Congratulations BKW’s Class of 2012 Xena Pulliam and Victoria Villeneuve named 2012 co-valedictorians As one of the two BKW Valedictorians this year, Xena Pulliam is a member of two high schools, BKW and Tech Valley High. In the fall she will be attending Hobart and William Smith. “I’m not really sure what I want to major in,” Pulliam said. She loves creative writing and wants to integrate that into her life in some way, whether it be through writing novels or working in advertising. “I’ve also learned to really like public speaking,” she continued. “Tech Valley uses project-based learning, so evValedictorian erything I did there was in teams and required speaking to groups.” Xena Pulliam At BKW, Pulliam has been a member of the JV and Varsity Basketball teams and of the National Honor Society. Her advice to the incoming Seniors: “Take advantage of every opportunity.” she said, “Also, try out different things to see what you really like.” BKW’s other Valedictorian, Victoria “Tori” Villeneuve is heading to Clarkson University where she’ll be studying biology. “Biology is very broad, so I want to narrow it down eventually. I’m not sure what I want to do for a career and am considering many things, including something in the medical field.” Villeneuve said, “Clarkson is a school very into engineering, so I may get involved in that.” While at BKW, Villeneuve has been involved in many of the art and sport programs. A saxophone player, she Valedictorian said “Music is a big thing” for her and Victoria “Tori” was involved in chorus and band. She Villeneuve played soccer, basketball, and ran track, saying that these were her best high school memories. Her advice to the incoming Seniors: “Senior year goes by really quickly. Enjoy your time, but make sure you get your business done. Don’t procrastinate.” Rachel Fuller named 2012 salutatorian Salutatorian Rachel Fuller BKW Salutatorian Rachel Fuller really loves chemistry. As well as it being her favorite class during her time at BKW, she will also declare it her major when she attends Binghamton University this fall. “My goal is to be a physician, maybe in pediatrics.” Fuller said, “I love working with kids.” While at BKW, she worked with kids quite often as a tutor through National Honor Society. She has also been a member of the Student Senate and Key Club, where volunteering was an integral part of her high school career. Students enrolled in the district’s pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs will be recognized as they move forward in their academic journey at BKW. At 9 a.m. Monday, June 18 in the elementary gym, pre-kindergarten students, complete with hats and tassells, will walk across the stage to recieve their “diplomas.” of the program and the students in it.” BKW kindergarten students wave goodbye to the 2011-12 school year in anticipation of summer and moving up to the first grade in the fall. “It’s a nice celebration.” Corey said. “We’re excited to be able to offer the pre-K program in the district. Students who complete it have proven to benefit from it both academically and socially. We’re quite proud Kindergartners will mark their transition to first grade in a similar moving up ceremony on Wednesday, June 20, at 9 a.m. in the elementary school gym. “The ceremony marks the first step in their career at BKW as they go on to face the new demands of first through twelfth grades,” Corey said. Students recognized for physical education leadership Six BKW students were recognized for their commitment to education and health during the 27th annual Sandra G. Morley Physical Education Student Leadership Awards at Hudson Valley Community College on May 7.
