Summer 2015 Summer Travel Means Shared Branching is “In” As your summer adventures take you away from home, you can still have complete access to your accounts through Shared Branching. Simply look for the CO-OP logo (shown below) and bring your member number and a valid government issued ID. The best way to find a branch out of state is to go to CO-OP’s website. For a credit union in the state of Maine, simply use Maine’s Credit Unions Shared branch locator at mainecreditunions.org. Party Palooga Schedule of Events 2015 Five County Credit Union is in its 5th year of a partnership with local company Party Palooga owned by Rob Woodman. A recent study from Harvard University says spending on home renovations may set a record this year, and it’s not too hard to see why. Home prices are on the upswing across the country, so improvements look like a good investment. If you want to raise your property’s value, consider which projects can provide a good return if you sell the place later. Before going too far, consider how to pay for the work. Lenders like Five County Credit Union offer home equity lines of credit with fixed or variable rates that let you borrow against your stake in the property to finance value-enhancing improvements. Here are five that provide some of the best gains. • Attic-to-bedroom conversion Few people may see this room, but finishing the attic can add value to your home all the same. Adding a 15-by-15-foot bedroom with a 5-by7-foot bathroom with shower can convert the attic from a storage area into new living space. The average cost of almost $51,700 typically delivers a boost in value of about 77% of that figure, or close to $40,000, according to Remodeling Magazine. • New front door You see this entry way every day, so maybe it’s time to freshen it up. If your front door has deteriorated or lost its aesthetic charm, replacing it can boost value. Adding a new steel door may cost $1,230 but the increase in market value averages almost 102% of that, or $1,252. • Replace your garage door Putting on a new garage door might brighten the look of your house. The average cost of almost $1,600 can lift the home’s market value by about 88% of that investment, or roughly $1,400. • Window replacement Adding new, insulated, wood-framed windows can reduce winter’s chill and burnish the exterior charm of your home. Replacing 10 double-hung windows costs an average of $11,341 and increases the value of the home by almost 79% of that price. The added value doesn’t include heat savings or any wood-siding costs. • Adding a deck Putting a wooden deck onto the back or side of the house can make your home more appealing, especially in warmer months when you and your guests prefer to relax outside. Include a built-in bench and planter, with full railings, all in pressure-treated lumber on concrete piers and the cost averages about $10,000. The average increase in value of over 80% means an almost $8,100 boost in what your house may fetch should you sell it. Whether you add or replace features, remodeling can make a worthwhile change to your home and your lifestyle. Spencer Tierney, NerdWallet Mobile Deposit Service Tap. Snap. Campaign Corner Recap Five County would like to announce that we are making tremendous impact in our communities with your help with the following fundraisers. Since our last newsletter, many of our campaigns wrapped up with the following results. American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life: Including a corporate sponsorship of $1,500.00, the Credit Union contributed a donation totaling $5,658.96 during our April thru May 2015 campaign for the Relay for Life. Our staff indulged in a month-long dress down to support the cause, sold solar dancers, mugs & pens. We held a raffle for a Kuerig (generously donated to us by Warren’s Office Supply) and our team members collected personal donations along with attending the Relay event at the Brunswick High School on May 15th & May 16th, 2015. End Hunger: Scented hand-made soaps, duct tape Roses, and CDs are just a few of the items that are on sale during our year-long campaign to End Hunger. Five County has raised and distributed more than $20,000 dollars to help end hunger in Maine. Children’s Miracle Network: By supporting The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital through our Skip-A-Pay program, not only are we able to provide our members a helping hand during the challenging holiday season, but we are able to provide support to the 51,000 children who walk through the doors of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital each year. We were able to donate a total of $5,155.00 to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. Special Olympics: Scrapbooking for Special Olympics and various dress down incentives, continue to help raise money for adults and children with intellectual disabilities and helping them develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy. This has been a wonderful addition to the fundraising efforts at Five County Credit Union. Total funds raised and given back to Special Olympics were $5,200. United Way: Five County employee weekly pledges raised $11,878.00 and the corporate sponsorship was $1,500.00, for an outstanding total of $13,378.00 that was donated back to the United Way to support work in education, financial stability and health in our communities. Thank you to everyone who helps to raise money towards our goals, including our generous members and employees who contribute to our many causes in one way or another. We are grateful for your help! Award Winning! Recently, Five County Credit Union was among this year’s 2015 honorees to have received multiple awards for community service, financial and member education.
