Please review our new catalog carefully so that you can best benefit from everything Intergroom has to offer! For starters, our three day convention, trade show and grooming competitions are held on SATURDAY, SUNDAY and MONDAY, just like the shows in the human beauty industry! Check the catalog carefully for trade show hours, times of educational classes and grooming competitions as well. Our Rising Star and International Groomer of the Year competitions begin on Saturday morning, continue on through Sunday and finish right before Best in Show, which will be presented on the trade show floor on Sunday evening, starting at 5:30PM. Monday morning brings the incredible “Extreme Makeover Competition” featuring dogs with a minimum of four months of hair growth. The unique “Feline Fantasy Competition” will be held in the adjacent ring area and, in the afternoon, the ever popular “Creative Challenge Competition” will take place. So, set aside time to enjoy these elaborate pet styling fabrications with color and sculpture limited only by the amazing imaginations of the individual stylists. Competitors: Please check the rules carefully as quite a few changes have been made this year in competition times and eligibility. Once again, we are featuring some of the country’s top professionals presenting seminars throughout the show hours. Classroom seminars and demonstrations will fill the weekend with quality education. Class choices are clearly noted and clarified in the catalog so, please, make your selections carefully before registering. You may register on-line, at the Intergroom website (www.intergroom.com) for educational classes and competitions as well as our Free Trade Show registration. Come, see and “feel” the excitement of INTERGROOM, 2013. Find yourself in the company of top pet stylists, hundreds of products and industry leaders from around the globe all sharing their knowledge, technique and information to enhance your professional career and your Intergroom experience. We’ll see you there. Christine DeFilippo Show Promoter 3 NOTICE TO INTERGROOM 2013 ATTENDEES & COMPETITORS Please read these rules carefully The dogs entered in our competitions and involved in the programs are essential to the success of our show. Since special arrangements have been made with the Holiday Inn to accommodate these dogs, we ask dog owners and handlers to observe the following rules: 1. Only dogs and cats entered in the various competitions or scheduled for demonstrations or seminars will be permitted at the hotel. No pets should accompany other attendees. 2. The hotel will permit only one dog per room - with a non-refundable security deposit of $100. You may, however, bring additional dogs for the competitions. We will house them in a special supervised holding area at no additional cost to you. These dogs will not be left unattended; there will be security staff on duty at all times. This area will be available from 12:00 pm on Friday, April 19th, until 5:00 pm on Monday, April 22nd. Please check in at the Expo Center. 3. Advance reservations are required noting that dogs will need to be accommodated. When you complete the room reservation form enclosed in this catalog, be sure to indicate that you will be bringing dogs. To minimize complaints about barking, the hotel plans to house all guests with dogs on the same floors if possible. Dogs not properly acknowledged upon check-in will receive a harsh penalty from the Hotel. 4. Your dog must be kenneled at all times when alone in sleeping rooms. Please bring sufficient crates to house your dogs. 5. Dogs must be leashed or kenneled when they are not being groomed in the contest ring or in the seminars. They also must be leashed and well supervised at all times when in public areas of the hotel. 6. The special "walking" and lavatory area for all dogs is located at the Holiday Inn (across the street from the Exposition Center) and at the Exposition Center. The areas will be clearly marked and no other area should be used for this purpose. Come prepared to pick-up after your dog(s). 7. Absolutely NO bathing, blow-drying or pre-grooming of dogs is allowed in any of the sleeping rooms. Penalties will be severe. We have made special arrangements with BEST IN SHOW for the use of their specially-designed grooming facility. This has proved far superior to any other accommodations we have tried before. Again this year, we will have a SIGN-UP SHEET for you to schedule your bathing appointment time. Please register on arrival to ensure a timely spot for preparation. Contestants who sign an entry form to any of the competitions scheduled at INTERGROOM 2013 agree to abide by the rules of good conduct that govern grooming contests and purebred dog shows. You have also agreed to "hold harmless" the owner or lessor of the premises and you assume all the responsibility of any acts of your dog(s). The Holiday Inn has put the following rules into effect to minimize future problems: If you or your dog damage, destroy or steal hotel property, you are responsible to make restitution to the satisfaction of the hotel. Behavior which could result in such action may be, but not limited to: stealing or damaging towels or linens; improper clean-up after the dog; actual blow drying, clipping or scissoring in the sleeping room (which is not allowed and subject to charges); causing destruction to room furniture (beds, dressers, drapes, etc.); and/or failure to pay room charges. These are serious problems. Violations will be dealt with firmly. 4 TABLE OF CONTENTS PAGE 53 54 7 32 36-39 27 2013 ALPHABETICAL LISTING CONVENTION REGISTRATION FORMS CONVENTION REGISTRATION EDUCATIONAL CLASSES DIRECTIONS TO THE MEADOWLANDS EXPOSITION CENTER EDUCATIONAL CLASS DESCRIPTIONS JUDGES AND SPEAKERS *Pet Tech First Aid & Care for your pets *Reiki Attunement Level I & II Course presented by Beth Christiano & Mary Oquendo 25 presented by Pam Pollard & Mary Oquendo 49 47 51 45 43 6 48 46 50 44 42 28-31 16,17 3 CONTEST ENTRY FORMS CREATIVE CHALLENGE EXTREME MAKEOVER FELINE FANTASY (Cat) INTERNATIONAL GROOMER OF THE YEAR RISING STAR OF THE YEAR HOTEL RESERVATION INFORMATION 2012 Winners’ Photographs CREATIVE CHALLENGE EXTREME MAKEOVER FELINE FANTASY INTERNATIONAL GROOMER OF THE YEAR RISING STAR OF THE YEAR SCHEDULE OF EVENTS TRADE SHOW INFORMATION WELCOME LETTER from the Show’s Producer * indicates a Certificate Course 5 INTERGROOM 2013 MEADOWLANDS EXPOSITION CENTER SECAUCUS, NEW JERSEY 07094 This year hotel reservations can be made online or by calling your hotel of choice in order to receive the discounted Intergroom rate. First Aid ~ PetTech® ~ see full information on page 27 GroomFusion ~ see full information on page 40 Sponsored by Chris Christensen Importance of Good Web Design Chris Ferrari - *Sponsored by 1-800-Groomer* The initial seminar will focus on the importance of good design in relation to current SEO and marketing strategies for highest conversion rates. Mainstreethost understands how to effectively design a website based on metrics gathered through numerous redesign/development projects over the last several years. Our intent is to inform the audience that marketing alone will not suffice in the current internet climate. Design, Online Marketing, and Social Networking should run in tandem for optimal results. We will inform our audience on the topics listed below. • Immediately establish credibility with your visitors • Create brand identity that your clients associate with trust • The visual impact of your site leaves a lasting impression • Encourage people to return to your website • Services and contact information are easily found • Website is easy to navigate • Current design and development trends keep your site a cut above the rest • Higher conversion rates and lower bounce rates Building A Business And Making A Good Living As A Dog Groomer Presented by Daniel Guttman, MBA Anybody who tells you that making a living as a dog groomer is easy is, if you’ll pardon the expression, shaving the truth. No business is easy. But, as the saying goes, if you love what you do, you’ll never work another day in your life. I would therefore hope, that as a dog groomer you love the canine world and everything that goes with it. But loving dogs and having great grooming skills, while necessary, is not sufficient for a successful business. Good business skills and training will shift the odds considerably in your favor. Ask any dog groomer if they wished they had a business plan prior to starting their practice and if they are honest, they will get on their haunches and bark a resounding YES, YES, YES. We will discuss what it takes to put a top-notch business plan together, how it can be less daunting than at first glance, and even, dare I say it, fun. Since this is the last presentation at Intergroom we will endeavor to give you plenty of reasons to stay awake and stick around. The Kerry Blue Terrier with Tammy Siert - Sponsored by Espree Products Tammy Siert recently retired from competitive grooming and is also an Espree Animal Products grooming consultant. In this useful seminar Tammy will discuss structure, proper coat preparation, time saving tips using clipper and scissoring techniques, and finally how to create the “marcel coat”. Whether you’re just looking for some time saving tips or wanting to start competing with a Kerry Blue this seminar will help you achieve both. 33 Making the Pet Connection Rev. Sonny D The tools I’ll share with the participants of this seminar are very basic beginning techniques that can be applied immediately at any salon to create a less stressful environment for the grooming staff and the pets who visit for their “day at the spa“. Participants can expect to learn how to clear their mind, learn Quantum breath exercise, and realize how to “listen” with the heart. Introductory information of sending and receiving empathic information will be included. Participate in a series of exercises to improve empathic and intuitive skills with a series of pets. This is followed by a short Q & A session. Making Masterpieces out of Nightmares in Record Time! Dave Campanella - Best Shot Pet Products Let’s take a closer look at Dematting, Detangling, Deshedding. It’s no surprise the most strenuous and time-consuming physical activities groomers struggle with on a daily basis are de-shedding, de-matting and detangling. Many opinions, techniques, tools and formulas attempt to help tackle these tough challenges, but do you really understand what’s going on from the hairs perspective to select the most effective approach. Dave will review demo video and images viewed with an electron microscope of hair samples he has taken of mats, tangles and undercoat from several common coat types. The data presented provides keen insights guiding you to a more effective approach towards combating these daunting tasks effectively. You will learn how to safely release more shedding and undercoat with little to no pre-brushing; minimize your effort; reduce stress; avoid muscle strain and even injury to you and your client dogs. Post Pets have become members of our families and we want to insure that they live the longest and best lives they possibly can. As we have taken better care of our dogs and cats they are indeed living longer; yet despite this, or perhaps because of this, cancer is one of the leading causes of death in pet dogs and cats. Some estimates suggest that greater than 50% of dogs over 10 years old will die of cancer. As a veterinary oncologist, Dr Post would like to give groomers some advice on what things to look for in order to detect cancer in their client’s pets. The earlier you detect cancer the better your chance of effective treatment. The 10 warning signs of cancer in both dogs and cats will be discussed in full. Please understand that these are just potential warning signs and should not panic you, but prompt a suggestion to the client to see a veterinarian. This important presentation gives us new perspective and is offered twice on Sunday for your benefit. It is a “must see” program. 35 Thinning Shear Magic (Tricks of the Trade) by Pam Lauritzen & Vero DaSylva - Sponsored by 44/20 Shears and International Society of Canine Cosmetologists Confused or don’t know how to get the best use out of your thinning shears?
