SunnyKids Annual Report 2015
ANNUAL REPORT 2015 MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD Chris Turner, CEO In 2015, SunnyKids provided more than 10,000 nights of accommodation to homeless families, provided a social and emotional safety net to thousands of students through our partner schools and directly supported over 100 other local at risk families. In 100% of these families, things improved measurably and more than 75% identified significant improvement or complete resolution. It is with a strong sense of organisational responsibility that we have embedded a clear strategic vision for the coming years. So, in being an example of the solutions that we want to deliver, we have focused on our own accountability and responsibility to our clients, to our community and to our stakeholders and supporters. This has included quarterly reviews against our strategic and operational plans and revised board induction processes to ensure that the SunnyKids organisation, its members and staff exceed sector expectations regarding good governance. Ultimately SunnyKids works with children, their families and communities to ensure vulnerable, neglected and abused children get the kind of lives they deserve. We all know that life can deliver the unexpected – regardless of circumstance or position – and that none of us know when we might need a helping hand. We are dedicated to being that helping hand to as many families as possible – even yours – if the need arises. COMPASSION “a force that compels one to act subsequent to deep seated feelings” “I left that first meeting with Chris Turner knowing that SunnyKids was an organisation that had the potential to make a huge impact in the lives of children on the Coast and I knew without a doubt I wanted to be involved. The growth of SunnyKids since that meeting has been incredible and I am grateful to be a part of it”. Amanda Gavin, Treasurer MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD “The developmental curve that SunnyKids has been on over the last year or so has been substantial, it is a much more sophisticated business than it was just two years ago, which will hold us in good stead moving forward. Congratulations to Chris and the team, thank you to board members, let’s keep challenging each other and keep the momentum going” Brett Mills, President SunnyKids model is driven by the belief that ‘it is not the child’s problem to fix, nor is it the families or the community’s problem singularly… It is the child’s; family and community’s problem together.’ Therefore, it requires a community solution in which all people take responsibility for their involvement. SunnyKids is dedicated to creating a culture and communities that provide access to targeted, strategically planned and coordinated support systems for child and adult victims. On average there are 2.1 siblings for each child that we support, therefore the number of kids that have been supported is over 300. There were a number of presenting issues in each of the key areas. SunnyKids provide varied and holistic support including: referrals for financial and emergency relief, counselling, parenting and mentoring courses, substance use, social and community housing assistance, medical and physical support, immigration and legal advice referrals, mental health, sexual assault and Kids programs.
