Do not usethissaw for sandingfloors, cuttingmetal,or any other purposenot describedin this instructionmanual. SAFEW FIRST! For safe operation, please take time to carefullyreadallthe instructionsand rules in this booklet. SAFETY GLASSES: Always wear safety glasses when usinga power tool. Also use face or dust mask if cutting operationis dusty. EAR PROTECTION:Wearear plugswhen usingthis saw. BLADE GUARD: The blade guard attachedto your saw is for your safetyand protection. lf it becomesdamaged,do not operateyoursaw untilit hasbeenrepaired.Alwaysleave bladeguardin operatingpositionwhen usingthe saw. DOUBLE-INSULATED:This tool is constructedwith two separatelayersof electricalinsulation.Atool builtwith this insulationsystemdoes not needto be grounded. DANGEROUSENVIRONMENTS:Keepwork areaclean; clutterinvitesaccidents. Do not use power tool on damp or wet floor.Be surethat thereis good lighting. ACCIDENTALSTARTING:To avoidaccidentalstarting,do not carrytool with fingerson switch. CORD ABUSE: Never carrytools by the cord or yank the cord to disconnectfrom an outlet. Keep cords away from heat, oil, and sharpedges. EXTENSIONCORD:To minimizepower loss and prevent overheating, use maximumof 25 feet long and 16 AWG. KEEP BLADESCLEANAND SHARP: Usinga dullblade will placea heavyloadon your saw and increasethe danger of kickback. For replacement, use only Crain#821 CarbideTippedBlade,#805 MasonryBladeor#822 DiamondBlade. Always move the saw from left to right only. r Do not force the saw; let the blade cut at highestRPM possible. r The saw stops automaticallywhen the switch is released. INSIDECORNERCUTTING: r Cut towards corner at 45" angle until the depth gauge meetsthe right wall (seefigure9). r Stop and unplugsaw. Removedepth gauge and continuethe cut (seefigure10). I Whenthe saw housingmeetsboth walls, push saw into the corneras shown(seefigure11). WARNING:Depthgaugecoversthe bladeand makesthe saw saferto use. Alwaysunplugsaw and re-installdepth gaugewhen you are done with insidecornercutting. Figure 9 Figure 10 Figure 11 DOOR CUTTING: seeFisure12 r Open the door to the maximum, away from the casements. Workfrom the insideof the door outward, away from the hinges. To avoid splinteringveneerdoors, it may be advisableto score the veneer surface at the desired height of the cut, prior to using the saw. An applicationof wide maskingtape in the cutting zone also helps reducesplintering, and will protectthe saw housingfrom scratchingthe veneer. r NOTE: The maximumthicknessof cut is 15/8",which is adequatefor most doors. Checkfor adequatedepth of cut beforestarting. Thickerdoors may requirecuts from both sides of the door. Take care not to leave a thin remnantof door on the opposite side, which can easilybreakoff and crack the veneer. Also, check that the floor is at the sameelevation on both sidesof the door,or additional. heightadjustment may be required. r T h e m a x i u m u mh e i g h t o f cut is one inch. To cut off higherthan one inch, place a flat sheet of plywood underneaththe saw. Figure 12 POCKETDObRCUTTING: r Takeprecautionsnecessaryfor veneerdoors and check door thicknessas describedabove (under"Door Cutting"). Pocket door cutting requirestwo people. One must hold the saw down and in a fixed postition, while the other personslowly pullsthe door into the blade. r Removeany unfinishedareaat the bottom of the pocket door with a hand saw, followingalong in the pre-establishedcut. Figure13 MASONRYSTONE,ORT|LEUNDERCUTTTNG r The No. 805 MasonryBladeis primarilyusedfor cutting brick. lt is not for usbon tileoi stone.'Usethe No. 822 DiamondBladefor cutting brick, tile or stone. r Masonrystone, andtile undercuttingcreatesa lot of dust. We stronglyrecommendthe operatorwear a dust mask and place a light cloth over the air intakeon the motor. Thiswill prolongthe lifeof the saw r DONOTusethissawforcuttingsteeloraluminum.Sparks can causefire in the wall behindthe door casing. Figure 14 MAINTENANGE: r lf saw is dropped, the bladeguard may be bent, restricting its full return.Sawdustthat accumulatesbehindthe bladeguardwillcauseit to becomeclogged.Checkoperationof the blade quard beforeeach use. Do not use saw if the bladeguart.does not operateproperly. When not in use, store saw in the custom carryingcase.
