anyone needing assistance within their service area.

Relay Recap
Five County is proud to announce that with the last of our Relay
funds turned in, our total raised for this year’s 2014 Relay for
Life comes to $4,464.74. In addition, the Credit Union increased
our corporate sponsorship of this event to $1,500 this year.
Five County Credit Union is well known to the local American
Cancer Society Office for our support of the Brunswick Relay
for Life. This comes from the amount of funds we raise as a
team, the fact that the Finance Committee that counts all of the
donations consists of Five County employees and the corporate
sponsorship that is presented each year. We are proud belonging
to an organization well known for doing such great things in our
community!
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Relay
for Life, whether you helped plan the event, contributed to our
fundraisers or planned one of your own, joined the team and
collected pledges from friends and family, pledged a coworker,
walked at Relay or showed up the night of Relay in support. It
could not have been done without your help and support.

Don’t Get Burned By
Identity Theft This Summer
In preparation for summer rays, you’ve slathered on sunscreen. Okay,
now how about your equally vulnerable personal data? Here are six
low-tech ways to avoid being burned by identity theft this summer.
1. Check your accounts every week for unauthorized transactions.
Whether you use Online Banking or Mobile Banking, scroll through
the transactions. If any of them are unfamiliar, contact us right away.
2. Create a different password for each online account. Thinking up—
and remembering—unique, difficult-to-hack passwords for each account is difficult, but worth the effort.
3. Don’t click on unknown links in an unsolicited email. That goes for
pop-ups and attachments, too. Any of them may hide spy software.
4. Go digital to avoid a paper trail. An account statement in the trash
can reveal your name, address, account number, and purchase patterns, allowing a scammer to fake new transactions that might not trigger a fraud alert. To foil these felons, sign up for electronic statements.
5. Don’t skimp on antivirus software. Staying on top of worldwide
hacker threats takes a big investment of time, skill, and money, so
the best brands aren’t cheap. Ask your computer guru or check online
forums to see what software the pros prefer, and be sure to keep it up
to date.
6. Review your credit report every four months. You can download
a free report once a year from each of the three big credit reporting
bureaus. Be on the lookout for loans or credit cards taken out in your
name, or other people’s delinquencies and defaults posted to your account. The report will explain how to report fraud or errors.
Last, our fraud alert system flags purchases (particularly big ones)
that don’t match your usual pattern, so be sure to keep us posted if
you plan to use your debit or credit card to pay for a hotel in Nome,
Alaska, or buy a pricey home theater. It takes only a few minutes
to call and give us a heads-up. That way, you’ll reduce the risk of
your unusual transaction being declined—and help our fraud software
catch the really bad guys instead.
