position in the scholarship trust, and we
are continuing to carry momentum into our
second centennial.
Part of this momentum was certainly due
to John Foss (President 2013). John’s
involvement in this club has been invaluable
and will continue to be invited and welcome.
John, thank you.

I would also like to thank Brian Wright (CP)
who has moved on to a new role at CP, and
has left his space on the TTC board, and the
spring golf event in very capable hands.
President’s Message
It’s with great pleasure that I take over the
Presidency of this illustrious group of peers
at the Toronto Transportation Club. This club
has been instrumental in making my career
an extremely enjoyable adventure.
There is an old adage that says; “people
deal with people”. This to me is the essence
of The Toronto Transportation Club. I have
benchmarked with peers, I have compared
products and services, I have recommended
people to other people, I have found
customers, I have found synergies, and
I have down right just complained. Most
importantly I have made lifelong friends
that share a commonality of being involved
in some shape or form in the supply
chain process.
The title “President” is a misnomer. The
Board of Directors, and the countless
volunteers past and present are what make
The Toronto Transportation Club the success
that it is. The very foundation of this club
when it started over 100 years ago is the
same main intention it has today; to provide
a forum that allows the industry to meet.
(Hence the tag line “Where Industry Meets”).
We do it in great numbers, with great
outcomes. Our members see great value in
the forums we provide so it will always be
the cornerstone of this club.
I would like to thank Peter Collins and his
Board, Committees, and Volunteers for a very
successful 2014 event year. We are larger in
membership, we are increasing our financial

Lastly, congratulations to Gary Fast
(Canadian Tire) who was elected to the
role of Second Vice President (2015) at
our December AGM. Gary has been a great
contributing member of our Board, and
Canadian Tire has been committed to our
Club for many years. Gary will in no doubt
continue to achieve the highest standards
moving forward throughout his tenure.

There are some important notes to pass on
from the Club as part of our first newsletter
of 2015;
I invite current members to renew early, and
take part in our iPad early bird draw. I also
encourage you to think about including more
people in your organization by becoming
a corporate member, or growing through
individual membership. Simply, membership
allows us to continue but more people
attending our events, is what allows us to
achieve our goals, and fund the scholarship.
This newsletter also contains information on
our digital advertising yearly sponsorship,
which this year included ten sold out events,
and record amounts of people. Without a
doubt this will give your marketing a boost!
Please take a moment to ‘Save the Dates’ for
our 2015 events in your calendars. I wish
you all a very prosperous and healthy 2015.
I’m looking forward to a fantastic year of
TTC events!

ONE HUNDRED AND FIRST
ANNUAL DINNER
December kicked off with
The Toronto Transportation Club
celebrating its 101st Annual Dinner.
from some current controversial news stories, and “insider”
type information.
The event was a great success once again, and we look forward to
getting to work on the 102nd.
The Annual Dinner was held in the
Main Ball Room at the Royal York
Hotel and was a record attendance
of industry professionals and
dignitaries who helped celebrate
this wonderful evening.
2014 was the second year that the club has awarded two
scholarships. Independent adjudicator Jerry Kelly announced the
2014 award winners;
1. Kelsie Wilkinson
2. Shane Reid
Present at the largest annual
head table were Her Worship
Hazel McCallion, (retired) Mayor
of Mississauga (one of the longest serving elected leaders in
history), and guest speaker Ben Mulroney. We also had over fifty
transportation leaders and many Past Presidents.
This year’s event sold out early, so please get your “save the date”
entered to not be disappointed in 2015!
Tim Roulston
President, Toronto Transportation Club
Ben Mulroney enlightened the crowd with some stories that were
themed “what makes a celebrity”. He certainly did not back down

A Royal Night at the Races
theme, their countless hours made this evening a HUGE success.
“And we were off” to what turned
out to be a most enjoyable night
of racing at Woodbine Race Track.
While we have been putting on
this event for over 15 years, we
challenged ourselves to come up
with a new and exciting theme that
can be enjoyed by all our members
and guests.
Last, but not least, I wanted to thank all the members that attended
this royal evening. Clearly without your participation we would
simply not have events such as these. We were proud of our new
Royal theme and to see all guests participate in that theme was
outstanding. Comments from fellow Board Members included, “Have
you ever seen so many people dressed so well for a night at the
races?” – “Wow heels, tuxes and fascinators – how could you go
wrong?” – “Can you believe how amazing the Fascinators look?!”
What makes these events so special is the camaraderie, networking
and our members supporting the themes. We can all be proud of our
involvement at all levels this evening.
With that, the “TTC Royal Night at
The Races” was born. Fascinators,
top hats, tuxedoes, Princes and
Princess’ all added to an evening where we all “CHARGED” into a
great time!
As with most events, we appreciate your feedback. All comments can
be made at our website www.torontotransportationclub.com or via
email to Denise Cardy ed@torontotransportationclub.com.
The TTC board would first like to thank it’s sponsors, Trailcon
Leasing, Meyers Transport, Cavalier Transportation, OCR, Motive
Media Fleet Graphics & Consolidated Fastfrate. As with all of our
events, nights like this cannot be possible without their generous
patronage. Whether it be for one of the races or diners or drinks or
appetizer table we truly appreciate your commitment to the TTC.
We are already planning next year’s event and will most certainly try
to top what we did this year! So stay tuned for information regarding
“2015’s TTC ROYAL NIGHT AT THE RACES”.
My top hat off to all of you.
I would also like to thank the Board Members who spent countless
hours conceptualizing this theme and making it a reality. From the
red carpets, to the royal cutouts of Kate and William, to the regal

For the second November in a
row, the Toronto Transportation
Club issued the TTC Mo Challenge,
benefitting MOvember Canada.
MOvember’s goal is to change the
face of men’s health, with a specific
focus on men’s mental health and
prostate cancer research. We felt
this would be a great cause for us
to support as men’s health issues
have affected most, if not all of us!
Our past president Gord
McNeil, jumped on board as our
spokesman, sharing his own story with prostate cancer, helping to
raise awareness for the importance of early detection. Gord’s positive
outlook and his passion for the cause is truly inspirational
The 2nd Annual “Judging of the MO’s” was a ton of fun and are proud
to announce our winners!

The Power of Education
GOLF TOURNAMENT 2014
Celebrating our 3rd annual event,
the oversold field of 112 golfers
took to chilly links of one of
Muskoka’s most beautiful golf
courses for a fun filled day of
challenging weather conditions.
There were many on-course
activities, including the popular air
cannon, Caesar bar, and the
$1 Million dollar shoot out.
Needless to say, it was enjoyed
by all, even with the slice Mother
Nature hit our way!
This event would not have been possible without the generous
sponsorship funds & support…Please recognize our event sponsors:
CH Robinson, Transcore Link Logistics, Canadian Pacific Railway,
Muir’s Cartage, Today’s Trucking, Trailcon Leasing, Motive Media,
Manitoulin Group of Companies, Reefer Sales and Service,
Kee Human Resources, Cummins Eastern Canada,
The Humberview Group, and Brannon Steel. Many thanks to the
additional 18 companies who sponsored holes at this event.
The 4th annual event has a few exciting changes to the itinerary for
2015. This year we will take to the water with the historic Muskoka
Steamship Company, who will be transporting us to The Lake
Joseph Club for an exciting round of golf. Following golf we will
enjoy a scenic cruise of Lake Rosseau while enjoying delicious hors
d’oeuvres & refreshing cocktails before we return to the JW Marriott
for an elegant gourmet dinner, fine wine, and lots of incredible prizes.
Please mark your calendar for Sept. 17th, 2015. Remember, book
early as this exclusive all-inclusive event is limited to 100 golfers.
The Power of Education Golf Classic is widely recognized as the
industry’s foremost charity golf event. Proceeds from the tournament
helped to establish an additional scholarship fund and provides more
than $6,000 per year in scholarship payments and will continue
to deliver support to students who need our help in realizing their
dream of a higher education. Members of the TTC are eligible to have
their dependent child apply for offered scholarships. Scholarships
are open to graduating students entering their first year of studies at
an accredited university or community college and are paid annually.
This event was created in 2012, and has raised nearly $30,000 in
direct support of the club’s scholarship trust.
