Scripture Reflection
Have you ever been in a group of people—maybe on a tour, at a social gathering, or
at church—and discovered that you have just been talking with a well-known author,
corporate CEO, great scholar, or politician? Your first thought is the hope that you
didn’t say anything to embarrass yourself; but your second thought is how much they
seemed like such “regular” folks. What is it that makes people seem so “regular”?
Today’s readings give us a clue when they stress the importance of humility.
It is so hard for us not to tell the first person who will listen how busy we are,
how hard we work, how much money we donate, and how important our job titles
are. We think these accolades make a difference to people, and if we don’t tell
them, how will they ever know? But if our actions demonstrate our values, people will
recognize our worth on their own. The words of Jesus show us how much better it is
to let someone else recognize our worth than to be embarrassed because someone
did not.

Second Reading
Conduct your affairs with humility and God will favor you
(Sirach 3:17-18, 20, 28-29).
(Psalm 68).
You have approached Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant
(Hebrews 12:18-19, 22-24a).
When invited to dine, take the lowest place. Those who humble
themselves will be exalted (Luke 14:1, 7-14).
Loving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have
appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask
you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism.
We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded
on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless
parents that they may form their children in faith.
Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give
consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence.
Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human
dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Mother Henriette Delille, pray for
us that we may be a holy family. Amen.

Adoration Chapel Closing for Labor Day
St. Catherine of Siena Parish and School take the commitment
to protect children very seriously. All of our employees and
volunteers must complete the following two-part process before working with children in our parish:
• Attend a safe environment training session. The sessions
last approximately one hour. A list of training sessions can
be found at https:/ / www.arch-no.org/safe environment.
Adults may attend any session offered by the Archdiocese.
There will be a session here at SCS on Thursday, September 29th at 7:00 pm in the Barrett.
• Complete an online application at https:/ /
www.eappsdb.com/no. The access code is “safety.”
This makes it possible for us to run a background check.
Leaders of ministries that work with children have all received
Safe Environment information for the 2016-2017 year. The
parish office must have a list of all volunteers for each ministry
involving children before any activity begins. For additional
information please contact Michelle Alley at malley@stcatherineparish.com.
Keyless Campus
A few months ago we installed key fobs around campus. The
second phase of this project is rekeying the existing locks. All
locks will be re-keyed in the next week. If you have an old key,
they will no longer work. If you need a new key, please see
the parish office.

Flood Relief
“Centered on Christ, Ablaze with Love!”
A special convoy featuring two trailer trucks filled to the brim with donations for area residents devastated by
flood waters arrived at St. Thomas More Church in Baton Rouge on Saturday, August 20. The items were collected
by parishioners of St. Catherine of Siena and were a special response to the kindness STM showed to the Metairie
community when it was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Four Jefferson Parish deputies led the convoy from
Metairie to Baton Rouge. Parishioners at both churches helped unload the many donations.

Beginning this Weekend at SCS!
Inspirational Catholic Books, DVDs, CDs & Brochures
We are proud to present new titles from Lighthouse Catholic Media. These resources present a practical and effective program to
help Catholics know their faith . . . to keep their faith! We all live busy, busy lives. Finding the time to learn about our faith can be
difficult. But now, we are able to meet you where you are!
On the way into church, you will see a stand offering different Books, DVDs, and CDs. These feature some of the most inspiring
Catholic speakers -- bishops, priests, deacons and eminent Catholic lay men and women. The Books, DVDs, and CDs will be available after every Mass. When these are gone -- they're gone. A new set with different titles and speakers will be ordered. We encourage you to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity... for yourselves and to share with others…friends and family members,
Godchildren, college students…
Below is just a sample of what will be available:
CDs:
The Mass Explained – by Fr. Larry Richards
Love and Marriage – by Johnnette Benkovic
The Healing Power of Confession – by Dr. Scott Hahn
Anger and Forgiveness – by Deacon Dr. Bob McDonald
Why a Protestant Pastor Become Catholic – by Dr. Scott Hahn
Booklets:
Prayer Book for Spouses
What happened at Fatima?
DVDs
What Every Catholic Needs to Know about the Bible
Books
Rome Sweet Home – by Dr. Scott Hahn
33 Days to Morning Glory – Evangelization Editions
We ask for a donation of $2.00 per booklet, $3.00 per CD, 4.00 per book and $5.00 per DVD to help continue this program. Checks can be made
payable to the parish. Donations will be used towards the purchase of additional materials. Questions? Contact Michelle Alley at the Parish Office.

Passion and Purpose Live: March 10, 2017
Notre Dame Seminary Gala & Auction:
September 24
Purchase tickets today for “Passion & Purpose Live” with renowned speaker and author Matthew Kelly on Friday, March
10, 2017, on the Southshore at St. Dominic, or Sunday,
March 12, 2017, on the Northsore at the Northshore Harbor
Center! Living Everyday with Passion & Purpose led by Matthew Kelly, invites us all to identify God’s voice in our lives
and the specific purpose for which we’ve been created. Matthew inspires attendees to apply the genius of Catholicism to
every aspect of our lives including prayer and spirituality,
work, dating and marriage, personal finances, health and well
being, parenting, and community involvement. Matthew Kelly,
and musician, Eliot Morris, prepare a unique message inspired
by God and the teachings of the Church that promises to radiate in your life. Consider this: most people take more time to
plan their annual vacation than they do to discover the voice
of God and His plan for their life. To order tickets for $39,
visit http:/ / DynamicCatholic.com/ New Orleans or call The
Catholic Foundation at 527-5788.
The Notre Dame Seminary Gala & Auction will be held on September 24, 2016 beginning with the Patron Party at 6:00pm.
