FUN FACT Just off the coast of Costa Maya is the Great Mayan Reef, an incredible ecosystem that is the second-largest barrier reef in the world.
Never-ending Adventure
WHITE-SAND BEACHES, turquoise
waters, and swaying palm trees shape the
backdrop for Costa Maya, the Mexican
port of call designed exclusively for cruise
guests. The remodeled cruise facility is an
all-encompassing entertainment complex
that features a 70,000-square foot
shopping center, a local artisan market, a
private beach club, several restaurants, 2
saltwater pools, a 650-seat amphitheater,
and all the resources needed to explore
the area’s natural surroundings.
IT’S CALLED THE MAYAN COAST for a
reason: the area surrounding the cruise
port is home to one of Mexico’s largest
population of Mayan descendants and
the highest concentration of ancient
Mayan archaeological sites. The village
of Mahahual is just a 5-minute ride from
the pier. In 2007, this quiet fishing town
underwent a massive rebuilding project.
The renovations included the addition
of a promenade along the beach, which
now features a range of shops, bars,
and restaurants that serve some of the
freshest ceviche in the Caribbean. Guests
can visit a Mayan home to taste authentic
dishes such as buried-earth-cooked
chicken, handmade tortillas, and exotic
local produce.
