A Special Event Fit for Event Professionals McLEAN, VA — The Greater Washington, DC chapter of the International Special Events Society [ISES DC] marked the 17th year for its prestigious Capital Awards Gala tonight at the breathtaking Gannett/USA TODAY Headquarters in McLean, VA. Established to recognize and honor the best of the metro DC special events industry, the Gala is produced with the support of generous sponsors and attended by ISES members and their guests. This celebratory event kicked off at the curb, where guests were greeted by valet before they walked the red carpet to the music of a Dixieland band. Inside the contemporary event site, guests enjoyed cocktails, a specialty drink, passed hors d’oeuvres and music by a jazz quartet while networking with colleagues prior to the awards being presented.. It was an occasion to celebrate the men and women, who do so much to make Washington, DC’s event business successful and to honor a new class of award winners. The highlight of the evening was an Awards Ceremony in which 64 award nominees competed for 18 awards. Top honors went to winners in categories such as table design, graphic design, lighting, videography, entertainment, and photography. Event planning categories included social, wedding, corporate and public events. Kelly Coronel, the Regional Vice President for ISES, traveled from the Hampton Roads chapter to attend the event and present the “Best ISES Team” award which demonstrates the outstanding team work ISES members can achieve when working together to produce an event. ISES DC President Kristin Wienold presented awards to chapter members who were named as Rising Star and Volunteer of the Year as well as for Chapter Leadership and the prestigious President’s Award. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed three sumptuous dinner buffets produced by Sodexo while enjoying dinner music in a club lounge setting. The dinner lounge featured fabulous furnishings, spectacular lighting, massive centerpieces and décor, as well as a variety of entertainment. It was an exciting and relaxed atmosphere for more than 250 guests. The annual celebration culminated with a dessert buffet and dancing at an After Party in the First Amendment Dining Room which was transformed into a club with creative décor, extraordinary lighting, and comfy lounge furniture. Guests departed the gala with a silver swag bag of goodies and memories of a truly special event!
