ULT:25 - Stirling Ultracold
Ultra low to GO. -86˚C storage, wherever, whenever. ULT:25 Radically different— designed to be moved. Portable Ultra Low Temperature Freezer Product Overview Applications: The Shuttle™ weighs less than 40 lbs / 18 kg. It’s easy to pick up and move. It’s ideal for personal desktop use, benchtop or mobile applications on land, sea or in the air. Because it doesn’t use dry ice or LN2, there is no need for replenishment, ever. It doesn’t generate potentially hazardous CO2 vapors. You don’t need a HAZMAT certification to transport. Clinical trial administrators can manage cold chain custody from door to door to assure the integrity of pharmaceuticals and minimize loss or liability. When disaster strikes, humanitarian relief workers can depend on the efficacy of vaccines and medicines shipped directly from the pharmaceutical company to anywhere in the world. Cold Chain Custody Welcome to the Shuttle™, an innovative, reliable solution for small volume storage at -86°C. Shuttle™ is bringing ultra low temperature storage to places never before imagined. Places conventional cascade freezers can’t go or won’t work. Remote locations where stable power and dry ice are far away. Places where people need medicine, where research gets done, where science demands certainty. Spacious 0.9 cu.ft. (25 liter) interior volume accommodates a variety of inventory options. The Shuttle™ is ultra portable. It doesn’t use dry ice. It’s lightweight, but rugged. It’s whisper quiet. It doesn’t use refrigeration compressors, thermoelectric peltier or LN2. It uses something different, better, smarter, generating uniform interior temperature ±0.75°C top to bottom. The Shuttle™ uses environmentally friendly, green-energy technology. Power consumption at its most efficient temperature of -86°C is 150 watts, the same as operating a conventional light bulb. 2 ULT:25 -86˚ C Ultra Low Temperature Portable Freezer Other Uses: Pharmaceutical distribution, drug trials, cold chain management. Clinical outreach, pickup and delivery, remote or satellite facility restocking. Blood, bone and tissue banking. Biorepository collection, aggregation, internal transport and frozen specimen continuity. It operates on conventional AC, 60 Hz, or 50 Hz, and low-voltage DC power (see Accessories for military DC/Mobile Power Supply). It works just as well in your lab or surgical suite, as in your car or delivery van, just about anywhere. In your facility you can put the Shuttle™ on a cart and roll it from one location to another. You can keep it running on an optional UPS (uninterruptable power supply) while you do. Surgical centers and operating suites performing autologous or regenerative medicine. Veterinary medicine, breeding, semen and ova storage and transport. Regional cancer center pathology collection and transport from outlying hospitals. Short-term, small volume back-up storage. Maintenance Personal, high-value specimen storage. The Shuttle™ requires little maintenance. Geological and archeological specimen transport and storage. A slide-out air filter is easy to clean, no tools needed. Slide out the filter, vacuum or use canned air, and slide it back into position. That's all. USDA– and FDA– mandated ultra low temperature treatment of raw fish for sushi. Slide-out air filter for easy maintenance. 6000 Poston Road Athens, Ohio 45701, USA t: 740.247.7900 / 855.274.7900 f: 740.247.7901 www.stirlingshuttle.com 3 Temperature Set Indicator Light: Glows when system is in setpoint change mode. Shuttle™ is an elegantly simple application that combines the Humm™ free-piston Stirling technology with a thermosiphon that contains no moving parts, all integrated into a rugged, lightweight cabinet with weatherproof electronic controls. Cabinet Performance: Operates indefinitely on house current or running vehicle. Humm™ is a proven, dependable, maintenance-free heat transfer process that is widely used in aerospace, energy and military applications for cooling and power generation. Uniform -86°C temperature, ±0.75°C top to bottom, range -86°C to -20°C, nominal. Environmentally friendly cooling medium. Low-voltage, energy-efficient operation with low carbon footprint. Low cost of operation; no dry ice required. Quick recovery after lid openings. The Humm™ free-piston Stirling engine contains two moving parts that float on helium gas bearings to eliminate contact wear. Freezing is performed by continuous evaporation and condensation of the cooling medium permanently sealed within the thermosiphon where ultra low temperature is constant from top to bottom. Delivery via FEDEX, UPS or USPS. Thermosiphon Energy Transfer The thermosiphon is completely sealed with no moving parts, embedded within a composite non-CFC urethane foam and vacuum-insulated panel cabinet wall. All cooling is accomplished by a simple condensation and evaporation process dependent on thethermodynamic properties as the cooling medium changes phase from liquid to a gas and back again at different temperatures. SAWTOOTH CURVE OF CONVENTIONAL COMPRESSOR CYCLE Unlike conventional refrigeration systems that cycle on/off, the Humm™ system operates continuously and modulates cooling capacity on demand to minimize uniformity deviations within the chamber. 6 ULT:25 -86˚ C Ultra Low Temperature Portable Freezer STEADY-STATE TEMPERATURE Humm™ technology is not refrigerant specific. It can use any of a variety of off-the-shelf cooling fluids such as DuPont™ SUVA®95, hydrocarbons such as ethane (widely used in Europe) or other refrigerants commonly used in global markets for household refrigerators and consumer goods. There is no on/off cycling. Component wear and energy spikes common to start/stop cycling is virtually eliminated, creating and maintaining a steady-state temperature at the desired setpoint without a sawtooth curve common to conventional refrigeration systems. Design: Rugged cabinet design withstands repeated relocation. The low-voltage linear driver generates minimal heat. Discharge temperature to the room is very low with minimal impact to the facility HVAC system or car air conditioner. High-tech cabinet, composite vacuuminsulated panel with CFC-free urethane foam for insulation and structural stability. Specifications High impact, insulated lid with latch for one-handed opening and built-in key lock. Temperature Performance, 30°C Ambient Range -20°C to -86°C, uniformity ± 0.75°C top to bottom, setpoint 1°C increments. Presets for -86°C (default), -40°C and -20°C. Net Weight, Empty 40 lbs | (18 kg) Volume 0.9 cu.ft. | (25 liters) Interior Dimensions 13.0" L x 8.7" W x 13.0" D | (330.2 x 222.2 x 330.2mm) Exterior Dimensions 27.1" L x 13.6" W x 18.3" H | (688.1 x 346.5 x 464.3mm) Power Source 120V or 220V, AC; 60Hz or 50Hz; or 12V DC from mobile source. Power demand at -86°C is typically 150 watts, nominal. Self-modulating cooling system demands 230 watts at ambient startup and decreases through initial pulldown. Access Port Cooling System One ¼" (6.3mm) access port, standard. Can be enlarged in same location to 1" (25.4mm), by special order. See Accessories. Closed-cell rigid foam sub-lid with handle to minimize moisture buildup around gasket and optimize internal temperature uniformity. Electronic controls with moisture and weather-resistant control panel. Integrated alarms. Molded and formed easy-grip handles. Pass-thru port, ¼" (6.3mm); optional 1" port (25.4mm) available. Humm™ free-piston Stirling engine. Non-contact parts on helium gas bearings eliminate wear. Non-cycling, constant frequency linear motor creates straight line temperature control by eliminating on/off cycling. The thermosiphon evaporator operates on a microcharge cooling medium of 0.3 oz to 0.6 oz (9 to 18 grams) depending on medium used. Cascade Refrigeration System None. The system contains no compressors or lubricating oils. Certification CE Certified. Other certifications pending. Specifications subject to change.
