FITUR 2013 Meliá surprises the FITUR audience with Mallorca’s first “play and stay” entertainment experience: Sol Katmandu Park & Resort • The resort, of 22,000 m2, will open this summer with classic themed resort hotel facilities, new generation entertainment attractions and two mini-golf courses. • “Boro” the Yeti and the other Katmandu characters were presented at FITUR to bring the new themed resort experience to life for the audience. • Gabriel Escarrer, Vice Chairman and CEO, introduced the new resort as an example of the company’s desire to innovate and reposition current “sun and beach” properties Madrid, 30 January, 2013. Meliá Hotels International has presented its latest and most innovative project today at the FITUR Tourist Trade Fair in Madrid: Sol Katmandu Park & Resort. This new resort concept, a joint venture between Meliá and the Katmandu Group, provides the island of Mallorca with its first resort hotel and theme park combination, featuring the new generation entertainment attractions to complement other available “sun and beach” properties through the island’s only exciting “play and stay” resort entertainment experience for all ages. In the words of General Manager Simon Hirst, the 22,000 square metre combination of theme park and resort hotel is “the best of both worlds”: a classic, renovated resort hotel featuring 422 comfortable guestrooms and a great choice of restaurant and bar options, as well as an American-style theme park in the back yard that incorporates the latest generation of interactive attractions for kids, youth and families. Sol Katmandu Park & Resort is the flagship brand of the joint venture between Meliá and Katmandu Group signed in December 2012. Mallorca is the first location for this venture in a long term plan to launch a new experience of entertainment and leisure holiday accommodations. Located in a densely populated beach area, Sol Katmandu Park & Resort is full of fantasy and fun. From the upsidedown "House of Katmandu" where nothing is as it seems, to thrilling interactive experiences such as the "wild west" shoot-out of "Desperados" and the genuine hauntings of “The Asylum”, there is something for everyone! Guests can also enjoy choosing from two 18-hole mini-golf adventure courses, located within the resort for themed play by day or night. All of these exciting entertainment options are especially formulated for the enjoyment of holiday guests to offer high intensity entertainment in a convenient, flexible, budget conscious manner. Benefits of Booking with Sol Katmandu Park & Resort Sol Katmandu Park & Resort guests will enjoy unrestricted entry to all theme park attractions every day of their stay until 6 in the evening as well as other exclusive benefits and savings at the theme park. The resort hotel offers additional special opportunities that link it directly to the theme park experience. For example, the Kids’ Club (Coming Soon!) adds a new activity for the enjoyment of the youngest visitors. Katmandu characters such as “Boro” the Yeti and other legendary creatures meet and interact with guests in the resort hotel facilities to make the stay for guests a unique and unforgettable experience and a complete holiday package value. This places Sol Katmandu Park & Resort in the forefront of developing original entertainment and accommodation options for all ages of holiday guests to Mallorca. Benefits of Booking with any Meliá Hotel in Mallorca Meliá is also extending theme park benefits to its other 19 hotels in Mallorca, where guests will receive special entertainment rewards at Katmandu Park, along with taxi rates only for Meliá Hotel guests. By choosing to book at Meliá in Mallorca, this benefits package specifically for Meliá guests guarantees they will receive the best value in the marketplace for admission to any Katmandu Park. Gabriel Escarrer, Meliá Vice Chairman and CEO, shared the stage with a few Katmandu characters during the Meliá press conference at FITUR, and affirmed that he is convinced that “diversification and innovation is the best way to successfully renovate and reposition our mature tourism destinations in a highly competitive international market”. As partner in the new venture with Meliá, Katmandu Group CEO Scott Demerau stated, “the resort hotel makes Sol Katmandu Park & Resort in Mallorca a holiday destination itself, creating a unique experience in Spain which combines accommodation, sport and unlimited fun all just a few metres away from one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean”. Press conference attendees had exclusive photo opportunities with the animated “Dog” from Katmandu, and each received a commemorative plush souvenir representing the Katmandu Yeti.
