that lived on Romanian territory since ancient times, monuments and lay or religious art objects, museums and

They constitute very attractive elements of Romanian tourism offer, presenting a wide variety of tourism types: stay

to its geographical position and to the three natural elements defining its landscape structure and territory: the
Carpathians, the Danube and the Black Sea, Romania has
the status of a Pontian-Danubian- Carpathian country.
Each natural element, by its specific, has a certain capacity
of tourism potential, pursued on major steps of relief,
increasing from the plain to the hills and plateaus up to the
mountains, excepting Romanian seaside of the Black Sea
and the Danube Delta, which present physical and
geographical original aspects .Romania holds a huge
treasury of archaeological traces, historical, architecture
and art monuments, as well as a valuable patrimony
certifying continuous labor and life evolution on these
lands, Romanian
culture and art development. The main cultural and
historical tourism resources are the following:
- archaeological artifacts;
- historical, architecture and art monuments of
unique value;
- museums and memorial houses;
- folklore and traditions;
- tourist villages.

The establishments number of tourists reception with functions of tourists accommodation includes establishments
of tourists reception existing on July 31 of respective year, excluding those whose activity was interrupted for a longer
period of time, in order to carry out capital repairs or for important changes of their accommodation capacity or/and
category.
Statistical surveys comprise establishments of tourist’s reception with tourist’s accommodation functions having at
least 5 bed places as capacity of tourist’s accommodation.
Tourist’s accommodation capacity in function (expressed in places-days) represents the number of accommodation
bed places put at the disposal of tourists by establishments of tourists reception, taking into account the number of
days as long as they are opened in the respective period. The bed places from the rooms or establishments temporarily
closed, due to the lack of tourists, for capital repairs or for other reasons are excluded.

middle and upper class capacity tends to miss.
3. THE TOURISTIC ACCOMMODATION ACTIVITY

accommodation includes all persons (Romanians and foreigners) who travel outside the localities where their stable
domicile is situated, for less than 12 months and who stay at least one night into an establishment of tourists reception
in the visited areas of that country; the main reason of the trip is different from carrying out a paid activity in the
visited places.
Page 8

International visitor is, from statistical viewpoint, any person who travels to one country, other than his residence
country, for a period no longer than 12 months, the main purpose of his visit being another one than carrying out a
paid activity in the visited country.
Arrivals include the number of foreign visitors registered when entering the country.
Departures include the number of Romanian visitors who travel abroad and are registered when leaving the country.
The same person from abroad can perform in the respective period several trips inside the country, being registered as
a new arrival each time. Departures of Romanian visitors abroad are treated in the same way.
The following categories of travelers are excluded from arrivals and departures of international visitors: persons
entering or leaving the country as migrants; diplomats, consular representatives and members of armed forces when
going to/coming from the place where their mission should be carried out, into another country; refugees or nomads.
Page 15
“Market Analysis Over the Romanian Touristic Market “
It can be easily noticed that the taste of the Romanian for traveling grew from 8905764 in 2006 up to 13072181 in 2008,
so the number of the Romanian Travelers exceeds the number of foreign visitors to Romania. And their main
preference in means of transportation it is being represented by their own car, not because it might be cheaper but
because they visit the near by countries and in this way their mobility and freedom to visit grows.

5. FUTURE DEVELOPMENT AND INVESTMENTS
The tourism sector constitutes one of the
most important sources of wealth of nations
regardless of their level of development. The
negative impact of tourism, including its growing
threat to the aims and practice of many
conservations bodies was becoming better and
more widely understood, in developed and
developing countries alike. Mass tourism can
destroy the environment, the economy, the host
country and its people, even the tourists
themselves.
Sustainable
development
is
the
development that meets the needs of the present
without compromising the ability of future
generations to meet their own needs. The effect
of our continuing misuse of the earth’ resources, the part played by tourism in this process, the links between
development and tourism are very important issues to be solved. The economic, social and political context of the
period after 1990 has not been one that contributed to the Romanian tourism development. Today, the Romanian
hospitality industry confronts itself with problems such as: the decline of the internal and external tourist demand, an
old tourist product, the low standard in the services which do not satisfy the tourists` expectations, the payment and
too high prices compared to the quality of the services, an insufficient promotion.
Page 23

6. Travel Agencies Activity
Tourism action represents the specific way to carry out the trip of the tourist and the conditions provided by the
organizer economic unit during this period.
Tourists participating in a tourism action are persons who benefit by the services rendered and sold by the economic
unit, organizer of the respective tourism activity.
Tourists-days for a tourism action are determined by multiplying the number of tourists participating in tourism actions,
with the actual duration in days of the respective tourism action.
