Humpback Visitor Center & Mountain Farm Trail, mp 5.9 BRP
The visitor center offers restrooms and gift shop during peak season. Nearby, on an
easy 0.25-mile self-guided trail, a single-room log cabin and a series of outbuildings
represent elements of a genuine nineteenth-century mountain farm. In the summer,
costumed interpreters provide demonstrations, including weaving, basket making and
gardening.
Greenstone Loop Trail, mp 8.8 BRP
A short (0.2-mile) loop with views of the Shenandoah Valley and interesting rock formations along the trail.
P. Buckley Moss Gallery, Waynesboro—4.4 miles
While the adults may enjoy the spacious art gallery highlighting the watercolors of
internationally acclaimed P. Buckley Moss, the children will certainly delight in the
large-scale dollhouse in the window, where they can count the number of mice hidden
throughout the rooms.
Constitution Park & the Greenway Trail, Waynesboro—4.5 miles
This level, paved 0.8-mile trail follows the lovely South River. Kids can ride bikes and
scooters, while adults amble. Birds, groundhogs, and geese often make appearances.

Kline’s Dairy Bar, Waynesboro—5.0 miles

purple building.
Ridgeview Park, Waynesboro—5.6 miles
A great place to get the “wigglies” out, Ridgeview Park offers an elaborate play structure, a shallow river for wading, an old iron foot bridge, tennis and basketball courts,
walking trails, and an outdoor pool.

Go-karts, putt-putt, arcade games, and a batting cage—every child’s dream. Hours

Kids will love the sandy beach and roped swimming area, and adults will enjoy lounging
in the sun or swimming to the island in the middle of the lake. A perimeter trail makes
a great family hike. Grills and picnic tables also available.
Woodrow Wilson Museum, Staunton—16.3 miles
Staunton was the birthplace of our 28th President. The museum has done a superb job
catering to younger visitors, offering scavenger hunts, engaging exhibits, and even a
WWI trench to climb through.
Gypsy Hill Park, Staunton—17.8 miles
Staunton’s city-center park boasts 214 acres of recreational space. Kids will enjoy the
duck pond, play structures, walking loop, and Gypsy Express mini-train (operates MayOctober), which has been carrying little passengers for almost 60 years!
Grand Caverns, Grottoes—18.4 miles
Grand Caverns was discovered in 1804 by Bernard Weyer while trying to retrieve one
of his animal traps. It is the oldest continually operating show cave in the United
States. Today, tour guides personally lead visitors through the breathtaking caverns.
For children, the underground adventure is like a trip to wonderland! Wear a jacket, as
the temps are a cool 58 degrees year-round.
Massanutten Water Park, McGaheysville—33.4 miles
Tube slides, waterfalls, tipping water buckets, a lazy river—if it’s wet, Massanutten
Water Park is sure to have it. With indoor and outdoor features, the Park makes even
rainy days fun for the whole family!

plunges over rocks and forms fun swimming holes. Rock-hopping and sunbathing are
