The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) in Green Bank, West Virginia is a national facility devoted to radio astronomy, and home to the world’s largest fully steerable radio telescope - the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope. Nestled in the West Virginia mountains, this technological marvel rises from the valley floor to a height of 485 feet, weighs 17 million pounds and sports a reflector 2.3 acres in area. Astronomers from around the world use the Green Bank Telescope (GBT) to investigate the cosmos.
