windows and doors, a finished
roof, vinyl siding installed,
and basement slab poured.
Not only was most all of this
done this month, most was
done before the Blizzard hit.
Getting the house weathertight and pouring the basement slab were crucial to
our schedule. We will have
finished living space in our
basement, so if that had
not happened, our framers wouldn’t have been
able to finish the interior.
No framed walls means no
HVAC, electrical, etc. Fortunately, it took only days for
the crew to frame the house,
allowing us to heat the basement ground to get the slabs
poured. For a small fee, we
rented ‘blankets’ from our
foundation contractor to lie
down to do this. The blankets are basically very thick
tarps which seal in warmth,
keeping the ground from
freezing. In our case, that’s
all that was needed. In other instances, you might also
need to run a heater for a
few hours or overnight.
As if getting this far in our
progress in only a couple
of weeks wasn’t impressive enough…on the way to
work the day after the Blizzard, Pete received a phone
call from our framers asking if our lot was cleared at
all. Pete explained to them
that he was able to plow the
“driveway” and make a few
passes with the snow blower
before time ran out and he
had to head to work. This
status was good enough for
them as all the other properties they were working on
still hadn’t been plowed at
that time in the morning (my
guess is because of the travel
ban on Tuesday). So, armed
with shovels, our framing
contractors went to work at
our house. And so did our
siding contractors.
Even though Mother Nature
dumped a ton of snow on us,
Father Wind drifted most of
it away from the house. The
framers did have to dig out
some of the supplies from
under the snow, but at least
they were able to get around
without having to clear too
much more than that. Pete
and I were so relieved to
hear this, though I’m sure
not as relieved as they were
to not have to shovel as
much as expected.
With so much happening at
the house, especially the addition of the siding, Pete and
I couldn’t wait to go see what
it looked like! Pete usually
stops by the house almost
every morning and evening
to see the progress. I don’t,
but sometimes I’ll drive by
during the day if I’m out running errands.
A few weeks ago, Pete and I
agreed that if something major changed with the house,
we would go to see the progress together. So one night,
after work, we went to see the
siding. Our advice: Don’t go
look at dusk after work. That
evening, when we pulled in,
we were both silent. Finally
I said “Hmmm.” Pete replied with “Um, it’s grey.” I
agreed with Pete – It really
did look grey. This wouldn’t
have been a bad thing if we
ordered grey siding, but we
didn’t. We ordered a soft
green colored siding called
“soft willow.” Here’s what
we should have done: Gone

the sun was shining and saw

was beautiful! It still wasn’t
exactly what I remembered,
but it was definitely not grey
either. It’s amazing how
different a color can look
in mass quantity versus a
small color chip. Also, the
weather conditions, different
light bulbs in the store and
at home, snow covered yard
versus pretty green grass all can change the look. So
be prepared for what you
might see. Pete actually
came from the site a little
bit ago carrying in a piece of
scrap siding from the trash.
We looked at it, sitting on
the couch under the lamp as
we had the night we picked
out the color. Wouldn’t you
know? It looked exactly like
what we remembered.

we may have slightly overreacted!
The next morning, I decided to take a drive by the
house to have another look,
mostly to convince myself
the grey would be okay. I

GRAFTON: Grafton Community Television’s fall producer’s course saw the successful graduation of four new certified producers for Grafton’s cable access station.
The GCTV video production class is made available in
cooperation with Charter Communications at no charge to
Grafton residents, town employees and local Grafton business owners.
Students learned the basics of Television Production, including; Studio Cameras and Field Camcorder Operation,
Audio and Lighting, Directing, and Non-Linear Editing.
According to Kris McMullin, GCTV Public Access Coordinator, “This class was a very enthusiastic group, all of whom
were very diligent in attending all of the scheduled classes.
These students also were trained on GCTV’s newest editing
system, Adobe Premier Pro, for the first time.”
