Welcome back from Winter Break. I hope everybody had a nice
and relaxing break. We came back and got right to work. On
Tuesday, January 7, we celebrated our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders for
their MAP test results. Our students showed tremendous
improvement from the test at the beginning of the year to the MAP
test in December. We recognized the students who made the most
growth from Fall to Winter in each class in both math and reading.
The students stood up in front of their peers and received a round of
applause and an Extraordinary Learning for All bracelet.
I would like to thank the families of our Students of the Month. We
have had outstanding participation at the dinners. Only one or two
families have not been attending. We hope this trend continues. We
would also like to see our great participation in our parent classes
continue. We have had over 400 people attend both math and
reading night. We hope to see over 400 people again on February 4
for Writing Night. Our teachers will be sharing strategies you can
use at home to support your children with their writing. Students in
attendance will receive a journal and a pen. As usual, dinner will be
served after the class.
As you know, we are in a new calendar year. This provides us all
with the opportunity to make a tax credit donation to our school.
Single parents can donate up to $200 and married couples can
donate up to $400. If a large donation is too much, you can donate
$10, $20, or as much as you can afford at a time. That is what I do.
The district removes $20 from each of my paychecks and this
lessens the burden of the donation. When you do your taxes, you
will receive a dollar for dollar reimbursement of this donation. For
example, if you receive a $400 refund from the state, your refund
will be $600 if you donated $200 or $800 if you donated $400.

If you end up owing the state money, what you owe will be reduced by the amount of the
donation. For example, if you owe the state $400, you would only owe $200 or $0
depending on the amount of donation you made. For your convenience, I have included
the tax credit donation form with this newsletter. You can even come into the office and
Ms. Gloria can swipe your debit or credit card on a district cell phone. As you know,
school funding in Arizona is at or near the bottom in the country. This is a way we can
help increase our funding and help continue to provide our students with worthwhile
learning experiences such as field trips and tutoring.
As we move forward in the second semester, we hope to see you at many events. We
have Bring your Parent to School Day for 1st grade on February 28 and for Kindergarten
on March 5. We have our big AIMS BINGO on April 8 and the 4th grade concert the
same evening. We will also have AIMS practice day on April 8 to get our students used
to the testing environment. We also have a Kindergarten concert on February 13. Your
continued support is greatly appreciated, especially as we prepare for our Super Bowl, the
AIMS test in April.
Educationally yours,
Michael Winters
Principal
