ENCLOSED PASSENGER CARS







Essential for all commercial applications and
strongly recommended for private and club
use, enclosed passenger cars provide a far
greater level of passenger safety than
straddle cars and mean that there is no
footwear restriction on passengers.
As an added bonus, the large sides allow the
owner a wide range of decoration options to
customise their train and give it real
character.
Available as independent cars or as
articulated multi car sets.
Articulated sets require:
o an “A” type car at the front. This has
two bogies, a bar coupler at the
front and a ball coupling at the rear.
o A “B” type car at the rear. This has
just one bogie (at the rear) and
shares its weight onto the back of
the “A” car through a ball socket
coupling and tilt limit bars.
o Sets can be extended by adding intermediate “C” cars or by bar coupling to other
sets.
Electric train brakes are available as an option. Many clubs require train brakes for sets
longer than two cars.
Standard cars are approx. 2.5m long between coupler centres - approx. 2.2m seat length. A
five car set will fit (just) in one piece into a 40ft shipping container.
MTS “G” type bogies are standard.
Cars are supplied with frames in primer and with bare unpainted cladding to allow for decoration.
Decorated cost depends on design and prices are available on application.

Laser cut rail joiners are a great time saver and produce a better result than hand-made ones.
Sleepers can of course be cut and de-burred by file or grinder from 50x6 flat bar or other sleeper
material of your choice. From experience you’ll get pretty tired of that after a few hundred so we
also sell our 50x6 steel laser cut sleepers.

FAQs:
Q: What tools do I need to build steel track?
A: The usual range of hand tools, plus a welder (preferably a MIG) and if building under about 10m
radius, a bar rolling machine (hand operated is OK). Overall budget $2000 to $5000.
Q: Do I need a jig to build my track in?
A: Of course you can lay and weld track in situ and shape it to suit the landscape, but for flexibility jig
built modular track works best. Jigging Straight track is easy, curved track and points are more
complex. MTS makes track building jigs to order – POA.
Q: Can triple gauge track be made?
A: Yes. Prices on application. Points are tricky but by no means impossible.
