Step-by-Step Instructions
The first step in powder painting is to heat the object
you wish to paint The ideal temperature for applying
powder paint is 350° F which can be achieved by using
•
an oven, a propane torch or an electric paint-stripping
gun. If using an oven, hang your jigs for approximately
4 to 10 minutes, depending on size, and remove them
with a needle nose pliers for dipping. You may find that
you win have more consistent results using an oven for
jigs 1 oz. and larger in size. If using a propane torch,
rotate jig in the heart of the flame for about 4 seconds
for 1/8 oz. size and up to 10 seconds for 1/2 oz, size.
Actual time will vary based on intensity of heat source
and technique. Counting seconds as you rotate will help
you develop consistent heating.
After jig is heated, immediately swish through top of
fluffed powder paint, removing at once. Powder paint
covers extremely well, so only a thin coat is required,
Every extra fraction of a second spent in the powder
applies layers and layers of unnecessary paint, causing
dripping during the curing process. Think in terms of
dusting your lure, npj trying to dip or push your lure in
the powder. If paint smokes during dipping, your jig was
too hot. If paint looks like flour, the jig was slightly cool.
Ideally you want the paint to melt to a high gloss within a
few seconds after removing it from the powder. Once you
master this technique, you'll be amazed at how fast and
simple powder painting is.

The final step in the powder painting process is curing.
Curing involves hanging your painted lures in an oven
and baking them at an average temperature of 350° F
forapproximately 15 minutes, ideal curing time and
temperature varies by color. Refer to the specifications
on page 10 for best results. An uncured jig's finish is
about as strong as a laquer finish and can be used
"as is," but it will be susceptible to chipping. Curing
produces a chemical change in the make-up of the
powder itself, creating a rock hard finish that is
unaffected by soft plastics and can now accept our
vinyl paint for detailing.

Remember to dean out the eyes of your jigs before
curing and always hang your lures, as the heating
process will resoften the powder paint
