FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Mark’s Update
The surgery went well on Monday and Mark
was up on crutches yesterday. He sounds in
very good spirits and I am sure he will be
doing everything he can to be back at school
as soon as possible!
Japanese Stars
Congratulations to Ruby Stringer, Mae Bell,
Rhys Licheni, Lucia Styles and Riley Wastell
who competed in the Geelong Japanese
Speech contest on the weekend. They
delivered their speeches with confidence
and represented our school with pride.
Thank you so much to Rochelle Mackenzie
for all her hard work in coaching the
students.

Mrs Hankin and the Senior Unit staff for
preparing the teams.
Parent Opinion Survey
This week we will be sending out our annual
DET Parent Opinion Surveys. This survey
gives us data to provide a picture of the
parent perceptions in our school community.
53 families were randomly selected to
complete the survey. If your family is part of
the sample group, please return your
questionnaire in the reply paid envelope by
Friday the 31st of July. Please be assured that
the information you provide is confidential.
Response data will be supplied to the school in
aggregate form. We really do value your
participation and feedback.
The survey
provides us with valuable data that enables
our school to better understand how the
parent community feels about our school, and
helps guide school improvement efforts. Your
ongoing support of this initiative is greatly
appreciated.
Colds and Viruses
Along with the change in weather, this time of
year can bring colds and viruses.
We
encourage parents to assist us in developing
basic hygiene strategies for our students, such
as: covering your mouth when you cough,
using tissues, and washing your hands, in an
effort to lessen the likelihood of colds being
shared around. Although we do advocate high
-level attendance for our students, we realise
that illnesses happen and sick children need to
be resting at home. If your child is unwell
please notify the office either by a phone call
or tiqbiz.

See who this week’s guest on
the Blog is…
What do you think?
We are looking for interested parents to
attend a focus group as part of a review of our
reporting processes. We would value your
ideas and opinions regarding the effective
communication of your child’s progress
throughout the year. The session would last
no longer than an hour and would be held at
school on an evening to be decided over the
next few weeks. Please let the office know if
you are interested.

Sports tops
Dear Parents,
Can all parents please ensure that any
sport tops your child has borrowed
from school be returned to school as
We are missing quite a lot of sport tops
from the Senior Winter Sports day that
students participated in last term.
Please return tops in a plastic bag to
my office with your child's name on it
so I can tick their name off the list.
Regards,
Jessica Ralston

Ambulance Victoria recently visited Pleasant Street PS. Without exception, the staff were welcoming,
professional and supportive of our programs. The highlight of our visit has been the respect we were
extended by your students; their exemplary behavior; and their commitment to learning.
This was exemplified by the Prep students who were learning about the role of a paramedic, the importance of
knowing to call 000 in case of emergency as well as recognizing the difference between a small accident and a
big accident. They very much enjoyed meeting our mascot “Stretch”, listening to his story and watching his movie
“A Day in the Life of a Paramedic”.
The Grade 1 and 2 students were brilliant in role playing the actions they can take when getting help in a
serious medical emergency. These steps included to remember to stop, think and stay safe; shout and squeeze;
ask for help; call 000 and stay on the phone. The students also recognized the importance of knowing their
address and telephone number as well as recognizing the difference between a small accident and a big
accident. They also very much enjoyed meeting our mascot “Stretch”. Parents, why not ask your children how to
recognise if a person is unconscious and how to check if they are breathing by looking, listening and feeling. They
were definitely “Triple Zero Heroes”.
We encourage parents to discuss a medical emergency response plan for their individual family situation as well
as helping their children complete the 000 Emergency Card they were given.
A highlight for the students was the ambulance tour where students spent time in the back of the ambulance
and could experience the lights and sirens.
We also recommend the Emergency + Smartphone App. This App has been developed by Australia’s Triple Zero
Awareness Working Group and is for iOS and Android devices. The App is designed to display the GPS
coordinates of the phone's location that the caller can read out to the emergency operator. The app is free of
charge and available for download from iTunes and Google Play Stores.
http://www.triplezero.gov.au/Pages/EmergencySmartphoneApp.aspx
The students are a credit to their parents and the leaders and staff of the school. Thank you for allowing us to
visit and work with your students to build their capacity to respond to medical emergencies.
