Jane teaches classical guitar
performance and chamber music at
the New Zealand School of Music.
She is committed to providing high
level guitar education in New
Zealand, and draws heavily on her
work with guitar luminaries Scott
Tennant, William Kanengiser, Prof. Tom Patterson, David
Russell and Sergio Assad.
Course Tutors continued:
Nick Price is currently pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma
in classical guitar performance at the
NZSM. After picking up the guitar at age
14, he studied under Ross Townsend in
New Plymouth before studying with
Matthew Marshall in 2009-10 at the
NZSM. He has played in masterclasses for
many acclaimed artists such as Maria Isabel Siewers,
Miguel Trapaga and Alexsandr Tsiboulski. Nick is a
recipient of the Dame Malvina Major Elite Tertiary
scholarships and the 2009 winner of the Muriel May
Memorial Scholarship.

Course Tutors:
Jamie Garrick is completing a Masters at the NZSM. He
has performed throughout New Zealand
and in master classes for international
artists such as Ricardo Gallen, Xuefei Yang
and Aleksandr Tsiboulski.
Performance highlights include concerts
with Matthew Marshall and the Tudor
Consort and with the NZSM Guitar Quartet in the Michael
Fowler Centre.
Cristián Huenuqueo completed an Honours degree in
classical guitar in Chile before travelling to New Zealand to
complete a Postgraduate Diploma in guitar performance at
the NZSM. His teaching experience covers both
individual lessons and orchestra coaching. From 2011 until
mid 2012 he taught classical guitar and music theory for
Manawatu Musician Makers. He has participated in
concerts and competitions in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay,
Chile, Thailand and New Zealand.
Cameron Sloan is now studying towards BMus with
Honours at the NZSM. Also a member of
the NZSM guitar quartet, he has played in
master classes with a number of fine
guitarists including Ricardo Gallen, John
Griffiths, Giulherme Vincens, Xuefei Yang,
Miguel Trapaga and Owen Moriarty.

Guitar at the YMP
Saturday’s time will be divided up to cover
a range of guitar playing skills such as
technique, guitar ensemble playing, guitar
specific theory (note reading/harmony/
rhythm) and including small group tutoring
sessions by graduates from the New
Zealand School of Music.

Welcome to the YMP guitar ensemble
programme at the New Zealand School
of Music.
This course consists of eight weekly
sessions of music making, held every
Saturday afternoon 1—3pm starting 11
May. These sessions cover how to
develop good guitar playing technique,
music
performance
and
group
musicianship skills. The course will finish
with a dinner and concert by the students
for friends and family in the wonderful
Massey University Theatrette, Old
Museum Building on 10 July (after the last
Saturday of the course).
This programme gives students valuable
experience in the art of preparing a
programme to concert level for the
performance at the end of course, plus
additional performance opportunities for
selected students who are seeking
performance experience.

(no YMP Queen’s Birthday weekend)

Course cost: $120 per student incl. GST
(this covers 16 hours of tuition at less than
10 per hour!)
