Zoomin to the Diamond
by Tom & Mary Jane Sertik
W
e have scheduled a cruise, lunch, and a day at the
old ballpark for the club. Our plan is to attend a
baseball game at the Washington Wild Things of
the Frontier League. This is the opening weekend for the
Wild Things and they will be playing the SCHAUMBURG
BOOMERS. This will be a fun filled event. We will share
a fun filled short cruise, lunch (order from the menu), and
then attend the ball game. We will plan on arriving at the
Consol Ball Park in Washington, Pa between 1:00 & 1:30
pm. A parking area will be set aside for our Zoomers.
The game starts at 2:35 PM. We will be recognized by the
PA announcer at the 7th inning stretch. The Wild Things
make baseball exciting as they have lots of fun activities
between innings. It is a small park so you are right on top
of the field. A post game stop at Sarris for ice cream will
highlight the day!! So grab your baseball hat and plan for
a fun day at the old ball game.
Date & Time: Sunday May 17 at 9:00 AM
Meeting Place: Post Gazette Pavillion (Old Star Lake),
Rt 18 off Rt 22 East
Cruise Type: Leisure
Tickets: $7 per person for reserved seating
RSVP: May 10 to sertikspouses@verizon.net or 412-6083301. Make check out to Tom Sertik and mail to Tom
Sertik, 210 Julrich Drive, McMurry , Pa 15317. I will
order tickets & distribute at Post Gazette Pavillion.

n March 15, Dave passed away. He battled
mesothelioma since January, 2014. Dave entered
clinical trials at Bethesda Hospital for mesothelioma
the latter part of 2014, and returned home January of this
year. The clinical trials didn't help. Several members had
a chance to talk to Dave after he came home. He enjoyed
his conversations with you and appreciated hearing from
you. Dave loved his toys and speed. He owned an airplane,
BMW motorcycle, and 1999 10th Anniversary Miata. He
loved life and people. One memory I have of Dave is when
we went to Deal's Gap. Dave led the way down 11 miles
& 318 curves. We were right behind him. It was pedal to
the metal the whole way. I didn't dare look to see how fast
we were going as the speed surprised me. It was quite a
ride. We hope there are plenty of Deal's Gap roads for
Dave to zoom on in heaven.

2015 CRUISIN & ZOOMIN
SEASON
T
BY LINDA ZIMLIKI
he weather is trying to break into spring. Hopefully
by the time of our Tech Session, it will have
succeeded. This year is our club's 25th Anniversary
along with our beloved Miata which is celebrating its 25th
Anniversary. We have a great cruisin & zoomin season
planned for this year in honor the anniversary. Twenty
events and cruises are on the calendar. A list is on the front
of the newsletter and on WPMC's website. The leaders
will post their cruises on the forum as the time comes closer
for their cruise. We’ll have 3 overnighters this year. One
is to a regional event in June, Zoomin the Mountains of
East Tennessee. Another is to Watkins Glen where Mazda
will be the Marque of the event. We already have cars
signed up for this event. Look for more information on
these events in later articles. We will have an afternoon
extending into evening cruise this year, Fire on the Water.
Fifty custom floating braziers are filled with baskets of
wood and set ablaze at nightfall to produce a unique sight.
There are only a few places in the world that this takes
place. Fortunately we have this event in our backyard.
The cruises will be rated for the convenience of our
members. The leaders will rate their cruise in their article
and on forum. Below are the ratings and explanations.
LEISURE - A NICE DRIVE WHERE YOU WILL BE
ABLE TO ENJOY THE COUNTRY SIDE COMBINATION OF BELOW SPEED LIMIT & AT
SPEED LIMIT
SPORTY - A SPEEDIER RIDE SO YOU CAN ENJOY
THOSE CURVES - AT SPEED LIMIT
ZOOMIN - YOUR MIATA WILL BE MOVIN THROUGH
A LOT OF CURVES WITH SPIRITED DRIVING
Thanks to the leaders for planning the cruises for us.
There are a number of regional events this year and they
are celebrating their 20th or 25th birthday. Once I'm
notified of an event, I will announce in my article and it
will be posted on the Calendar of Event page under Events

will take you to their website with more information.

by Mike Butler, President
A
s the green of St. Patrick's Day is upon us, so comes
the green grass of spring! And with that, our 2015
cruising season is rapidly approaching, and what
a season it promises to be!
I'd like to thank everyone who helped promote and
distribute membership information about our Club at the
2015 Pittsburgh International Auto Show. This was our
Club's first event and is held at this time of year because
spring is near and cruising is right around the corner.
This event helps us draw new members, allows us to
communicate with the Mazda community, and gives us
the opportunity to check out the new models.
On Saturday, March 14th, we held our first Board Meeting
at Moon Township Mazda where we unveiled the cruises
scheduled for 2015. We have events planned for all of our
members' interests. That doesn't mean that you have to
participate in all of them, only those that interest you.
That's why we have Leisure, Sporty, and Zoomin' cruises
planned - there's something for everyone! The Activities
list shows the events we have planned for 2015. Mark your
calendar and watch for specific reservation announcements
as the event nears.
One goal of mine as President is to work to see our Club
grow. This will require everyone's help. Communication
is the key to growing our membership, and word of mouth
is probably the biggest tool we have. We are in the process
of getting each member a laminated West Penn Miata Club
sign to display on your car on all of our cruises. But please
don't stop there - display the sign anytime and anywhere
you park your car to show off your pride of our Club.
Additionally, we'll be handing out NICE cards. In case
you don't know the meaning of NICE cards, it's this:
Anytime you stop somewhere and you see another Miata,
carefully place the NICE card under their windshield
wiper. The card will inform the Miata owner of our Club
website. They can then logon and find out all about our
Club. Maybe it will entice them to join us for the fun.
Please write your name and phone number or email address
on the back of the card, so that the owner can contact you
directly allowing you the opportunity to promote the Club.
Another goal of mine is to ensure that our website is up
to date with current membership and cruise photos. The
adage "A picture is worth a thousand words" characterizes
one of the main goals of visualization. Including a group
photo and highlights from each cruise allows people visiting
our website to see our members and our fun times. If you
are a paid member of our Club, and your photo is not on
the website, please contact me and we'll be sure to have a
photo taken at your first cruise and posted to the
membership directory.
If you're visiting this site just to check us out, Welcome!
I hope you'll join us for an event this year so you can learn
more about us.
See you soon!
Get ready, get set, ZOOM!
