Page 3 “Market Analysis Over the Romanian Touristic Market “ The establishments number of tourists reception with functions of tourists accommodation includes establishments of tourists reception existing on July 31 of respective year, excluding those whose activity was interrupted for a longer period of time, in order to carry out capital repairs or for important changes of their accommodation capacity or/and category. Statistical surveys comprise establishments of tourist’s reception with tourist’s accommodation functions having at least 5 bed places as capacity of tourist’s accommodation. Tourist’s accommodation capacity in function (expressed in places-days) represents the number of accommodation bed places put at the disposal of tourists by establishments of tourists reception, taking into account the number of days as long as they are opened in the respective period. The bed places from the rooms or establishments temporarily closed, due to the lack of tourists, for capital repairs or for other reasons are excluded. Page 4 “Market Analysis Over the Romanian Touristic Market “ Page 5 “Market Analysis Over the Romanian Touristic Market “ The indicators were grouped according to the ownership type of the unit’s, social capital as follows: State majority ownership, comprising state integral capital, public of national and local interest, mixed (over 50% state social capital); Private majority ownership, comprising private integral capital, mixed (over 50% private social capital), foreign integral capital, co-operative and community capital. Page 6 “Market Analysis Over the Romanian Touristic Market “ Page 7 “Market Analysis Over the Romanian Touristic Market “ With the upper table we followed to show almost all the touristic accomodation, from 5 stars hotels to rural tourist boarding houses and ship accomodation spaces; what is interesting is the fact that at some sort of accomodation the middle and upper class capacity tends to miss. 3. THE TOURISTIC ACCOMMODATION ACTIVITY Number of tourists accommodated in the establishments of tourists reception with function of tourists accommodation includes all persons (Romanians and foreigners) who travel outside the localities where their stable domicile is situated, for less than 12 months and who stay at least one night into an establishment of tourists reception in the visited areas of that country; the main reason of the trip is different from carrying out a paid activity in the visited places. Page 8 “Market Analysis Over the Romanian Touristic Market “ Overnight stay represents each night for which one person is registered into an establishment of tourist’s reception with functions of tourist’s accommodation, no matter if this person is present or absent from the room. Foreign tourist, who is accommodated in an establishment of tourist’s reception with functions of tourist’s accommodation, is registered by his residence country or geographical residence area. ROMANIA’S TOURISM, BY REGION OF DEVELOPMENT Number of Romanian residents who have made touristic trips in the country and abroad has increased in first quarter of 2009 with 15.4% from first quarter of 2008. During the same period, the number of trips made by residents increased by 15.2% over first quarter of 2008. Travel for vacations has been the maximum in January, internal and also external destinations. As in previous years, Romanian tourists prefer to travel short, less than 4 days. Page 12 “Market Analysis Over the Romanian Touristic Market “ The number of Romanian residents who travel for tourism purpose has increased in the first quarter of 2009 with over 15% to the same period of previous year. The number of Romanians residents who have made touristic trips in the first quarter of 2009 was 2.3994 million, increase with 15.4% compared with the first quarter 2008. From these people, the ones with ages from 25 to 44 years represented the largest share in the total number of tourists meaning 47%, followed by groups of 45-64 years (25.5%) ,15-24 years (20.5%) and 65 and over (7.%). The number of touristic trips Page 13 “Market Analysis Over the Romanian Touristic Market “ made by residents in the first quarter of 2009 was 2830.6 thousand, increased with 15.2% compared with the first quarter of 2008. In the period under review the share of holiday trips was 92.8%, being approximately equal to that of the corresponding period of 2008, while traveling for business and professional reasons were 3.8%. The most traveling trip in the holiday quarter in 2009 were spent between 1-3 nights, we could notice a slight tendency to increase from the corresponding period of previous year. Page 14 “Market Analysis Over the Romanian Touristic Market “ International visitor is, from statistical viewpoint, any person who travels to one country, other than his residence country, for a period no longer than 12 months, the main purpose of his visit being another one than carrying out a paid activity in the visited country. Arrivals include the number of foreign visitors registered when entering the country. Departures include the number of Romanian visitors who travel abroad and are registered when leaving the country. The same person from abroad can perform in the respective period several trips inside the country, being registered as a new arrival each time. Departures of Romanian visitors abroad are treated in the same way. The following categories of travelers are excluded from arrivals and departures of international visitors: persons entering or leaving the country as migrants; diplomats, consular representatives and members of armed forces when going to/coming from the place where their mission should be carried out, into another country; refugees or nomads. Page 15 “Market Analysis Over the Romanian Touristic Market “ It can be easily noticed that the taste of the Romanian for traveling grew from 8905764 in 2006 up to 13072181 in 2008, so the number of the Romanian Travelers exceeds the number of foreign visitors to Romania. And their main preference in means of transportation it is being represented by their own car, not because it might be cheaper but because they visit the near by countries and in this way their mobility and freedom to visit grows. Page 16 “Market Analysis Over the Romanian Touristic Market “ The structure of trips according to the duration Over 29 nights 15- 28 nights 8-14 nights 4-7 nights 1-3 nights Most trips for vacations were destination countries from Europe About 98.8% of holidays trips abroad were completed in first quarter of 2009 and were intended for European countries, most of which in EU countries meaning 85.2%. The main countries in which Romanian residents have traveled in the holiday quarter in 2009 were Hungary, Italy, Austria, Spain, and Turkey. Total number of nights spent for traveling completed in first quarter 2009 meant around 10.3936 million, dropping 4.4% over first quarter of 2008. Most nights were spent for vacations, and 87.9% in first quarter 2009. From the total of 9131.0 thousand nights registered for holidays, 84.9% were achieved in Romania and 15.1% abroad, while maintaining the same trend as in the first quarter of 2008. Over two thirds of money spending for resident’s holidays and businesses has been made in Romania. In the first quarter of 2009, Romanian residents spent approximately 855.0 million lei for holiday travel and business, of which 71.9% for those that have targeted internal destinations. Of the total tourist spending for holiday travelers in the first quarter of 2009, 77.4% were for travel expenses in the country, and 22.6% for travel abroad. FUTURE DEVELOPMENT AND INVESTMENTS The tourism sector constitutes one of the most important sources of wealth of nations regardless of their level of development. The negative impact of tourism, including its growing threat to the aims and practice of many conservations bodies was becoming better and more widely understood, in developed and developing countries alike. Mass tourism can destroy the environment, the economy, the host country and its people, even the tourists themselves. Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The effect of our continuing misuse of the earth’ resources, the part played by tourism in this process, the links between development and tourism are very important issues to be solved. The economic, social and political context of the period after 1990 has not been one that contributed to the Romanian tourism development. Today, the Romanian hospitality industry confronts itself with problems such as: the decline of the internal and external tourist demand, an old tourist product, the low standard in the services which do not satisfy the tourists` expectations, the payment and too high prices compared to the quality of the services, an insufficient promotion. Page 23 “Market Analysis Over the Romanian Touristic Market “ 6. Travel Agencies Activity Tourism action represents the specific way to carry out the trip of the tourist and the conditions provided by the organizer economic unit during this period. Tourists participating in a tourism action are persons who benefit by the services rendered and sold by the economic unit, organizer of the respective tourism activity.
