Miró Quartet - Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival
Marya Martin, Artistic Director 3 Saturdays at 6pm February 27 | April 9 | spring 16 Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival May 14 Dear Friends, We’re back! Our dream of bringing a spring series to life came true last season, and it was so successful that we’ve decided to add a third concert this season. All will take place Saturday evenings at 6pm, sprinkled from late February through mid-May. And the artists – I’m thrilled to have many festival favorites returning to perform, including violinist Ani Kavafian, who has been with us since the very beginning 33 years ago, as well as cellists Peter Wiley and Ed Arron, both of whom have been delighting BCMF artists for many years. More recent festival artists, such as violinists Bella Hristova and Tien-Hsin Cindy Wu, and the wonderful harpsichordist Kenneth Weiss, will be back with us again, too. I’m also particularly looking forward to introducing BCMF audiences to the superb young Finnish pianist Juho Pohjonen. Finally, some of you may remember the Miró Quartet’s first appearance with us last spring. Well, they were so much fun that we couldn’t resist asking them back, and what a program they are offering – two of Beethoven’s greatest string quartets alongside Argentinian composer Alberto Ginastera’s folk-influenced String Quartet No. 1. While we’re on music, the other two programs are equally exciting. In February, we’ll recreate the sound world that Johann Sebastian Bach would have known during his life, and in May, we’ll trace the development of “classical” music through works by Haydn, Mozart, and Schubert. We hope you’ll join us for all three concerts. If you do, you can take advantage of our first-ever subscription savings – see inside for details. Can’t wait to see you in the audience! Join us as we explore his world, from building on Corelli’s groundbreaking trio sonatas, to his friendly rivalry with Telemann (who was considered by his contemporaries to be the best musician of his day), to the legacy Bach left through his talented sons. Combined, the program paints a fascinating musical portrait not to be missed. This year, they perform a blockbuster program featuring Ginastera’s lively and brightly energetic 1st string quartet, and two of Beethoven’s iconic quartets – the tautly wound “Serioso” and the thrilling and expansive C major “Razumovsky” quartet, whose final movement is one of Beethoven’s most exciting and beloved. Beethoven String Quartet in F minor, Op. 95, “Serioso” Ginastera String Quartet No. 1, Op. 20 Beethoven String Quartet in C major, Op. 59, No. 3, “Razumovsky” Miró String Quartet Daniel Ching, violin William Fedkenheuer, violin John Largess, viola Joshua Gindele, cello Haydn/Mozart/ Schubert Saturday, May 14, 6:00 pm Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church Our final spring series program provides a perfect snapshot of the development of “classical” music. Haydn’s early, cheery, London trio sets a standard for the period. Mozart’s C major trio, with its crystalline beauty and elegant lines, perhaps best exemplifies the classical period, while Schubert’s E-flat major trio pushes towards romanticism with his grand, flowing melodies, and haunting and ultimately triumphant climax.
