GETTING TO KNOW THE MEMBERS
JIM AND JEAN POWERS
Jean Powers was born in Winters, TX. Jim was born in Los Angeles, Ca. They have been married 46 years,
have 3 children and 8 grandchildren. Jean retired from Clark County School District, Las Vegas, NV in 2000
when they moved to UT. Jim is retired USAF and Civil Service.
They have lived in numerous states due to USAF, but have lived in South Weber, UT for 10 years due to
Jim's employment at Hill AFB. He retired 3 yrs ago. Their interests include traveling, motorcycles, cars and
just being “Retired and Lovin Life”.
Jean has wanted a Corvette for years and finally purchased a 2006 Daytona Sunset Orange convertible on
July 9th this year. She “Fell in love” with it the first time she drove it. What a fabulous car!!!!!
HOWARD AND BEVERLY GRIFFITH
Bev and Howard have been married for 27 years and have 4 wonderful children and 2 gorgeous
grandchildren. They live in the hills of Herriman which is in the southwest corner of the Salt Lake valley.
Owning a corvette had always been a dream and expected to have this one for a long time.
DOUG GRIFFITH
Originally from Illinois, Doug grew up primarily in Utah except for a few brief years spent in California and
Kansas. His father was with the US Department of Justice, so travel was something the kids became quite
accustom to.
He went to school in Ogden and Salt Lake then graduated from Bountiful High in ’68. Has 2 daughters, Tiffany
and Jennifer, and a son, Justin. All the children are grown and have kids of their own. Two of the grand
daughters have given him great granddaughters. All in all, it’s a pretty great thing except for admitting publicly
that he is old.
Work career has always been in electrical construction. However during the ’80 s, he was with the University
School of Medicine bio-engineering department, then as Systems Engineer for ARUP Laboratories in
Research Park, off campus. Hired on with GSL Electric of Sandy in 1988 and has been there ever since.
Hobbies include Harley’s, four wheelers, wood working and anything associated with hanging around my
girlfriend Robin Cowan.
KEN BEMENT
Ken was born and raised in Salt Lake City. He attended East High School and the University of Utah, where
he graduated in Accounting in 1978. Ken is the owner of Bement and Company, Certified Public Accountants.
Ken is the proud father of 6 children and 12 grandchildren and makes his home in North Salt Lake, Utah.
Outside of the office, Ken is active in church and community affairs. His hobbies and interests tend to be
7
focused on outdoor activities, including hunting, riding ATV’s, boating, his 1956 Chevrolet and of course
driving his Torch Red 2010 Corvette Coupe. This is the first Corvette Ken has owned after dreaming about it
for 50 years.
EMIL AND BARB STACH
Emil (Sonny) and Barb were both born in Minnesota, he in Breckenridge and she in Roseau (where Polaris
was started). Emil is a VietNam vet, having spent 3 and 1/2 years there. He retired from the Army after 21
years, while he was in the military he worked on helicopters, in maintenance. When he retired he went into
fabricating helicopters for areo medical (Lifeflight, for example). His last job was with YESCO in the fabricating
signs department. Back problems forced him to retire in 2003.
Barb has worked at many jobs, having moved so much. She worked for a carseat factory in Kitzingen (for the
Germans, very interesting given the language barrier) and a mess hall in Nuremburg. Most recent job was for
Select Portfolio Servicing, until she retired in 2009.
They have two sons, Brad (40, married to Esther with three children, Alexa 13, Ashley 10, and William 7) and
Jason (32, married to Trisa with two children, Carson 5, and Cheyenne 16 months). Jason's family lives with
us, we enjoy the company of the grandkids.
Emil has a 79 Corvette that is now in 10,000 pieces. His back problems limit the time he can spend putting it
back together. His choice for purchasing his 2005 Corvette and the 79 are that they are American made. He
has had a love for Corvettes ever since the Stingray came out! They also own a 2009 Cadillac CTS and a
2003 Dodge Stratus. Emil has a passion for computers, spends many hours on it. Barb loves bowling and
belongs to a Ladies league on Wed nights. They both love to travel!

PEACH DAYS
Peach Days was held on Sept 10th and 11th in Brigham City, Utah. The event started out with a poker run on
Friday, Sept 10th. It was one of the better poker runs with us taking the back roads to Honeyville, Bear River
City, Corinne, and ending at Pioneer Park in Brigham City. A catered BBQ concluded the poker run.
On Saturday, Sept 11th, we checked in at Hansen Chevrolet and then either headed to the parade or to the
car show. The weather was great this year with temperatures in the mid to high seventies. Corvette numbers
9
were down a bit this year, but overall, there were 1,065 cars on display, a new record. Crowds were heavy
and steady all day long. It was a good show. Pictures of peach days follow and will also be on the web page.
