Hello Friends,
As we head into Summer, PPF would like to THANK all
of you for supporting our events and all of our animals!
We have had a fantastic fiscal year (June 2015 to June
2016) adopting out an abundance of animals, raising
much needed funds, and raising awareness in our Cities
of Dana Point and San Clemente. These funds not only
help out the San Clemente/Dana Point Animal Shelter
PPF 2016-2018

continue to be pro humane, but they also fund our many
programs including A Rescue Mission (ARM), Trap

As you all know, we cannot do this alone, you are the reason for our success! We do not
receive funding and rely solely on the gifts from animal lovers like you who want to create a
more humane world for their pets and animals. We always need your donations and support
at our fundraisers to continue our success. Every single dollar counts and we depend on you,
our supporters. Please know that your gift makes a difference in the lives of every animal in
our care. Please consider a donation today by visiting www.petprojectfoundation.org.

Case(y) of the Missing Teeth
A 2-year-old orange Tabby with NO
TEETH? It truly is a mystery. This
adorable and sassy feline, came into
the shelter missing all his teeth.
And having no teeth doesn’t seem
to bother him at all, you don’t need
teeth to enjoy a little tuna and milk
we’ve been told. A fellow volunteer
commented “his meow is like a
rusty gate and tugs at your heart
strings.”
Casey Jr. is available for adoption!
He’s taking visitors and will flash
his pearly ‘gums’ for you!

Sponsorship Initiative
The Poop on Solid Waste: Public Safety Industries Steps In ‘It’
In connection with the Pet Project Foundation, Public Safety Industries is launching an initiative to help keep our trails and parks clean from dog waste and raise awareness of our furry friends at
the San Clemente Dana Point Animal Shelter. PSI is implementing a pilot project with the City of
San Clemente to replace existing dog stations with upgraded, sponsored stations.
Sponsors are recognized for their generous donation on the station along with a QR code that
directs interested parties to the sponsor content. On the sponsor content page, we will tie in PPF,
showcasing a dog of the week or adoption stories to inspire animal lovers to rescue and become
involved at our local shelter.
Donations raised through sponsors will free up funds that are currently being used for station
bag replenishment. Budgeted funds can be redirected towards other beach, park and trail
improvements.
Up to 40% of dog owners do not pick up after their dog’s solid waste. As we grow in population,
greater demand is placed on the City to maintain and expand recreation areas; especially pet
friendly environments where pollutants may wash into our storm drain system and flow,
untreated, into our ocean.
Our pilot project includes replacement of 10 existing dog waste stations with our upgraded
sponsored stations at a number of parks and trails throughout the city. Founding sponsors will
have “first dibs” on as many as 50 additional stations and locations that may be added after the
first year.
If you are interested in becoming a sponsor or would like further information,
please contact us at: 949.366.9898 or katie@publicsafetyindustries.com.

KORA
4
Kora was found by one of our Animal Control Officers after receiving multiple reports from
residents of a very thin sickly coyote being seen wondering around. When the Animal Control
Officer arrived on the scene, she observed a cowering, frightened but very sweet female German
Shepard that was too weak to stand. Her emaciated frame appeared to be the size of a coyote. She

adequate diet which has left her approximately 25-30 pounds underweight, and general muscle loss
due to the extent of her poor care. Her recovery will be slow,
but no doubt steady, as she has already shown a great recovery in her personality and a ravenous
appetite here at the shelter. Once she is better she will be put up for adoption into a loving home
she has always deserved, but never experienced.
Working at the animal shelter is usually a wonderful experience watching children adopting
their first animal, or young families starting out with 2 kittens or a senior who needs the love of a
small lap dog. We are indeed fortunate to observe the joy of a great adoption. But on occasion we
get an animal, usually a dog that is so abused or neglected as to bring the Pet Project Foundation
volunteers and staff to tears. Kora’s sweetness is such a dog. She said “thank you” with every look
in her eyes. We told her we would help her to heal in her heart and in her body.
Your donations allow the Pet Project Foundation to care for the many homeless
animals that come through our shelter. We can’t do this without your generous
support and we graciously thank you!

Adorable Adoptables
Anvil the ball player!
Anvil was found at a San Clemente park tied to a tree with a bowl of water. This
young handsome Pit was neither neutered or trained in any fashion. We estimate
when he arrived he was a little over one year. Now he is about 4 years old and
has been with us for almost 3 years.
Anvil had a very difficult time breathing. If he exerted himself in any way, he
would gasp for air. His soft palate was an issue so he had surgery. Thanks to
PPF for seeing that all his medical needs were met.
Our on-site trainer began his evaluation to see what skills and behaviors he
already knew. Well, none was the answer. He did not even know how to put his
butt on the ground, as it was only a hover. There was no eye contact; he had
no idea what leash manners were. Anvil was not aggressive, just did all he
could to covet his toys, especially the ball.

Pit Bull Terrier
AGE:
4 Years Old
Now, not only is he a star at his K9 Nosework class, he is a pleasure to
take on walks. When he has a toy in his mouth, he drops it on command
and leaves it when cued to do so. Anvil loves to have his ears rubbed
and you can tell by his wagging tail! One of his favorite activities is to
hang out with his handlers and watch the world go by. Anvil needs an
experienced owner and to be the only dog in the family.
Max, he’s a cuddle bug!
Max lived in a mobile home for about 3 years with his previous owner until his
owner had a stroke and could no longer care for him. He came to the shelter
overweight and lethargic.
WAGGING TAILS Summer 2016
Max was adopted and loved his condo where he would take walks and hang
out with his young man. After over a year his adopter decided his life had
changed and no longer could care for Max. So Max came back to our shelter.
6
Max has a lot of volunteer friends who love to take him for long walks because
he walks so nicely on a leash. Max is a BIG cuddle bug! Riding in cars is
another favorite pastime. He loves playing ball and is house trained. Max
came to the shelter not knowing any commands but now knows sit,
down, eye contact, leave it and heel. So obviously he is pretty smart!
You can put a treat on his paw and he will not touch it until you tell
him it is “OK”. He is also a star at K9 Nosework.
Max is big and strong so will need an experienced owner and a home
where he is the only animal.

All these adorable animals are looking for loving homes. If you think one of them would be a
great addition to your family, please visit the shelter to meet them. They’ll be waiting for you!
Cecily is as sweet as they come!
Cecily is a young dwarf mix ruby-eyed white spayed female. She was about 2 months
old when she arrived at the shelter in July 2015. Cecily was part of a litter
dumped at a local park with her siblings and mother Trixie. Cecily
loves pets, but only on her terms. Cecily likes to grumble, but she
warms up to you once she gets to know you. She has good litter

Treats, tricks and Troy!
Troy is a male, neutered, white-and-black English Spot dwarf mix. Troy
was about 2 months old when he arrived in September 2010. Troy is
a lonely bunny – he started fighting with his brothers and had to
be split away from them, but he misses them. He is looking for a
home that will give him lots of attention, treats, and pets. He has
a sweet personality and a mild demeanor. He doesn’t like being
picked up very much, but once he’s being held, he’s fine. Troy
would love to find someone that understands him – would that be
you? Troy is our Packed-and-Ready-to-Go-Home rabbit, so he comes
with everything you need to bring him into your home: an exercise
pen, litter box and litter, bowls, food (pellets and hay), toys and special
bunny snacks... and of course, one awesome bunny!

Pan is a neutered male, brown tabby Domestic Shorthair. He
is about 1 year and 6 months old and a very handsome boy!
Pan was rescued from a hoarding situation in San Diego and
was lucky enough, along with nine other of his compadres,
to end up at the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal shelter.
He’s a very affectionate boy who loves people and other
kitties. His closest pal Tiki just got adopted, so he’s
a little lonely, but confident someone will come

Event Spotlight
2016 FESTIVAL OF WHALES STREET FAIR
& WHALES AND TAILS WAG-A-THON
Our 2016 Wag-A-Thon event was spectacular! We had over 74 vendors, a food truck, Kona-Ice, face painters, live music, pet costume
contest and more. The Festival of Whales parade, with PPF leading it off, was a great beginning to the day. We had a lot of dogs
walking in the parade with their owners and Brian Bent, renowned artist musician and surfing icon, was a huge hit!
Thank you to all our sponsors, to all the volunteers who made this possible, and most of all to all of
you who came down to see us along with your dogs. We look forward to seeing everyone in 2017!!

OUR MISSION
Lost and abandoned animals have a
second chance at a good life thanks
to the Pet Project Foundation (PPF)
and the San Clemente-Dana Point
Animal Shelter.
The mission of the Pet Project Foundation
is ‘to enhance the quality of life for all
companion animals in a pro-humane
manner through compassion responsibility,
education, and service.’
This mission is successful with ongoing
support of the shelter from our community
and veterinarian professionals. This
special shelter provides food, houseing,
exercise, training, medical care and love for
homeless animals until they are re-united
with their owners or with their new forever
homes.
We could not do it without your help!
Please send information on making a
charitable donation, such as a Planned
Giving Bequest or other ultimate donation
to express my support for the animals in
the care of PPF.
