We are delighted to present important news from the year
which is nearing an end in our annual „poleposition“.
Today, I would like to take the opportunity to touch upon
a subject that is extremely important to us which is often
simply forgotten or neglected in the ordinary chaos of
everyday life: Value and appreciation – and I don‘t mean
the value and appreciation of a company.
Appreciation can consist of many elements: Praise, recogniRenate Bengel
tion, respect, fairness, body language, eye contact, etc. Even
Associate
constructive criticism can be a component of appreciation.
Many companies have relocated abroad in the course of
globalisation. Such actions resulted in economic worries for some of the employees who
were working in such locations. In some cases, their loyalty to the company was rewarded in
terms of money but it was not appreciated. Towards the end of the year, many companies say
how their employees are their most valuable assets. However, it is more important for each
individual to be seen as a person and not only as a service provider, irrespective of whether
they are old or young. Without good relations, any expressed appreciation simply feels like an
expensive gift wrapped in old newspaper. Our company not only lives together with the people
that work here, it also lives through them too and the connection can be felt. To ensure that
this remains the case, we want to make an effort and that isn‘t really much of an effort.
We hope that you enjoy reading „poleposition“.

Numerous employees honoured for their longstanding loyalty to the company.
Managing Director Thomas Pfefferle welcomed the guests to this special ceremony.
In doing so, he reminded those present of the value of being able to build upon the experience of longstanding employees as a medium-sized company. Mr Pfefferle emphasised
the fact that, in 2015, it is unusual to be able to honour 13 employees who, collectively,
have been part of the colordruck Baiersbronn team for 250 years.
HR Manager Herr Kilgus honoured the people celebrating their anniversaries and had a suitable word for each individual. He was even able to tell some lovely anecdotes in his descriptions
of the individual careers at colordruck. All of those who were celebrating their anniversary
then received the obligatory colordruck present. The following people were honoured:
For 10 years of service to the company: Emil Schuler, Bettina Günther, Fatma Ayöz,
Elena Markus, Helga Schnaase and Markus Dieterle.
For 25 years of service to the company: Elke Finkbeiner, Edmund-Peter Braun,
Alexander Weiss, Frank Bühler, Markus Hegenbarth and Turan Dilber.
For 40 years of service to colordruck Baiersbronn: Jürgen Günther.

Palliative care room at the hospital
Maintaining quality of life / donation permits the furnishing of the room
The new palliative care room was inaugurated at the
Freudenstadt district hospital this summer. colordruck
Baiersbronn made a donation towards this at the end of
2013 (as we reported). Therefore, Associates Renate Bengel
and Marlis Schwedes were present at the inauguration
ceremony alongside Theo Blum, Authorised Representative From left to right: Theo Blum,
of the Freudenstadt District Hospitals (KLF), Nursing Director Renate Merkl, Renate Bengel, Marlis
Schwedes and Head Physician Erich
Renate Merkl and Head Physician Erich Arnold.
Arnold inaugurated the palliative
care room at the hospital.
Patients suffering from an advanced disease and with a
limited life expectancy are given medical, nursing and
pastoral care and support here. The aim is to reduce pain and other symptoms as
well as to provide or maintain the best possible quality of life for the patient. The
patients and their relatives are also provided with support in the event that they are
suffering from physical, emotional and social stress. Theo Blum and Renate Merkl
showed their appreciation for the donation from colordruck, without which it would
not have been possible to furnish the palliative care room. „Unfortunately, there is
no public money available for this type of patient care...“, explained Erich Arnold.
Baiersbronn donation to social welfare work
Many years ago, the colordruck Baiersbronn associates and managing directors
decided to make donations towards good causes instead of giving presents to
customers. Consequently, the company has been able to generously support projects such as the awning on the „Schelcklewiesen shared playground“, the palliative
care room at the Freudenstadt district hospital, the Freudenstadt counselling service
and the conversion of the Murgtalhalle at the school centre in Murg in the past.
The employees at
the Baiersbronn
social welfare
centre were also
given new and

Supporting local clubs
colordruck Baiersbronn also supports the important youth work carried out by the
local sport clubs. Consequently, the youth teams from SGM Murgtal (SV MitteltalObertal, SV Baiersbronn, VFR Klosterreichenbach and SV Huzenbach) have recently
been able to show off their new outfits. colordruck Baiersbronn has sponsored
the new zip-up tops. The football teams from the Murg Valley districts expressed
a desire for everybody representing the clubs to provide a uniform appearance in
the Northern Black Forest. The trainers and teams thanked colordruck Baiersbronn
by giving both associates, Ms
Renate Bengel and Ms Marlis
Schwedes, flowers and a gift
hamper. We would also like
to thank HR Manager, Jürgen
Kilgus, for the excellent processing of this youth campaign.

Magical summer night
The unforgettable open day was the highlight of 2014. Our
summer party was postponed in favour of this wonderful event.
In 2015, the colordruck Baiersbronn workforce finally met
again to enjoy the popular, traditional summer party on the
company premises. Supported by associate, Renate Bengel,
the commercial apprentices assumed full responsibility for
the organisation of the event this year.
In almost Mediterranean conditions, the employees were
able to sit together and enjoy the culinary delicacies, the
cool drinks and the excellent music. The evening was rounded off with a magician. His tricks were responsible for some thought-provoking,
questioning expressions. This „magical summer night“ was very special. It was
wonderful to experience how it is possible to find time to celebrate and laugh together
in our fast-paced world... deep into the night.

colordruck Baiersbronn investing in the future
colordruck Baiersbronn
is continuing to invest!
Once again, colordruck is
demonstrating how deep
rooted the company is in
the region. By purchasing
the new Speedmaster XL
106, an eight-colour printer
manufactured by Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, the
company has expanded its
machine pool and once again
demonstrates the following:
The latest technology and
sustainability ideally complement each other in the field of print production. colordruck
Baiersbronn has been following a detailed investment plan for many years. The objective of
this comprehensive plan is to systematically ensure that the printer and punching machine
pool is kept up-to-date. With the new „eight-colour“ Speedmaster, colordruck Baiersbronn
has reinforced its position as a technological leader in the section. With the new Heidelberger
XL 106-8, colordruck is in a position to either print 8 colours + varnish in a single step or to
print 2 colours on the reverse side of the box and, in the same printing step, print a further
6 colours + varnish on the front side of the box once the printed sheet has been turned.
Managing Director Frank Büsching is aware that the packaging market is demanding an
increasingly higher number of spot colours. So-called corporate colours of the customers are
becoming increasingly important. With the new eight-colour machine, colordruck Baiersbronn
is providing an effective response to this trend.
„It goes without saying that positive experiences with Inpress Control and Netprofiler for
a constant and reproducible print quality have been incorporated into the new machine
configuration“, explains Managing Director Martin Bruttel. The new XL 106-8 has already
been taken into consideration in the PSO certification cycle. It has successfully passed the
impression test in accordance with the Process Standard Offset (PSO).

Formpack – Packaging with contours
It doesn‘t always have to be rectangular.
Would you like a package in the shape of a face, a bottle, a racing care or a shoe?
The colordruck Formpack solution gets your packaging into shape –
we promise! The diversity is almost limitless, sparks your creativity and
astonishes your customers. Rectangular is yesterday‘s news.
colordruck Formpack packages are telescope boxes manufactured from 100 %
solid cardboard.
In doing so, the lid and base can take on almost any kind of shape.
With Formpack, confectionary and consumer goods at POS are particularly
noticeable: Who doesn‘t want to be in the limelight from time to time.
Your products should enjoy the limelight all of the time.
Formpacks manufactured by colordruck are a real solution because they can
be refined in many ways in addition to the individual shape: Hot foil embossing,
spot-coating or Cast & Cure ensure that the product packaging looks even
better. The viewing window allows people to look inside at the content inside.
We are also more than happy to fill the Formpack packaging with your products.

Visit by the FDP Member of State
Parliament, Dr. Timm Kern
Educational and economic issues were the main focus of the two-hour visit of
Dr. Timm Kern to colordruck Baiersbronn.
In light of the acute shortage of specialists, the FDP education expert, Dr.
Timm Kern, explained his idea of good education policy: „I emphatically
promote a cross-party school peace and diverse educational services. The
Green Party-SPD Party standardisation of our school system must be s topped.
Secondary and vocational schools must be strengthened in p articular in
order to obtain well-educated specialists.“ colordruck B
 aiersbronn has taken
up the current challenges. For instance, ultra-modern production plants
represent an attractive work environment. The well-educated workforce
ensures the quality of the products and is supported by means of advanced
training. In terms of the current streams of refugees, Managing Director
Frank Büsching described
the chance for colordruck
Baiersbronn as follows:
„We will make specific use
of this immigration in order
to also obtain specialists
for a structurally-weak
area.“

Once again, colordruck
Baiersbronn attended the
„Top Job“ fair this year at
the Freudenstadt Kurhaus.
On 16.07.2015, colordruck
was present alongside
other training organisations
from the region at the
annual vocational training
fair. For the third time in
a row, we fielded questions from the masses of school pupils and people searching for
apprenticeships. Our 4 apprenticeship areas of Print Media Technology Expert, Packaging
Technology Expert, Digital and Print Media D
esigner as well as Industrial Clerk were
presented by first-year and
second-year apprentices
Paul Luther, Kim Öhrlein,
Fabienne Finkbeiner and
Pascal Wahlich. Once again,
the fair was a complete
success and new contacts
were made with lots of
school pupils.

Öhrlein, Fabienne Finkbeiner, Lydia
Seeger, Pascal Wahlich and HR
Manager Jürgen Kilgus.
New apprentices starting their professional careers
On September 1, it was time again: Seven young people started their apprenticeship at
colordruck Baiersbronn. We are delighted to welcome the new arrivals to the team! After
an obligatory welcome and induction day, we started the second day with an interesting
joint workshop. Boxes were the sole focus of the third day. Together with HR Manager
Jürgen Kilgus, we visited a large box manufacturer in order to see and experience
what the sustainable raw material, „wood“ is turned into. Wood is the material that the
apprentices will have a lot to do with over the course of the next few years at colordruck.
Standing, from left to right: HR Manager Jürgen Kilgus, Lindor Nuhiu, Granit Krasniqi, Markus Ilin and Nina Hoppen.
Sitting, from left to right: Alexander Braidt, Michael Träupmann and Hakan Yalcinkaya.

„Gautschfest“ initiation ceremony
for two printing apprentices
The German term
„Gautschen“
(or „couching“)
originally refers
to the placing of
the freshly-drawn
sheet of paper
from the screen
on to a felt base
as an initial
drainage step
following d rawing
of the paper. „Gautschen“, a book printing tradition, also refers to an initiation
ceremony following completion of the studies in which the a pprentice, the
couching master, the first and second packer and a sponge holder participate.
The ceremony is a ccompanied by a number
of witnesses and viewers and colordruck is no
exception! For the first time in the history of
colordruck Baiersbronn, two female colleagues
were the main protagonists in the couching
ceremony. They had to ensure this traditional
act regardless of the consequences. Martina
Dieringer and Ramona Haas received their
„Gautschbrief“ (certificate) from the teacher
following the wet spectacle.
colordruck packaging contest – CPC
Six winners of the
„1st colordruck
packaging
contest“ claimed
their winner‘s
prize on May
20. At 7:15 and
in light rain, the
winners set off to
the Rust-based
„Europapark“ theme park together with HR Manager Jürgen Kilgus. The six
apprentices quickly started their eventful day with the „Silverstar“ high-speed
roller coaster. Speeds of 130 km/h and an acceleration of 4G got everybody‘s
hearts pumping. Eurosat was responsible for the next adrenaline boost. The
apprentices were then able to catch their breaths somewhat in the Eurotower. A
special treat was the joint lunch in the first looping restaurant in the world, „FoodLoop“. Food and drinks ordered in advance via touch screen hurtle to the table
via a sophisticated rail system complete with loops. Refreshend and fortified, the
apprentices went for round 2: An afternoon filled with Europapark attractions and
shows. Kim Öhrlein, Ramona Haas, Martina Dieringer, Pascal Wahlich, Paul Luther
and Kevin Sener
started their journey back home
at 17:30, just
before the park
closed for the
evening. The end
of an eventful and
wonderful day for
our apprentices.

Responsibly packaged
Problems posed by climate change requires entrepreneurial foresight. By using
CO2-compensated packaging, you are acting in an exemplary manner and
positioning yourself as a forward-looking company.
„Climate-neutral“ means that exact greenhouse gas calculations are made for packages
and these emissions are compensated via the purchase of certificates. Thanks to a CO2
calculator from ClimatePartner which has been tested and is recognised by TÜV Austria, we
are in the position to determine the remaining CO2 emission from packaging productions,
both in an order-specific manner as well as for this entire process chain. In doing so, the
calculation meets the requirements of ISO Standard 16759.
Why do climate protection projects save greenhouse gas emissions?
Climate protection projects lead to wind farms being constructed instead of power
stations for instance. These emission savings can be traded in the form of emission saving
certificates. In order to do so, a climate protection project must meet certain criteria such
as a long-term saving of greenhouse gas emissions for example.
As greenhouse gases spread themselves evenly in the atmosphere, the generated
greenhouse gas effect is a global phenomenon. According to the principle of climate
neutrality, the part of the globe in which the emissions are generated or saved is therefore
irrelevant. In fact, the global reduction of greenhouse gas concentration in the atmosphere
is crucial.
The market mechanism of
emission trading originated
from the Kyoto Protocol
and the Clean Development
Mechanism (CDM) which
was defined there. For
emerging and developing
countries, emission trading is a significant drive for the transfer of clean technologies and a
sustainably-oriented economic development.
With regard to CO2-compensated packaging, we advise our customers to purchase
reputable „Gold Standard“ climate protection certificates. This ensures that the projects are
meaningful in terms of climate as well as development policy. The „Gold Standard“ is the
first independent quality standard for greenhouse gas reduction projects in the context of
the CDM Clean Development Mechanism.
Depending on the product specification, the additional cost for climate-neutral
packaging amounts to approx. 2 % of the order value.
Gold Standard for climate protection projects
Involving the WWF and 40 further NGOs
(non-governmental organisations), the
„Gold Standard“ was developed for c limate
protection projects and sets particularly strict requirements in terms of sustainable
development and the incorporation of the local population. It was previously only a pplicable
in the context of renewable energies, energy efficiency and waste management. The
„Gold Standard“ method was extended with the assumption of the CarbonFix Standard
in 2013, which means that land use and forest projects can now be certified using this
method.
You receive the „climate-neutral packaging“ label complete
with your individual identification number for compensated
packaging orders.
We are happy to assist you – you can view possible
climate protection projects on our homepage at

We attach MASSIVE importance to SAFETY
Tuesday +++ May 12 2015 +++ The fire
alarm is triggered +++ Sirens warn the e ntire
colordruck workforce +++ An e mergency
is simulated. As part of this safety drill, all
employees were requested to leave their workplace and stop the current order on the machine.
The company then had to be e vacuated via the
shortest escape route. Each and every person
was requested to move towards their assigned
assembly point and to report to their responsible
evacuation officer. The following task was to wait. The all-clear was only issued
once it had been documented that all employees had reached their assembly
point. This first evacuation of the entire company was prepared and c oordinated
by Fire Officer Michael Beilharz. He is also a member of the voluntary fire
service in Baiersbronn. His conclusion: „Bearing in mind that this was the first
exercise of this kind, the result was satisfactory. The exercise took place quickly
without any major incidents. It was not to be expected that the evacuation would
take place without any problems at the first attempt. The next evacuation can be
optimised using the experiences of this exercise“, says Michael Beilharz.
Advanced training for first-aiders
First aid and occupational safety is massively important at colordruck and is
a fixed component of the company philosophy. „Old hands“ as well as new
first-aiders were trained in the company on two Saturdays during the year
(May 11 and June 6). Numerous theoretical training content was learned and
then applied during the subsequent practical exercises. This advanced and
further training was prepared and implemented by Alexander Martinez on
behalf of the German Red Cross.
Important visitors at colordruck
CDU Primary Candidate, Guido Wolf, was also in Baiersbronn
at part of his annual summer tour. He didn‘t want to miss
out on a visit to colordruck Baiersbronn, one of the most
modern companies in Europe and technological leader
in the packaging sector. After the factory tour, Guido Wolf
was impressed by the innovation and the cross-branch
packaging solutions: everything oozed premium quality,
functionality and economy. Following his visit, Mr Wolf was
more convinced than ever before that sustainable growth
is being created in Baiersbronn: Continuous investments are being made in the
training and further training of employees. Although it would have been wonderful
to discuss various
topics with the
leading politician,
it was not possible for this to take
place due to the
tight schedule.
After 90 minutes, Guido Wolf
continued on his
summer tour.
