3/31 - Gr. 1 Performance Festival @ 2:05pm
4/7 - SPRING BOOK FAIR!
MEA TESTING
As required, students in grades 3-6
will be taking the MEA standardized
tests in math, reading and writing,
beginning Monday, March 21st. We
have established a schedule that
should allow us to complete the
work in the given timeframe, but
it requires punctuality from the
students. Please ensure that your
children are at school by 8am,
and are well-rested.
It is likely that your child/ren will
have limited homework during this
time (March 21 - April 15), as
regular classes will not always
be held.
Ryan Clark (gr. 5) had fun “pie-ing” Ms.
Higgins after he recited 146 numbers in Pi.
Coming in second in this gr. 4-6 competition was
Emily Gosselin (gr. 4) who memorized 77.
WHAT IS PI?
Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the
world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in
mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the
circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is
approximately 3.14159.
Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond
its decimal point.
Pi Pie
by Kayden Ames (gr. 5)
Pie
Pi
This type of Pi is the mathematical term. The start of pie is
3.14159265358979323, and pi would
never end. Scientists know billions of
the digits that pi has. There is no pattern to pi, all the digits are different.
Pie
This type of pie is the food
product that you usually eat as a dessert. It is made up of crust, and any
berry you would like to put in.
Pi and Pie
Pi and Pie are both great
things.(That is if you like math and the
taste of pie.) But if you like both, you’ll
be good to go in life.
SKIPPING ALONG PI
CONGRATULATIONS to Arden
Carleton (gr. 6), who emerged as this
year’s Geography Bee champion!
Jack Castonia (gr. 5) is to be
congratulated for finishing as
runner-up.
When is the last day of school?
This question is being asked by some, so
here is an update...because of three
snow days, at present, the last day of
school is Tuesday, June 14th. Our
6th grade graduation is always held on
the morning of the last day, and
dismissal on the last day will be at 11am
for everyone.
This is subject to change...we will
continue to keep you informed!
As I started reciting
3.14...
I saw myself skipping along the numbers
159...
Once I get to the end I can have pie, or is it pi?
265...
It’s pie, definitely
357...
This is getting harder, no!
9...89...
Okay, I’ve taken second place
841?...
Phew, I thought it was over!
???
Oh well, I got runner-up. I’ll do better next time.

l. to r. David Shaw, Zachary Poland, Dean Tegerero and Jack Castonia get help from Science Club
