Plastics expertise applied: MuCell∏. Progress for your success
Plastics expertise applied: MuCell∏. Progress
for your success– Pöppelmann K-TECHΠ.
Technical and economic objectives
in focus – plastics technology without
compromise.
To enhance innovative output,
conventionally manufactured plastic
components have to compete
again and again. The customer’s
demands are clearly defined: More
functionality with reduced weight,
and cost control at the same time.
The only way to correctly interpret
these market demands and offer
solutions that are economical in
the long run is to embrace new
technologies in a responsible and
efficient manner.

to physically foam thermoplastics. By
injecting the foaming agent directly into
the plastic melt, microcellular structures
are formed within the component.
One of the strongest arguments in favour
of MuCell∏ is that it meets technical
as well as economical objectives. The
weight reduction is only one important
advantage. The functional benefits, such
as the improved dimensional stability of
the mouldings, outweigh by far any other
advantage. This also allows sink marks
to be reduced.
MuCell∏ process/
thermoplastic foaming
Physical method for foaming thermoplastics.
Injection of (nitrogen or carbon dioxide) gas directly
into the plastic melt.
Production of mouldings with low distortion and high
rigidity.
Formation of microcellular structures -> cell size
between 10–1000 µm, depending on material and
degree of foam.
Formation of uniform cell sizes with uniform
distribution of the cells.
Weight can be reduced by approx. 10 % (depending on
the material).
The CBC holder with PIN expander as well as the battery box
are two successful examples where MuCell is used. Compared
to conventional injection moulding, it was possible to reduce the
component weight by approx. 10 %. In addition, the components’
dimensional stability was significantly enhanced.

The advantages of the MuCell∏ process at a
glance:
Significantly reduced design times: One-stop
component design and series production.
Success in series: Pöppelmann K-TECH∏ has
extensive experience in handling a variety of materials
and tool requirements.
Fully furnished plant: Due to the existing series
applications, the required periphery is already in
place.
Process reliability: Pöppelmann K-TECH∏ is in
control of the steps required across all project stages
– from design to production.
