Morocco Mountains, Waterfalls And Gorges Bringing together some of the best of the Moroccan outdoors, this exciting trip combines a number of the country’s natural highlights with the bustling contrast of one of its most stimulating cities, Marrakech. Starting with a breathtaking stay in the mountain village of Imlil, surrounded by the peaks of the High Atlas Mountains, you’ll have a chance to enjoy some walking in the foothills of the High Atlas, discovering a little something of the rugged terrain before moving on to the town of Demnate. Here, a little off the main tourist trail, you will be able to appreciate the spectacular Ouzoud Waterfalls and enjoy a cooling dip in one of the pools, before heading back over the Atlas Mountains towards the imposing Dades Gorge. A couple of days amongst these stunning southeastern landscapes affords a chance to view the impressive ‘Monkeys Fingers’ and explore the ruined kasbahs, palmeries and oases, before heading back to Marrakech for your last few days. With ample time to make the most of the ‘Red City’, you’ll have the chance to discover its hidden souks and alleyways and experience the unique charms and character of the city’s famous Djemma el Fna Square. Itinerary Day 1: Marrakech - Imlil Arriving at Marrakech Airport today, you'll meet at the airport and head towards the high peaks of the Atlas Mountains and the small village of Imlil, where your mules will be waiting to transport your bags on to your guest house. (D) Day 2: Imlil Lying some 1,740 metres above sea level, Imlil's rugged terrain has a beauty all of its own and makes an ideal base from which to explore this beautiful landscape on foot. With your own mountain guide on hand to introduce you to this region properly, a walk through the Berber villages and mountain trails will be arranged according to your ability and interests. (B,D) Day 3: Imlil - Demnate After a relaxing breakfast you will begin the four hour journey on to Demnate, lying at the foot of the High Atlas. The oldest city in the south, this is home to a predominantly Berber population and today provides a chance to visit the village and some of the famed red clay potteries, before checking in to your overnight accommodation. (B) Day 4: Demnate In the company of your guide, today you will visit one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country. The Cascades d'Ouzoud lie close to the village of Tanaghmeilt, set amongst a serene landscape of olive trees, lush orchards and green valleys and you can spend the rest of the day relaxing by the pools or discovering more of the area on a guided walk. (B) Day 5: Demnate - Dades Winding your way down towards the south of Morocco, today's drive take you past the natural bridge of Imi n'Ifri and across the Atlas Mountains towards the fertile valleys of the Dades River Valley. On arrival you will then have the rest of the afternoon at leisure, to relax and perhaps take a walk along the river, through some of the most scenic countryside in the south of Morocco. (B) Day 6: Dades - Skoura After breakfast this morning you will be collected from your accommodation and taken on to discover the magnificent setting of the Dades Gorge. Scattered with iconic ruined kasbahs, you will be able to spend some time walking through the gorge and taking in the famous orange Monkey Fingers formations, before heading to Skoura, where you will spend the night. (B) Day 7: Skoura - Marrakech A thirty minute drive from Skoura lies the city of Ouarzazate and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou. A stunning fortified city, or ksar, Ait Ben Haddou once lay along the old caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. You'll have ample time to enjoy some time exploring this historic old city, before continuing back across the mountains to Marrakech. (B) Day 8: Marrakech Morocco's famous 'Red City' is a feast for the senses. A rich cultural melting pot, it is one of the country's historic imperial cities and today provides an opportunity for a full day's sightseeing tour of many of its highlights. Take in the dazzling Djemaa El Fna Square, with its delightful collection of storytellers, snake charmers and market stalls. Visit the Saadian Tombs and the Bahia Palace and take a wander around the Ben Youssef Medersa and the beautiful Majorelle Gardens. (B) Day 9: Marrakech After a leisurely morning you'll transfer to Marrakech Menara Airport for the flight home.
