President’s Boot -
July 2011
Whew! Hard to believe that July is half over. Where is the summer going? Events
are lining up on top of each other and Aunt Millie from Iowa is calling saying that
she wants to come to the Cape for another visit, “What weekend is free?” Well
Aunt Millie, the answer is none! I am booked solid for the rest of the driving
season. It seems like we wait through the long winter and the never ending dreary
spring here on the Cape, and suddenly summer is here with all too many events
and obligations happening at once. It is hard to prioritize, to pick and choose the
events in which you really want to participate, and reluctantly, you have to forgo
some that you would really like to have attended, but you just can’t be in two places at once.
You know, the calendar on our new web site is really a great tool for helping one sort all this out. (You
knew this plug was coming didn’t you?) It is easy, just type in www.capecodbritishcarclub.org , click the
home page and scroll down to event listings. You can see a list or you can click to view the calendar page,
either way, when you want to learn more, just click on the event and all the details show up. There is even
a place to register right there, it is that easy. So no excuses, let’s start signing up and make each event a
success. Getting to know and spend time with your fellow members is one of the better things about this
club, great people and great cars equal great fun!
Speaking of fun, we had a great time following the last regular meeting with the ice cream run led by
members Les & Cynthia Frank. We had a wonderful summer evening’s drive to the Polar Cave and with
the club’s 50-50 take, bought ice cream for everyone! How sweet is that?.../…The Factory 5 tour, road
trip and backyard picnic, hosted by Charlie & Karen Bohm, was an informative, relaxing and very
enjoyable day spent with members and friends. …/…Although I didn’t attend (other priorities prevented),
the 4th of July “endurance” parade in Bourne was a test of LBC’s and heat. Bob Vogel reports that Lotus
and Jaguar prevails. …/…Kathy & Joe Rocha revived and redefined the VoS event by adding a charitable
cause to raise funds for the Plymouth and Fairhaven animal shelters. June and Mike Daley mapped out a
scenic road trip to enjoy the state’s southwestern coast line, a winery visit and to end at the Rocha’s home
for a back yard picnic. This event did take place under a sad note, as we learned that morning of the
passing of our club’s Vice President’s wife, Pat Frett, just the night before the event. They were planning
on enjoying the event with us that Saturday morning. Of course they were in our hearts and minds
throughout the day and some expressed thoughts that maybe next year it should become the Pat Frett
memorial run.
There are many more events for the rest of the season, so sign up and get involved and enjoy our club
activities and friendships.

FACTORY FIVE TOUR - Charlie Bohm
On June 25th about 10 LBC’s got together to do a little back road drive around Buzzards Bay, ending up at
Factory 5 Racing in Wareham for a tour of their manufacturing facilities. We then headed over to my
house for a cookout.
Things started a little dreary with mist and drizzle in the air as we gathered at the Trowbridge Tavern in
Bourne to start our run. We had a good mix of cars including Jaguars, Austin Healeys, MGs, Triumphs
and a Mini. By the time we headed out the weather started to clear.
Mike Daley led the run and we headed back over the bridge into Wareham, driving through Onset Beach,
cut up to Rt.6 and
headed into Marion. In
Marion we went down
Point Road, which took
us by some beautiful
homes and out to
Kittanset Golf course
and gave us some great
views of Buzzards Bay.
From there we headed
over to Great Hill drive
for some more great
views then hit some
back roads back
through Wareham over
to Factory Five.

The Factory Five
tour was fantastic
and our tour
guide, Dan, did a
great job
answering all of
our questions,
and we had a lot.
Most of you are
probably familiar
with Factory
Five’s Cobra
replicas but they
also do a Hot
Rod, Coupe and
Supercar. We
started off in the
showroom where
they had
displayed some
finished products
as well as some chassis only versions. We were then taken step-by-step through their facility and
explained each process in detail. They manufacture all of their bodies and frames on-site.
After the tour was over we
just had a short trip over to
my house for the cook out.
By now the sun was
shining full force and we
all enjoyed some food,
booze and each other’s
company after a great drive
and tour.

PAWS TO LOVE FUNDRAISER AND VALLEY OF SIN RUN 2011 - Kathy Rocha
Getting together with
friends and having a
good time is great.
When you combine these
things to raise money for
a great cause, it makes it
even nicer!
Joe and I are so very
pleased with the turn out
for the Valley of Sin run
and the Paws to Love
Fundraiser.
Together we raised four
hundred dollars in
monetary donations, gift
cards and t-shirt sales, as
well as so many
donations of supplies, old
towels, sheets, toys, treats, collars, leashes and food that were divided between the two.
Thank you to all who donated for the Chinese auction. That was a fabulous collection of items. The tshirt order will be in soon. We will contact each person to get you your shirt. Thank you again and God
willing this
will be an
annual
tradition.

FIRST ANNUAL MARION CLASSIC ANTIQUE AUTO SHOW - Charlie Bohm
On Saturday July 16th I headed over to the First Annual Marion Classic Antique Auto Show. Held at
beautiful Silvershell Beach in Marion. It is a great beachfront location. The show was put on by the
Marion Recreation Department with proceeds going to support various Marion Recreation Department
programs.
I had a nice short back road drive
from West Wareham and the
weather was excellent.
As I pulled in I was just a few
cars down from fellow CCBCC
member Bill Dunn with his 55
Jaguar XK140 and Gilbert
Roderick with his 62 Jaguar
XKE. I counted 50 Cars at the
show and 6 of them were from
the CCBCC. Along with Bill and
Gilbert were myself with my 67
Sprite, Roger Canto with his 76
MGB, Larry Oliveira with his 67
Austin Healey Mark II and Joe
Sabatino with his 60 MGA.
The show had a nice
mix of cars with our
LBC’s, Hot Rods,
classic 50’s, muscle
cars and some early
model cars. One
standout that I saw
was an original Mini
wagon/clubman that
had a customization
done by Mini VTech
Conversions. This
thing was crazy, it
extends the front end
with a customized
frame and suspension
so you can stick a 210
hp Honda engine from
an Acura Integra Type
R onto the front.

All-in-all it was a good
show and a strong first
effort. The show received
lots of foot traffic because
it was right at the beach.
Awards were giving for
participant votes and
public votes.
Our own Joe Sabatino
received a third place
trophy for the public vote.
Good job Joe. I plan on
attending next year and we
should try to get more
CCBCC members at the
show.

BOURNE ON THE FOURTH PARADE IN BUZZARDS BAY RESULTS – Bob Vogel
To celebrate the Fourth properly four CCBCC entrants showed up for this grueling endurance event. Fog
burned off by the start leaving dry road conditions. Marques represented included Jaguar, Triumph (2),
and Lotus. Familiarity with the course being an advantage, the Lotus driven by the author had the pole
position. Next were the two TRs, the first of which had a driver and navigator team, the second one was
solo. Being last to arrive at the pits Dave Mac and navigator Nancy in their beautifully waxed Jaguar
started about 35 seconds off the pace.
At the halfway point the third place solo driven but immaculate TR dropped out. The ranks closed. Dave
and Nancy were gaining. The remaining Triumph pulled up, it was neck and neck for the lead, but it was
too much, the TR was overheating and it dropped out in sight of the
finish line. Dave and Nancy closed in right behind me but the crowds
were pressing in on both sides so Dave couldn't pass. The Lotus just
holds on to win.
It’s a shame that the MG contingent did not show. Now Lotus and
Jaguar have the club bragging rights.
After the finish I made a sweep run to ensure that the Triumphs were
not stranded. Both of them had apparently moved on and hopefully
enjoyed a safe run home.
