Deegan Closes in on Championship Points
After Rounds 11 and 12 of the LOORRS
This past weekend Brian Deegan and the #38 Rockstar Energy Drink/Makita Power
Tools Ford took to Wild West Motorsports Park for the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing
Series’ Rounds 11 and 12. This is the second time that the LOORRS has visited the
Reno, Nev. track this season. Last time Deegan was here, he swept the podium in Pro
2. As the LOORRS season winds down, Deegan was ready to make every lap count
toward his Championship run.
As the reigning Pro Lite Champion, Deegan would love nothing more than to make it
two in a row. However, coming into Reno, he sat behind points leader Sheldon Creed.
When the pressure is on, Deegan performs and that was clear in Round 11 of Pro Lite.
He to the #38 Ford straight to the lead. After a restart, Casey Currie tried to make a run
at first, but Deegan easily fended him off. While Deegan continued to pull away from
the pack, another restart on lap 10 would give RJ Anderson a chance to battle the
Rockstar Energy Drink machine. Deegan and Anderson ran side by side for much of
lap 10, but again it was Deegan who pulled away in first.
Before the checkered flag flew, Currie tried, unsuccessfully to get a solid handle on
the lead. Deegan was driving like the Champion he is and held him off for a hardfought win.
The #38 Rockstar Energy Drink/Makita Power Tools Ford was on point in Reno.
Deegan quickly took the lead in Round 11’s Pro 2 event. He led until lap 7 when
Bryce Menzies made a sudden move to take over the lead. Deegan never let him get
too far ahead, however, and regained the lead on the restart after a lap 13 caution.
After that it was all Deegan as he drove to his sixth win of the season.
Two More Podiums in Round 12
As the action returned under the lights on Saturday night, Deegan was looking to
continue his sweep. In Pro Lite Unlimited, the fight was as fierce as always. As the
frontrunners shifted positions, Deegan bided his time, waiting for the right moment to
make his move. When he did, he did so in style, with an incredible mid-air pass to take
over third from Sheldon Creed.
Deegan battled it out for second with Myles Cheek after Casey Currie passed Cheek
for the lead. Deegan and Cheek swapped positions a couple of times before Cheek
bicycled at turn two, relinquishing second for good. Currie was running in front
unopposed, but wouldn’t stay that way long, as Deegan was watchful for his chance to
take over the lead. As the white flag flew, Currie suffered a shredded right rear tire,
leaving the position wide open for Deegan to motor past and take the checkered flag
for his third win of the weekend.
As the night wrapped up with Pro 2 Unlimited, the #38 Ford was ready to rock and roll
from the third starting position. Deegan moved up to second following the aftermath
of an early battle between leaders Bryce Menzies and Patrick Clark. Deegan held onto
second easily until lap 15 when Rob MacCachren began putting on pressure. However,
Deegan’s intelligent defensive driving was giving MacCachren no chance. On lap 19,
MacCachren made a gutsy move to pull alongside Deegan, pushing the Rockstar Energy
Drink / Makita Power Tools Ford hard to the outside. Deegan stuck with it until turn two
when the longer outside line allowed MacCachren to take over second. With two few
laps left to make another charge at second, Deegan finished third in Pro 2, with his
fourth podium in Reno.
“Our team continues to work hard and it shows,” Deegan said. “The weekend was a
success and I’m going to give it my all to bring home two championships.”
After Rounds 11 and 12, Deegan continues to hold solidly onto the Pro 2 Points lead and
is in prime standing for both the Pro 2 and Pro Lite Championships with just four
rounds to go.
On Sunday, August 31, Round 9 of Pro 2 and Pro Lite will broadcast on CBS Sports at
