YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD Please see the insert for information on all the Mission Works supported by Weber Road Church of Christ. You can make a difference by sending them cards of encouragement. Garret DerouinWebster, Wisconsin Garret Derouin is currently preaching at the Burnett County Church of Christ in Webster, Wisconsin. Brother Derouin graduated in 2006 from the Southwest School of Bible Studies. He and his family then accepted an invitation to work with a small group of faithful brethren, located Northwest Wisconsin. Burnett is a county of approximately 17,500+ people. Three of the four adjoining counties have no congregations of their own. The last census indicates that more than half of the population in these counties, totaling more than 50,000+ people, claim no religious affiliation. This makes the potential for reaching open hearts quite promising. Garret’s family is very involved with the work of the church. His wife’s name is Sheila and they have three daughters, Nikki, Julie & Toni. Local Television- Search TV and KIII—TV 3 Since 1964, Weber Road has been on the local ABC affiliate, KIII-TV 3. For 45 years, George Pledger recorded a spot which ran throughout the year on weekdays. Since 2010, Mark Hammitt has been presenting these one minute spots which air five days a week and 52 weeks per year. We are also now on Me-Tv. You can watch the broadcast in the Corpus Christi area on the following channels: Over the air: KIII 3.2, Grande-281 & Time Warner-876. This advertisement gives Weber Road a recognizable presence in the Coastal Bend and helps people to be familiar with the Lord’s church. These daily lessons focus on the Bible, the church, daily Christian living and more. An invitation to attend worship and to study the Bible are also a regular part of this program. Weber Road also supports Search TV. “In Search of the Lord’s Way” is a national television program that began in 1980 and is seen on 76 Broadcast stations, 205 cable and public access stations, 45 radio stations and 2 satellite networks. It is overseen by the Edmund Church of Christ in Edmund, Oklahoma. This program can be viewed every Sunday morning at 7:30 AM on KZTV—Channel 10. WBS teachers are volunteers who mail out the lessons and grade them when they are returned. The church provides the materials and postage in support of the World Bible School efforts. Weber Road has been involved with this program since November 1992. This is a great work of evangelism. If you are interested in this program, please contact the office. Missions Newsletter “Go Into All The World” - Jesus The responsibility to carry out the Great Commission is at the forefront of our mission efforts at the Weber Road Church of Christ! Jesus gave us a directive to teach and preach His gospel to the whole world. (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16; Luke 45-48) We have been privileged to support works in our local community, our nation and in other nations. We pray for the Lord’s continued blessings after many souls have been brought to Christ and will enjoy an eternity in heaven as a result of brave Christians who serve God as missionaries and preachers. Within the last year, missionaries, preaching students, and evangelistic efforts have been supported in the following places: Corpus Christi, Austin (Texas), Denver (Colorado), Webster (Wisconsin), Tilton (New Hampshire), Colombia, Ghana, Jamaica, Honduras, Russia, New Zealand, Australia and Saint Vincent Island. As members of Weber Road congregation give generously, many of these funds are doing good throughout the world. There are also many members who are actively involved in teaching the Gospel themselves throughout the world. World Bible School and the use of Bible Correspondence Courses are used productively. Thousands in our local community have also received newsletters and we hope these will reap souls for Christ. Hundreds have studied God’s word with the help of faithful members of our church family. May the Lord bless us richly, as we seek to please Him! Weber Road subscribes to “House to House, Heart to Heart” who publishes and mails a bimonthly newsletter to over 1,300 homes in the Corpus Christi community. This publication is a ministry of the Jacksonville Church of Christ in Alabama who also distributes the newsletter to over three million homes throughout the United States! Included in each newsletter are Biblical articles, offers for free Bible material, and an invitation to visit with the Weber Road Church of Christ. Copies are available in the church foyer. We are prayerful that its use will be a part of bringing souls to Christ. Local Evangelism Evangelism is a critical part of the work of the church of Christ at Weber Road. The approach to local evangelism at the Weber Road Church of Christ encompasses four elements. First, the “Encouragers” contact the visitors who attend our services by letter, phone or e-mail. They are also offered home bible studies. Second, members are encouraged to bring friends to our services including services planned to promote Christ and His Church. Third, training is also conducted so members can be confident in teaching nonChristians the gospel. Fourth, we have spots on the local TV station to promote and generate interest in the church here. James CammockHamilton, New Zealand Weber Road Mission & Evangelism Newsletter -Page 2 James Cammock has been the full-time preacher for the Hamilton Church of Christ in New Zealand for over three years now. Brother Cammock was born in New Zealand and desired to return there to preach the Gospel. He graduated from the Southwest School of Bible Studies in July of 2010. It is no secret that soul-winning is hard in New Zealand. This is a culture that has been taught to discredit Christianity and the Bible. However, James & Emily continue to be encouraged that there are still tender hearts in Hamilton that want to know God’s word. The church has approximately 30 members with a strong focus on evangelism. Hamilton is the 4th largest city in New Zealand. Hamilton is growing annually, with populations of 218,800 for the urban area and 153,100 for the territorial authority (June 2014 estimates). James is married to Emily (Sheeran) who also attended SWSBS and is from the Midtown congregation in Victoria, TX. They are expecting their first child in early 2015. George Hall Honduras Charlie DiPalma— Melbourne, Australia Charlie DiPalma and his wife, Mary, are missionaries in Melbourne, Australia. Melbourne is the capital and most populous city in the state of Victoria, and second most populous city in Australia. Melbourne has a population of 4.35 million. The Weber Road Church of Christ supports Brother DiPalma’s efforts which are overseen by the Portland Church of Christ in Portland, Texas. Brother DiPalma teaches the Sunday morning Bible class, the Sunday morning worship assembly, Wednesday night Bible class and alternates teaching the Sunday evening worship assembly with other brothers at the Church Street Church of Christ. He also teaches a Thursday class with brethren in Malaysia, Singapore and Australia through the internet. His wife, Mary, continues to put her heart and soul into teaching children’s Bible classes and preparing materials to help other sisters teach such classes, just as she did in Malaysia and India for many years. Brother DiPalma is working with several other churches in Australia including the Eastern Shore Church of Christ in Hobart, the Central North Church of Christ in Perth, the Balfour Street Church of Christ in Launceston, and the Mersey Bluff Church of Christ in Devenport. One of the many missionary works supported by the Weber Road Church of Christ is the Biblical Institute of Central America. Brother George Hall, who oversees the work in Central America, recently reported the following: In Guatemala, Brother Hall reported from JanuaryOctober 2014, evangelistic campaigns had 292 baptisms and 101 restorations; weekend evangelistic work had 254 baptisms and 303 restorations and they established 3 house churches. The number of BICA students who graduated from Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua was 76; this year there will be an additional 18. The BICA website, www.bica.info, has a new page called “Monthly Reports (2013-16)”. It is a page devoted to the campaigns and weekend work by the students relating Bible studies, Restorations, and Baptisms. George’s wife is Claudia. Dr. Augustine Tawiah-Ghana, Africa Dr. Augustine Tawiah is the president of the Ghana Bible College which presently has over 50 preaching students in their 2-3 year course in Ghana, Africa. The college has recently made tremendous strides to become accredited so it can offer additional academic programs allowing graduates to further their education. The Ghana Bible College has produced graduates that are engaged in various ministries throughout the world; however, the majority are concentrated in Ghana. Dr. Tawiah and his colleagues visit and encourage alumni of the college and report that many are successfully spreading the Word of God throughout several regions of Ghana. Many of the alumni are utilizing the skills they learned in school to develop their communities and build the Kingdom of God through evangelism and social actions such as offering Christian training to children. Dr. Tawiah says, “The Lord has been so good to us in our efforts to raise leaders. We continue to see progress amidst challenges.” World Bible School has been very active in this area of the world. Brother Augustine was converted through WBS in 1979 while still in high school. The Christian lady who corresponded with him was over 9,000 miles away in Tennessee. Brother Augustine told us that he met this lady in the years following his conversion and that she still had WBS students but since has died. Augustine’s wife is Lynn and they have two daughter’s, Abena and Adowao and one son, Kwame. Cecil Shaw—Ocho Rios, Jamaica Weber Road Mission & Evangelism Newsletter -Page 3 Fernando MadridBogota, Colombia Weber Road has supported the work in Ocho Rios, Jamaica for the last seven years. While the Midtown congregation in Victoria, Texas been the overseeing church for this work, beginning in 2015, Weber Road will be responsible for the oversight. Ocho Rios is a port town on the north coast of Jamaica with a population of about 10,000. Although Jamaica is a tourist destination, this is one of the most impoverished parts of the island. Over the last four years, there have been many improvements to this area of Jamaica. Brother Shaw is the preacher for the Central Church of Christ which has about 40 members. He is heavily involved in preaching and teaching on Sundays, conducting Bible classes throughout the week, studying with many who want to learn more about the gospel, and taking care of the church property. Brother Shaw reports that for the last five months of 2014, a student from the Jamaica School of Preaching in Kingston preaches for us two Sunday mornings each month as a part of his training. This young man is originally from Haiti. Cecil’s wife is Cluadine. Ilya Muzychenko— Murmansk, Russia Murmansk, Russia, is probably one of the hardest places to evangelize in the world. It is a port town about thirty miles from the Barents Sea with a population of 299,148 people. The saints at Murmansk face challenges from the harsh weather, extreme isolation, and a population steeped in indifference. Murmansk is north of the Arctic Circle, has continuous sub-freezing conditions from the middle of October until the middle of April, and towards the end of December, the sun does not rise at all for several days. There are no other congregations for over 1000 miles in any direction. Brother Ilya Muzychenko preaches to a congregation of about 14 faithful Christians, two of which are currently shut-ins. For a little over two years, he has been distributing copies of a DVD called “Searching for Truth” which has been translated into Russian. Ilya braves the cold to hand out DVD’s and fliers and tries to coax lost souls into studying the Bible. It is hard work, but he has shown brave devotion to the Lord and the worthy cause of bringing souls to Christ. The Weber Road Church of Christ is the sole supporter of the mission work in Bogota, Colombia. Bogota has a large metro population of over 10 million people! The minister we support is Lexy Hunt’s brother, Fernando Madrid, who has been working with the church in Lexy’s hometown of Tierralta. The church in Tierralta has grown from one congregation of 7 people to three congregations with over 180 members in about 10 years! Here are a few details: Meeting Location—The church has rented a location on a major street in the Villas de Granada neighborhood of the Northeast part of the city of Bogota. The goal is to have a selfsupporting congregation in five years. Organization and Leadership—Fernando Madrid, serves as minister of the congregation. The process of installing elders will likely require several years, but is an important goal. The church meets on Sunday 8-9 AM, Sunday School at 9:0010:30 AM, Worship Prayer Meeting and Bible Study on Wednesdays at 5:00-7:00 PM, Song Practice and Bible Study on Saturdays 5:00-7:00 PM. Fernando’s wife is Maria and they have four children, Aura, Sofia, Sefphania and Fernando. Stephen AnkamahGhana, Africa Weber Road has been supporting Stephen Ankamah since January of 2012 in his efforts to spread the Gospel in Ghana. Stephen attended the Ghana Bible College under Dr. Augustine Tawiah. In addition to holding weekly worship services, he visits members, does benevolence work, and has held mid-week classes and meetings at night. The average attendance is 55. They face many challenges in Ghana including weather, power outages, long distances between congregations, and lack of transportation but continue traveling throughout the area to spread the Gospel. Stephen’s wife is Edith and they have five children, Stephen, Stephanie, Alvina, Benedict & Curtis.
