He is a 28# chihuahua, who needs to lose 10# before our veterinarian will release him for adoption. Right now he is available in our foster-to-adopt program for potential adopters who live in our area (near South Bend, IN). You would be able to foster him until he was released for adoption and then finalize his adoption. Beau is about 10 years old. Other than being overweight, Beau is a great dog. He gets along with other dogs and cats. We are not sure how he would do with small children. He is on a strict diet and exercise plan. We believe he is housebroken as well. Beau is neutered, up to date on his vaccines, microchipped heartworm tested and on prevention. His adoption fee is $100. You deserve a factual look at . . . Who Owns the “West Bank”? The ancient lands of Judea and Samaria, east of Jerusalem, have been part of the Jewish homeland for 3,000 years. Today Arabs demand all of it. Judea and Samaria, the land where Jewish ancestors Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rachel, David and Solomon created Biblical history, was renamed the “West Bank” during Jordan’s brief, illegal 19-year occupation. Today, some 380,000 Jews own land and live in the territory, yet their rights are denied by Palestinian Arabs. private land in the territory. Jews, however, are not granted What are the facts? Nonetheless, Jews with the right or power to resolve ownership of vast tracts own about 5% of all private land in Judea and Samaria. Israel offers land for peace. Israel has a clear, millenniaof the Middle East, allotted to the Jewish people the land west of the Jordan River, including Judea and Samaria. Not only do the Arabs reject any Jewish claims to land in which were also established by the Mandate for Palestine. Jordan illegally seized the “West Bank” and east Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, they have also insisted during peace negotiations that the territory be made judenrein—free of and expelled all Jews from these Biblical homelands. In fact, the territories of Judea and Samaria have never Jews. Worse, many Palestinian Arabs, such as the terror been part of any nation except the Jewish state. How will the dispute over Judea and Samaria be emerged in favor of independence. Indeed, it wasn’t until Israel reclaimed the land and Jews returned to their resolved? Over Israel’s 67 years, it has become a world-class ancestral home that claims of Jewish “occupation” were cultural, economic and military power. Its standard of living is among the highest in the Middle East. Clearly the raised. Today, most land in present-day Judea and Samaria is not Jewish state is here to stay. Yet despite its strength, Israel privately owned, but rather is unsurveyed—without proven has shown willingness to negotiate and exchange land for ownership. Israel claims about 30% of the public land in peace. Sadly, this willingness has not been matched by the territory. However, the Supreme Court of Israel has Palestinian leadership. Until such negotiations are ruled that unsurveyed land in Judea and Samaria can be consummated, the “West Bank” will remain in dispute—a acquired by Arabs who cultivate it consistently. Arabs, no-man’s land in which claims of ownership remain cloudy through deed and cultivation rights, own about 95% of and contested. While Israel has clear rights to ownership of Judea and Samaria—also known as the “West Bank”—it has taken a practical position, offering to trade those rights and that land for peace with its Arab neighbors. But other times he just makes the noises without producing anything. Should I be concerned? -- Karl in Des Moines, Iowa DEAR KARL: You can always contact your cat’s veterinarian if you’re unsure about a potential health issue. In this case, Bink may be simply dealing with hairballs or trying to cough one up. According to Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, it’s not unusual for a healthy cat to cough up a hairball every week or two. These vary in size but are rarely round because the esophagus compresses them somewhat as they are brought up. Hairballs are just that: a clump of indigestible hair, typically swallowed while a cat is grooming itself. Sometimes they’ll bring them up with a bit of undigested food as well, which is always a pleasure to clean up, right? If a cat has several episodes of retching without producing a hairball, or if it vomits or is lethargic, contact the vet. It could have another problem, either digestive or even respiratory, that only the vet can diagnose and treat. So, can you prevent hairballs in cats? No, NIFF-TONE DIST. INC. not really. Grooming is natural and healthy, and hairballs are a by-product of this. You might be able to reduce their size and frequency by feeding Bink a diet that keeps his coat healthy, with less shedding. Groom him often, even daily, to remove shed hairs. Should you give him a hairball remedy? Many vets recommend against it, as they do little to minimize hairballs.
