PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Spring is here and we hope that it will stay. This
winter was harsh and hard on our equipment, but we had
very little failure due to the fact that we performed preventive maintenance. However, it was very costly for
road salt and labor. Let’s look at the bright side, summer
will be here soon.
The gates are installed and we had to do a few
more adjustments than we expected. The vendors seem
to have no problem at all with the gates. All emergency
services have tested the gates, and if there were any
problems, we resolved the issues. From when we first
activated the gates until now, the gates are going down a
little faster. The purpose of this is to try to stop piggybacking. If you are a member and you piggyback, you
are doing it to get into your own property possibly faster.
For the non-members that are piggybacking, they are
doing so for different reasons. We would like to stop all
piggybacking. If you hit the gates and do damage without reporting it, you can be prosecuted as a hit-and-run.
Look in the newsletter and you will find the rules on Hitand-Run. At this time, our cost for a gate arm is
$350.00. If you do not report the damage, we have to
pay to research the cameras and that will cost us an additional $125.00. We have also put in two more cameras
to help with surveillance. The cameras did their job and
we obtained video when we had some damage to the
gates at the East entrance. The security cameras will
read piggybacking and if the gates are hit, we will be
able to know who did it.
I would like to thank the members that voted for
the road assessment. Without the money from this year’s
assessment, we would have had to put off reconstruction
of part of Lake Drive. We will be spending $150,000.00
on Lake Drive which includes this year’s assessment
money. The Club collects approximately $64,000.00
from just one assessment ($100.00 per lot).
The law suits are all settled but one. The one law
suit that is still ongoing is where Ms. Griffiths is suing
the club for her cost to install a pipe on Lake Hauto Club
property. We had a meeting with Ms. Griffiths, her attorney, our attorney and another two board members.
However, we could not come to a settlement at that
meeting. There was another proposed settlement from
her attorney, but we had to turn that down. This issue
could be going to court in September or October.

We are in the midst of settling with Greenwood
with regards to their egress and regress to get into their
property through our gates.
The club is going to clean out the stumps and trees
on two of our greenbelts that came down as a result of the
wind shear a few years ago. Our plan is to remove all the
tree stumps that can be and cut up all the trees to remove
them. At that time, if anyone needs firewood, it will be
available for the taking.
At Oakwood Beach we are going to change the
angle of the parking lot to stop the water from running
down and washing out the sand. Also, we are again going
to clean out by the curb and hopefully this will help stop
the water from washing out the beach. This work should
start approximately on April 15, 2014. We are also going
to distribute all new stone in the parking lot.
We are replacing a toddler swing at Oakwood
Beach and it will be installed by our maintenance people.
This will replace the swing that was hit by a car two years
ago. We cannot install the same swing because of safety
regulations about distance. This is the best swing that we
can install with the limitations.
We are attempting to purchase white sand for all
three beaches. We have some dead trees at Oakwood
Beach that will be taken down. We also will be cleaning
the Eastwood and Crescent tennis courts which, to my
knowledge, have never been cleaned before this. At Eastwood, we cut down five trees and trimmed the trees to prevent the leaves from falling on the tennis court. We would
like to paint a Shuffleboard court at Oakwood Beach. If
anyone knows where we can obtain the necessary decals,
please let me know.
We intend to do work at Eastwood Beach and it
will be done in two stages. Stage I will be before the season and Stage II after the season is over. However, we will
see how it progresses and if we complete Stage I and still
have enough time, we will attempt to complete Stage II
before the season begins. We may also do work required
in Stage II that will not interfere with the beaches during
the summer. Last year, we put a cement ramp down to the
water line. This year when we lower the lake (hoping to do
that in the fall), we will finish the boat ramp into the water.
Crescent and Eastwood will be getting stone added to what
is already there. It has been years since we have added
stone at the recreation areas.
We are getting new swim float/buoys to mark
off the swim areas and make it safer for swimming. The
float/buoys will be a new color. There will also be a few

new ski area buoys. We have completed our extension on the
dock at Eastwood. This again will make it safer for swimming. We also put an extension on the fishing dock at Crescent Beach. It will also make it safer for swimming taking
the docks out farther away from the swimming area at Eastwood and Crescent. The Crescent fishing dock will be extended out and to the left, which is a very nice configuration.
The placement of the boating buoys was approved by the
state, so please do not move their location. At Crescent
Beach, docks “B” and “C” are getting rebuilt with brand new
decks on both. Our intention is to install all docks starting
the last week of April. The fishing docks are in at this point.
PPL is relocating some power lines, so you will see
some action on Lake Drive where it meets Route 54. They
are going to relocate electricity. The surveying markers are
already there with red flags on them.
Security this year will be more present than last year.
We are hiring a new firm called Legion Security Systems.
They will be checking the beaches for members to have their
Recreation tags and checking boats for stickers. On the new
boat waiver that was instituted this winter, it gives us permission to check your boat if we feel it is not within regulations.
As you know, we had a vote to give the board a direction on what to do with a community center. The vote
came back guiding us not to invest in a community center at
“Zero” Beach. In the next few months, the board will be deciding on what to do with the present community center. Different Board members have ideas that will be discussed at
workshops, but we have to come to a united direction. When
the Board decides on the direction, we will inform the membership.
We are now preparing for the summer by installing
the docks, hooking up all water to open the bathrooms, and at
all the beaches we are spreading stone and sand and performing general clean up.
The office will be open seven days a week for the
convenience of our members. The schedule of hours open
will be determined by the seasons. Drop by the office and
say hello to our new employee, Debbie Hunter.
BOAT & RECREATIONAL VEHICLE
REGISTRATION
Only the names on the deed for the property can register
the equipment. A copy of the deed has to be in the office.
The equipment cannot be jointly owned with a nonmember. The member must be in good standing before
they can register any equipment. This recreational equipment includes equipment such as inboard and outboard
boats, Personal Water Crafts (wave runners), four wheelers, golf carts, ETC. The insurance and state registration
must be in the same name as the owner of the equipment.

Here are a few points that will help in using the
gates.
1. Exiting the Lake:
· Slow down till you hit sensor (about 10’ from
island) & gates open automatically.
· You do NOT have to show a pass to exit.
· Gates stay open for 15 sec. after a car starts
through.
· If you are in line to leave, you do not have to
wait for gates to go down.
· If there are 4 cars in line, the gates will remain
open for 15 sec. after the last car passes the
gate.
2. Entering the Lake at West (Main) gates:
· Passes: drive close to the black tower. Put pass
close enough (6” to 8” away) till you hear the
beep. Gates will open
· Gates stay open for 3 sec. Do not put your pass
back in your purse, etc., or gates will start going
down in 3 sec.
· Key fobs: Press 1 once you pass the new black
macadam (if there’s no car in front of you) &
gates will open.
· If you’re in line – as you get close to the island
and it’s your turn, make sure you point the key
fob at the black tower, not the gate.
3. Entering the Lake at Visitors’ gate (Main):
· The key fobs will not open the visitors’ gate
· Passes must be very close to the keypad to open
the gate.
· Code: the keypad is sensitive. Just lightly touch
each number until you hear the beep. After you
hit the # key, the gates will open.
· If you make a mistake (double hit a #, etc.), hit
the # key, wait 10 to 15 sec. and try again. All
600 codes have been tested.
4. Entering at East gates:
· All Passes, Codes, & Key Fobs can open entry gate.
· Follow same procedure as above.
· Exit gate is automatic & the same as above.
Damage to our Gates
According to the Vehicle Code of PA, there
is an obligation of a driver to report any
damage to our gates. If someone does not report damages to our gates, it is a summary offense and you can
be fined $300.00 plus the cost to repair the gates
(including labor costs). To report the damage you
may call the number at the gates 484-226-6950, call
the office 570-645-7100 and leave a message, mail
your information or drop it in the mail slot at the office, or report it to any board member.

BOAT STICKERS
All 2014 stickers MUST
be placed on both sides of the boat in full view
without having to move any personal equipment
(such as covers). Security will assume that the
boat does not have a sticker and the board will
possibly fine the member for not displaying the
sticker within full view.
LAKE HAUTO CLUB
This is a rough sketch of the lake indicating the direction in which
all motorized boats must travel. Motorized boats must travel in a
counter clockwise direction around the designated ski area. Water
skiing and tubing is only permitted in the center designated ski
area. Motorized boats not skiing are not permitted in the ski area
unless they are pulling a skier or someone in the tube. The “No
Wake” area means exactly that, your boat should be going slow
enough to not produce a wake. Following these boating rules will
only help to make our lake a safer place.

The security team that we have hired will be checking for the following:
Recreation tags need to be worn whenever members are using any Recreation Areas. There are many new members and this makes it easier on everyone to know that you are a member. No one is exempt from this rule no matter
how long you have lived here.
Boat Stickers need to be on both sides of the boat towards the rear of the boat. Security will be inspecting all boats.
Boats may not be launched without the stickers.
Recreational Vehicles must be registered with the club and the stickers must be visible. Drivers must possess a
valid drivers license.
Speed Limits will be checked periodically. The speed limit on Lake Drive is 25 miles per hour and on the side
streets, it is 15 miles per hour.

Open Letter to Lake Hauto Club members

The Lake Hauto Beautification Committee
Four short years ago, Cindy Cochran and Bill Schmidt,
both recent transplants to the lake, had a goal to start the
Lake Hauto Beautification Committee and create a new
improved look for our community. In those four years, the
LHBC volunteers, working with the ideas and under the
supervision and hard work of both Bill and Cindy, managed to :
Reconstruct the stone on the Route 54 entrance teepees
and Lake Drive Center Island as well as power
wash the teepees (through the generosity and work
of club members) and place a club property sign
on them, beautify both settings with annual and
perennial plantings.
Improve the “curb appeal” of the gate area and erect a
flag pole
Place directional signs for the beaches (through the
generosity of club members)
Beautify the three beaches through the placement of
planters, clocks, and American flags, the yearly
planting of flowers, the yearly replacement of decorative mulch, and weekly watering
Provide patio umbrellas for the many beach picnic tables
Hang awnings at the Eastwood pavilion
Share half the cost of the Community Center curb improvement landscaping with the club board
Provide seasonal decorations/plantings in the spirit of
the holiday
Organize the Antiques Road show, the Holiday Elf
Workshop, The Oldies Dance, the Chinese Auction Baskets, the Spring candy sale, June bake sale,
annual Calendar Sale, and the Christmas Wreath
Sale (many of these through the sponsorship and
donations of Lake Hauto club members).

This past year, the departure of Bill was sorely felt. Gone
were his daily duties for not only the club, but also the
beautification committee. Now, Cindy has left. Her innovative ideas, unbounded energy, and contagious enthusiasm will be sorely missed.
With Cindy's departure, we, the volunteers of the LHBC,
must reassess. We plan to take baby steps . The yearly
planting of common areas and beaches is being coordinated. The Annual Bake Sale has been scheduled for June
28th. Donations of time, support, ideas, and money have
always been our saving grace, so please keep them coming! We are currently contacting volunteers who had most
recently offered Cindy their help to attend a reorganizational meeting in early April.. If you would like to volunteer or have ideas, please send us your name and suggestions at lakehautobeautification@mail.com. You will be

eventually drain into the lake. Never dispose of unwanted household chemicals,
waste oil, fuels, lawn and yard debris, or any
hazardous material in a storm drain.
Rules for the Pavilions
1) Members are not permitted to reserve the pavilions at the
beaches. It is on a first come first served basis. You may
put tablecloths and names on tables at 7:00 a.m. You are
permitted 2 tables per member unless you have other
members attending then you may use their names also.
