Saas‐Fee has almost 1700 inhabitants and is situated about 1800 m above sea level on a high
plateau of the Saas valley to the west of the valley floor and above the neighbouring villages of
Saas‐Almagell, Saas‐Grund and Saas‐Balen.
Saas Fee is set in unique surroundings of mountains and glaciers that afford as much
opportunity for relaxing at leisure in the winter as they do in the spring, summer and
autumn. The skiing area has almost 100 km of slopes of all levels of difficulty. Taken
together with the neighbouring areas of Saas‐Grund and Saas‐Allmagell, the slopes cover 145
km in total. There are 22 railways to take skiers up. Because the slopes of Saas‐Fee are
largely north‐facing and at high altitude, they are considered to be 100% sure of snow.
The longest slope, from Mittelallalin to Saas‐Fee, descends 1778 m in height over a distance
of 14 km.

Saas‐Fee and the Saas valley in general offer a wide range of activities for hikers and
mountaineers. Skiing is possible even in summer, and there are 3 ski lifts on the Feegletscher
from the Mittelallalin station of the Metro Alpin funicular railway at 3456
This station houses the highest‐altitude rotating restaurant and the largest (5500 m³ in
volume) ice pavilion in the world.
